Radek Štěpánek - Longevity Personified

Whilst being a well known Playboy Radek is also a talented tennis player, he's been in the top 70 (year end) since 2002 and his career stretches back since 1996/1997. His doubles career shows that he's been peaking now (2 Slams in two years) compared to when he was younger, although he did reach the US Open doubles final in 2002.

He won his first "Futures" tournament in 1998 beating the recently retired and now coach of Milos Raonic, Ivan Ljubicic. Then in the same year reached his first "Challenger" final beating George Bastl along the way (Is Bastl retired yet?) although he lost that one although he won his first Challenger in August of that year.

He's been around a bit from era to era, legend to legend but he always seems to find himself in the top 100, hefty paycheck and always dripping with machismo. How is this? Is "Serve and Volley" still effective? "All Round" games suited to all eras?

I know there's Federer who's always in the top 100 since at least 1999, Youzhny, Robredo ect but it's always great to see players "from my childhood" when I watched Wimbledon from like 2001 still here today doing well. Nostalgia rules!

Nadal has won at least one slam per year for (an all-time record) 9 years in a row (make that 10 years in a row on Sunday). Quality longevity personified.

Huh? What does that have to do with anything?? Please stay on topic.

I just don't think Stepanek personifies longevity. "Personifies" is a big word. I would think if you personify longevity you have to do something more than just hang around with mediocre results. If we're talking 35/36 year-old tennis players.....Agassi personified longevity.

If we really want the best example, I would take Connors over Agassi

Leander Paes beats Agassi as far longevity goes. Dude is still playing and winning slams.

Yes,,,but doubles,,,,,totally different than singles. if Paes played singles in the tour, what do you think his ranking would be now ? #1000 ?

Can Agassi win slams in doubles?

Longevity is longevity. Dont tell me now only singles count, S&V style does not count etc.

Oh come on. There are numerous doubles players in their 40s who are still ranked decently high. This obviously wouldn't happen in singles due to the more physical aspect of the game.

He looks like a tapeworm. Or the "Alien" creature that pops out of a crew members chest. And this guy gets girls?
