Rafa fans: Chill and have some faith in your guy

To OP: Nadal himself will NEVER say he thinks he will definitely win something, or beat someone. He is always humble and saying he needs to play well against any opponent. He doesn't celebrate before time. And that is good.

Not sure what the issue is with some of these Rafa fans. Their guy served a bagel to a top 10 player in the QF. Boo-hoo if he’s dropped a set. Impossible to always have a super-clean slate.

The problem I think here is that Rafa has put this aura of invincibility around himself at the FO and we fans have also subjected ourselves to that aura. While I think it would be amazing for him to never lose at the FO again, but we have to be realists and understand that all it takes is one day not be on your game at age 35 and it'll come crashing down. I personally feel Rafa is still good enough to win this year, but I am having trouble convincing myself that he will do it next year.

Exactly. I think we've seen a lot of the best Nadal in this 2021 French Open, but he's not as consistently reliable with that anymore like he once was. Still, he's only lost 1 set at age 35. It wouldn't be surprising if, at some point, because of Nadal's age, he'll have a match one day like the Schwartzman one, where he won't have the late surge, where the tank will be empty. Long may that day be postponed.
