Radicals - Microgel vs YouTek

Hi all. Can anyone give some feedback on the radicals? I have never been a head user but since i demoed a MG radical MP last week i cannot get it of my mind. On the other hand when demoed a Flexpoint radical some years ago i was far from impressed.

Is the YouTek version similar to the MG?
Is there any reason for head to change technologies so often?
If i liked the MG so much should i start looking for them (already hard to find in Europe) or i will also be happy with the YouTek?

Finally, is the Pro version Tooooo demanding???? but also much better???

Thank you.

MG has been out as long as the Kfactor and 03 from Prince...a couple of years, so I don't think Head is changing any faster than anyone else. I think the d30 is for real. I'm switching to the Rad Pro from the APDC, and can tell a huge difference when I hit a touch shot vs. really swinging out. When re-directing heavy pace or swinging hard, the racquet stiffens up and turns into either an effective backboard or a cannon depending on how hard you swing. Rad Pro is heavier than MP, but the stability is unbelievable. Takes a few matches to get timing down, serve, volleys, etc...but man it feels good.

I have two microgels and a youtek. The major difference I feel is the 30 more points of SW in the youtek makes it much steadier against a hard hitter, giving it more plow. At first, I found it a bit slow playing doubles playing net, but that difference has lessened and the more solid hits are taking its place. I find that I am now playing almost exclusively with the youtek and in time will sell the microgels and get another youtek. The timing is different and the feel is different, but you can tell they are from the same company and line. While you can get the microgels for about $50.00 less, I would now rather pay more for the better play I get from the youtek.

youtek and microgel definitely are not identical. they're similar, but have some distinct differences. as for the pro version, i personally did not find it demanding at all. it really comes down to a matter of preference as the pro has a different string pattern and specs.

Given that both frames have the same specs, what explains the difference of the SW? Is it the 0.5 difference of the beam?

MG Rad Pro is a radically different from the MP.

I've alwas been an MP user but have demoed the Pro (suggest you do same) but in a nutshell the MP is a versatile racq all over the court, while the Pro has more heft and is more suited to the baseline.

The MG Rad MP is a fantastic control racq with a plush but light feel. It's amazing they can make it play that way given the low weight. It's the sort fo racq you can throw around and the ball always goes in. Cool that you "can't get it outta yr mind".

The YT Rad MP is diff again. I reckon you can feel that d3o. And it's stiffer overall. It's a bit unproven. Look up a review by Kal-El in this forum

Try for the cheaper MG Rad if you can. I stuck with LM Rad for years, hated the FXP, and then found the MG fantastic.

I thought the same thing actually. It must be the placement of the weight in the racquet i.e. how polarised vs unpolarised it is. Normally swingweight is a factor of length, balance and weight so I don't really see what else it could be. Would like to have a definite on that though if anyone knows.

I used to play with the MG Rad Pro - great racquet. To me the YouTek version had noticeably more flex to it. So much so that I really did not enjoy the frame much - just felt off.

I did switch sticks recently and went with the Babolat Pure Storm Tour GT - another great stick that is really worth a test drive.

Hey man, I play with the PSTGT as well, but am about to demo the youtek rad pro. What were your thoughts with them compared?

I bought the MG Radical MP last week. I was having fun hitting with it. I'm almost torn between it and my beloved Dunlop m-Fil 400.

Haven't tried the Youteks but I use the MG Radical MP and it is absolutely AMAZING on my one handed backhand, serve and volleys.

Quoted for truth. He nails all the high points of the YT Rad Pro; it's a great stick. The D3o really does seem to work and it's quite arm friendly as well. It does take a few sessions to get the timing right.

I'll admit that when I saw it come out this summer, I thought the specs looked pretty ^%$ed up but Head knew what they were doing and the weight and balance are really nice.

Tennis & Music -

I thought the YouTek was noticeable less stable than the PSTGT. It wasn't just the flex, but the overall effect. My ball feels very solid coming off my storm. Topspin was a little easier to generate on the YouTek, but otherwise I think that the Storm wins across the board. I definitely felt like I had more control with the storm.

That said I love my Storm and really did not care for the YouTek - so it may just be me.

FYI - I am a 4.5 all-courter.

I prefer the MG version. Don't know why but it feels better. Plus it is cheaper; even if you get a YT you can spring the cash for a MG as a back up.

The youtek radical pro is awesome. Is it heavier, and stiffer but i think the demanding part is all on the swinger. Because of the weight, it almost feels like if you keep a pretty loose grip, dont try to swing too hard, and time it correctly, its effortless. Now, it does take some time to get used to and learn how to do all those things but once you get it down, its awesome. The stiffness of the racket can be taxing at times if you get too stiff swinging it or try to hard, you really gotta let the racket do the work for you, but once you figure it out, you will be very pleased.
