Rafa needs to get back to Uncle Toni

i believe moya is failing him to inspire against djoko and fed.......that failure has now transcended against players who he used to deal with comfortably in the past.......he barely got past meddy at the us open.......he has been dismal against big guns at aus open and wimbly last year........i am attributing a chunk of his failures to moya's passive coaching/counseling skills........so rafa needs to fall back to his uncle who'll never refuse him........

Why? Nadal owns 2 Majors currently.

This Australian Open had a GreenSet surface which is Nadals worse surface and he still made Quarters and ran Thiem close.

Seems a good coaching team to me

May be Rafa, Toni and Moya combinedly can work on his Dtl Fh, passing banana fh and more.... Nothing wrong in giving a try. When Rafa was in trouble in Fo 18, Toni had an half an hour session or so with him if am not wrong.

Nadal needs a world famous coach. Not Toni or Moya.

Look at what Djokovic did. He bought Goran and his serve is lethal. Best ever he has served. He had Becker before as well.

What has Nadal done? His Serve, ROS are as bad as ever. He needs a coach who has been a champion before and understands offense.

All other players, Djokovic especially, are improving and Nadal is left behind. Of course Rafa should have done this a long time ago, now it's too little and too late. He could have been far more successful..

Moya and Goran have one slam each.
And Rafa only seems to like to talk in Spanish with coaches.

Moya seems a perfect match as Nadal's coach.

He is not going to do as well as Uncle Toni did because the player is more than a decade older, but what he is doing seems excellent.

Spanish players don't like to go for foreign coaches... They like sticking to their homies, Its been the case with vast majority of the Spanish tennis players

True. But that is Rafa's problem about just restricting himself to Spanish coaches.
Djokovic also had Becker, lendl etc. Goran was just bought for serve. Look at how good Djoker serve is now.

Problem is Rafa is an ATG with the weakest serve. Every other ATG ever had better serve than Nadal. That and the ROS is a reason why Nadal did not win more slams outside of clay. He could already have been ahead of Federer.

Toni was hurt that Ralph chose his idol over his own blood. I don't blame Toni. There are times Rafa needs guidance from the box and Moya just sitting there with his hands interlaced leaning on the rail. At least Toni gave rafa guidance when he needed it.

I think Nadal ruining lives at the French Open comes to an end this year, and it'll be because of the two players battling tonight.
Well we definitely do have a new generation of players who will eventually be taking all of the Grand Slams. Tennis really is a young man's game. The big 3 are more of an anomaly at this stage but they will be replaced. Just a matter of when. Could be this year. Could even be this coming Sunday. Looking forward to seeing it happen.

His Spanish inquisition's chief weapons of fear and the top spin are crumbling around him. He's gotta get back that latino-juicer-doing-curls-in-the-squat-rack vibe. He needs to start intimidating the tour again because at the moment he is a parody of himself.

He could start by actually doing a few more curls in the squat rack to sure up the buggy whip because he is getting out-muscled by Thiem. Then start outputting a few more Bamoses and put a bit of Hewitt crazy-eyes-taxi-driver into them, and really give them plenty of volume on DFs and UEs etc.

Easier said than done!!!! In his 15,16 years career he has done it 4 times.

But two of those have come in the past 3 years.

I think he has at least one more "Rafa Double" in him (USO and RG), as well as 3-4 more solo RGs.

And that's to say nothing of being able to get a nice draw at Wimbledon or AO and win that too, which could easily happen.

I would be more than satisfied with that one double if it happens.:):):)

OP is clearly referring to Rafa’s tough draw at AO20 as compared to his normal “Uncle Toni draws”.

I heard a rumor that Toni is now coaching Federer

No. Toni's style ruined Nadal and lead him to 2015-2016 years. After co-operating with Moya and changed playing style accordingly, Nadal had 2017-2019 years will full of success.

Toni didn't remain anything to train Nadal anymore.

Now Nadal Losses: Rafa needs his uncle back, sure strategy, young-former number 1 Grand Slam Champion and now experienced coahc can't inspire him ....

Wow, Uncle Tony was Nadal coach in 2017 ...
I guess Ljubici got Federer 2016 and Vajda got Djokovic 2017 ...

rafa at this point of career does not need changes to his game, that would be detrimental to his already limited chances of success at majors going forward.......he needs mental help, an assurance and a guarantee that there is always somebody behind him to support him in times of troubles.......his battle is mental, and no better than uncle toni to the rescue........never once did he look convincing to me at this aus open.......it felt like he was thinking about djokovic even when he is playing others.......

yes, they have ruined roland garros by adding a roof.......i do not want to see rafa losing to indoor clay bums at a slam which he owned like nobody ever owned anything in the history of tennis.......he should retire undefeated at roland garros as a tribute to himself at the clay slam.......

He just needs to win 2 more Majors, albeit is very difficult considering his age, it is still possible to achieve for the Spaniard.
The bad thing is that every time the most anxious version of Nadal becomes recurrent, which has made him lose matches (and in some cases titles of GS) perfectly winnable: AO 2017, Wimbledon 2017, AO 2018, Wimbledon 2018, Wimbledon 2019 and the recent match against Thiem.
He could perfectly be playing the semifinals against Zverev.
He will have to improve his mental part a lot if he wants to reach the long-awaited record longed for by many.

I think of the Big 3, he has the greatest untapped potential.

By 25 he should have switched from a game based on attrition to a more attacking one where he could mix net play and end points quickly.

Rafa could have been an incredible net player.

He's now 34 and acts on the courts as if he's going to physically outlast 20 year olds each passing rd.

Too bad he went for the money and the RG titles exclusively.

As others said, his tendency to only consider Spanish coaches has hurt him tremendously.

Nadal should hire Tomic. He needs to relax. Enjoy those hundreds of millions. Tomic is here to teach.

Rafa not only sticks to Spanish, but rather to Mallorcan, when it comes to his team. Is there anyone not from Mallorca there?.

In any case, is quite hard to argue Rafa would have been "much more successful" had he done anything different.
