Radacanu fires her coach

not necessarily...... i recalled the commentators were saying that Andrew is also keen to progress with his kid's progress and he will need to juggle between ER and his kid.... so this maybe be a sensible decision for both parties.
also, if ER is under the LTA "sponsorship", does this mean the LTA made this decision, instead of ER (and/or her parents)?

I will withhold judgment until I see who her next coach is.

The Richardson guy had been coaching her since Juniors and I think is admittedly not a year-round WTA Tour veteran, he's mainly a youth coach. So it may have been a mutual decision as well.

On the surface it doesn't look great, though.

Hasn't he proven that he can coach her to grand slam titles?
Yeah, but there are still much higher status coaches out there she can now have. She could hire Hogstedt or Groeneveld. They have far more experience than Richardson at training slam winners.

The coach only worked with her in the US swing, paid for by the LTA. She had a different coach on the same sort of arrangement at Wimbledon. The guy was there to basically support her through her efforts to qualify, maybe get through a couple of rounds. He was apparently chosen by Raducanu’s father because he had previously worked with her as a junior and was familiar, instead of sending a relative stranger to travel with his teenage daughter for a couple of months.

He didn’t just magically transform her game in a month or two. He was basically in the right place at the right time, lucky enough to be paired with someone who was hugely talented and just starting their career.

It seems she doesnt really have a ‘full time’ coach, and hasn’t really needed one up until the last few months, and probably couldn’t afford one until now.

This is a very good point - how are you btw?

Even Federer had fired his coach after winning Wimbledon in 03, right ???

So .... Why not ?

She is free to take the help of world class coaches....

Hmm I don't have an opinion. Not heartless but tricky times. Sometimes someone great on paper (Novak's case etc) doesn't work. She'll deal with so many changes.

I am not gonna be so fast with this, but the girl might end up losing focus.

The media, the fame. Freaking leeches. The same journos will be the first one writing essays about her losing herself to fame.

This is what is so disconcerting.
Nobody (including me) commenting here knows what it's like to play (let alone win) a major, let alone to do it at age 18, just a few months after completing her exams with honors.
She gets through qualies, and sweeps all 7 of her matches in straights.
Not only that, but she doesn't sound a false syllable along the way, dealing with mass media to the proportion she never had come close to facing. Has any athlete hit the world stage with so much grace, poise and intelligence...and at age 18? If so, I don't recall.

So, we get clowns here - clowns who can hardly form coherent or civil thoughts without any pressure, from the comfort of their homes or workplaces, misspelling her name, accusing her of being heartless and of getting a big head, with some already writing her cautionary tale.

Just incredible.

Andrew was hired only for the US trip because he's familiar with Raducanu's family and used to trained her when she was a child at Bromley Tennis Centre. We'll see who will be Raducanu's next coach, maybe Nigel Sears will be back?

Sometimes people do fire people who made them successful, it is no big deal.

I was really bad in Maths at age 4th-6th grade and then my parents hired a tution teacher when I was in 6th grade, he taught me math in 7th grade as well and my grades that were barely 45% (below 40 was fail) in the 6th grade soared to 75+ in 7th grade and by the 8th grade it touched 96%, I then fired him at the end of the 8th grade because I knew my concepts were too strong now, I could survive without him and later after 10th grade at junior college level I would need to take coaching for engineering entrance exams, so I would see what to do then .,.... but I knew the 9th and 10th grade I could manage without tuitions so did that and later would seek more professional help.....

I guess Emma is at that point where she needs a different coach who knows what it means to coach someone full tour, so a more professional help is needed, that is why she and her old coach might have come to a common level agreement that it is time to part ways.

"Raducanu is already unusually savvy for an 18-year-old in the way she researches opponents herself, while also interrogating various trusted contacts about how she can improve on a regular basis. She is not someone who shows up at a training session and waits to be told what to do. Rather, she is more likely to set her own goals, which is why a familiar face in her support staff could be exactly what she needs at this formative stage."

Her role models are Halep and Li Na, and Cahill and (as far as I know) Carlos Rodriguez have openings at the moment. Just sayin'.

"Obviously having such an experience with your team, it's tough to have that conversation with anyone," Raducanu said. "But I need someone who's had that professional tour experience.

"I think for me it's just really what I need. And especially right now because I'm so new to it, I really need someone to guide me who's already been through that."

"I feel like at this stage in my career, and playing the top players in the world, I realised I really need someone right now that has had that WTA Tour experience at the high levels, which means that I'm looking for someone who has been at that level and knows what it takes," she said.

Richardson, 47, first worked with Raducanu when she was a 10-year-old at the Bromley Tennis Centre.

Raducanu will now decide on what tournaments she will contest for the rest of a whirlwind season with the Indian Wells event a possible option.

"I'll decide in the next few days where I'm going to go to but wherever I play next I'm going to make sure I'm ready. I don't want to jump into things too early," she said.

Oh, those commentators! I find it hard to believe that a tennis coach of someone who's just won a GS would rather train some kids than his champion.

Well, seems that that does not include Naomi Osaka who fired her coach right after she won her second GS as a teen.

This is probably it. They must've both decided that she's now a full-fledged pro and moving on.

Absolutely the correct decision (and an expected one). Richardson was only ever a temporary coach.

And also, Raducanu has swapped coaches many many times since the age of 10. It works for her.

Whoever said Cahill, I had the same thought. Raducanu has a work ethic Cahill would surely run over hot coals to get to. That was always a cause of tension between him and Halep (granted she developed a better attitude in later years).
