Rafa is not chasing records

No, but we can observe some of their actions and form an opinion based on that. Actions speak louder than words.

IMO all of the big 3 are obsessed with records/competing roughly equally. Novak is just more open about it.

They might be 3 unique and very different personalities otherwise but they share that trait IMO.
Which is why I prefer Novak’s approach. As he doesn’t hold back that it’s his desire. He is honest that it is his goal. The other 2 want it just as much but are more secretive about it.

Of course he says that now Djoker has obliterated the records. Thats about as rich as watching 40 year old Federer still on a tennis court trying to win. LOL "Oh im not chasing records". So hit the senior's tour dude. You can't even finish a match without legs/hips going
Not chasing records is not the same as not wanting to compete and win. Rafa clearly loves the latter. What he's saying is that records don't stay on his mind 24/7 and his life doesn't seem empty or dull when he's not winning.

Which records has Novak obliterated other than weeks at #1?
Most masters titles, won all the masters at least twice, won all slams at least twice, positive H2H over his biggest rivals, most big titles, most Australian opens. He’s at least 2nd best out of the big 3 for any of the 3 surfaces. He also has the most points in a season as no1 and has 7 year end no1’s. Had 3 years winning 3 slams and in 2015 won 3 slams, 6 masters and world tour finals which is arguably the best season ever in the men’s game history. Novak has won 4 slams in a row which is very hard to do and even Fedal haven’t done it. He’s done more than enough Lol

What a glorious list. Well said bro

It's a devastating list. It's not perfect, but who has one that can match it either. His numbers are becoming a joke now. If he pulls of the win here this week, we will be adding most WTF won to the list also.
That’s very true. No one has a perfect list but he is the closest to perfect as you can get. Yeah it will be tough to win this but the way he’s playing I wouldn’t put it past him to do it. If he has to beat Zverev and meddy in a row it will be hard but he’s in form like Paris masters so he’s very capable of doing it again.

The other group is still open as well with Sinner and meddy still to play. It should be a win for the Russian but sinner has nothing to lose and was impressive against hurkacz.

Yes, not sure he wins the WTF this week and equals Federer, but he is giving it a go. Think its a toss up here between him, Zed and Med, but bottom line is, he is still keeping himself in the conversation.

As for the list, you know I personally don't believe in GOAT stuff, but when someone wants to look down on what Novak has done, then I don't mind reminding them of what exactly he has done. And that list was just off the top of my head, he has a lot more other things. LOL

All the important ones basically that Fedal can't catch now. Weeks/Years #1, Double Career slam, Masters (Maybe Nadal can stll nab a clay masters though and tie it)
Djoker has one more M1000 than Rafa so how is that obliterating a fluid situation?

Has Novak obliterated these records that Rafa holds?:

Presumably these are his biggest achievements and you can only count the ones where he stands alone. Apart from his weeks at #1 there is nothing to write home about. Finals and SFs are not worth talking about. They are only ther to pad out a meagre list of achievements.

I didn't say he wouldn't have broken the record. Just that his streak as it is would be in danger now under normal circumstances, barely being 10th in the 2021 race while comfortably 6th in the rankings.

Surprised that a bot can misread to this extent.
Hi bot! I wonder who would have threatened this record (with or without the covid rankings):

Consecutive weeks:
#
Cons. top 10
850Rafael Nadal▲
788Jimmy Connors
734Roger Federer
619Ivan Lendl
565Pete Sampras

Nobody, and I never said the record was threatened by someone else. Never even brought up a record. It's about the active streak itself and how much safer it is in this moment to be extended further with the still present effects of covid rankings.

Rafa has said he wants a good work/life balance. He says he is not bothered about chasing records like worrying about who has a better phone or a bigger house. He says, when he wakes up in the morning it makes no difference whether he is #1 in the world or not so he plays when he wants to to because he has to. That way, he enjoys it more when he is on tour.
Rafa is not chasing records, he just conveniently has 13 RG titles and 20 grand slams. Yeah I don't believe that for 1 second.

What about his desire to end with 25 slams? Was it a lie all along? Have we, the readers, been cheated?
You have been deceived by misleading interpretations.

Rafa said, “I can’t go crazy thinking about 20th grand slam. I just try to keep my way. I just try to keep enjoying tennis. Of course, I would love to finish my career with 25, if it’s possible. But the thing is… Let’s see… Let’s see… I hope to keep producing myself the opportunity in the next couple of years.” [Source: an interview with BBC in Sept.2020]

I don't mean to personally attack Rafa and his family choices are not my concern. But c'mon, Fed and Novak have kids, Rafa is like 36, why is he delaying that ? Is he still playing for the love of the game or for the love of records?

All the 3 members of the Big 3 are obsessed with records, that's for sure.

One good thing about Rafa is that he never breaks racquets (has a policy regarding that), is supremely gritty on court, kids can learn from that.....a better role model than the other 2 maybe.

Rafa and Sampras were 2 down to earth heroes despite being the best athletes in their respective eras....

The point I was making was that Djoker hasn't obliterated the records as the poster below is claiming that's why I listed Nadal's records on which he stands alone. It's always useful to do a trail of the comments before jumping in. That is why I always make a point of quoting what I'm responding to to avoid people going off on a tangent.

Novak at Olympic is equally good as Rafa at ATP Finals. :-D

Except olympics is one opportunity every four years, while ATP is yearly event as long as you are good enough to qualify for it! Nadal had like 16 attempts, Novak - only 4 so...
...And for what it's worth Djokovic still has that bronze medal, which is still something! Meanwhile Nadal has big fat nothing at ATP finals, unless you count runnewr-up plates as "something" LOL

Why does he have to? Djokovic has far superior achievements & accomplishments thus far in their respective careers, which is only denied by blind fanatics like you, that can't accept it.

I think Djoker fans should follow the conversation and not just jump in with irrelevant comments. Sampras-Bruguera 1993 claimed that Djokovic has obliterated the records so I want to know which of Rafa's 'stand alone' records Djokovic has oblitererated. Let me highlight the comment I was responding to.

Of course he says that now Djoker has obliterated the records.

No he's not. You can keep repeating such if it somehow makes you feel better. Shows you are actually insecure.

Nadal has displayed the deepest dominance ever on one tennis surface that will probably never be matched!

He also had it the hardest among the CoGoats as he was sandwiched in between Federer and Djokovic while Federer had a relatively free ride pre 08 and Djokovic had one post 2015 or so.

Honestly you’ve got to be high if you’re picking Nadal over Djoker in the GOAT race now. Nadal is decrepit at 36 while this dude comes back after a two month break and is cooking NextGen like he never left.

Nadal: “I always say the same, that I would love to finish my career being the player with more Grand Slams,” said Nadal.

“But on the other hand I say, ‘OK, I have to do my way’. I did my way during all my career. Worked well. I’m not going to be thinking all the time Novak has this one, Roger is winning the other one. You can’t be always unhappy because your neighbour has a bigger house than you or a bigger boat or has a better phone."
This only seems hard for people to believe because he’s a top athlete. But isn’t this pretty much what any well-adjusted adult would say about life?

there is no GOAT race. When you look at the various age adjusted milestones, these guys did not do enough to separate themselves from each other. Hanging around longer and picking up a few more titles doesn’t change that. To make a GOAT claim you have to put distance between yourself and everyone else. Like Nadal on Clay, Gretzky in hockey, Karelin, etc
