Djokovic will also get 102 weeks at #1 (the same number as Nadal) before Nadal gets it, when he gains points during the China Open. So as soon as Djokovic catches Nadal, Nadal pulls away again.
Looking at the points Nadal is defending in 2014 he is going to lose it next year anyway so why bother?
Nadal has been destined to be no 2 his entire life, first behind Federer and since 2011 behind Djokovic, a few transitional months when Fed was in decline and Djokovic reaching his peak won't change that.
Yeah he has to defend his Doha, AO, Miami, Halle & WIM points. What's that 10pts out of a possible 5500?
LOL at Doha and Halle. LIKE HE HAS 10.000 POINTS TO GAIN THERE, LOL.
1) He's not defending like 1500 points he gained at the SA Challenger circiut, unless he gets "injured" again and starts off in the Futures circuit.
2) He could gain another 20 points at Wimbledon if he reaches the 2nd round before losing in straight sets (including a bagel) to Somdev Devvarman.
3) Looking at the reduced schedule he's probably gonna miss one of the Masters again, why not Miami again?
So we're left with AO and that's the only tournament where he can gain points. Other than that, he's defending 1000-2000 points everywhere. Good luck with that.
Djokovic on the other hand has done great in Slams but very mediocre in the Masters, he can easily gain points in IW, Miami, Rome, Madrid, Canada and Cincinnati. I'm actually surprised he hasn't made a single final in the Masters other than (ironically) Monte Carlo.

Whatever you say princess.
Nadal transitional champ for Djokovic, you're a clown. More than twice as many slams who gives a rats arse whether Djokovic has held the no.1 more.

You could say that about any number 1. They always have the most points to defend, and, thus, the most to lose.
Except in Nadal's case he has no points at two freaking majors! So there's a lot to make up there even if he scales back a bit at the Masters events.
I know you're incapable of writing more than 5 sentences in 1 post so go for cheap shots, bro.
Besides - Nadal also had points to gain at Wimbledon this year and what happened?

Can't believe it's been two years. Doesn't seem like it was so long ago.
Tennis Pro is a worthless poster. I put him in my garbage can/ignore list ages ago.
Good idea. I think I will do the same. Another buttheart Federer and Djokovic **** of the worst kind.
If Rafa is to regain the World No.1 rank, it would be after more than 2 years now. Plus he's only 120 points behind Djokovic. Will he be able to achieve the feat?
Tennis Pro is a worthless poster.
But he's a pro.
I gotta ask:
What is the longest gap/break for somebody to regain the #1 spot? And who is this player?
If Rafa does take the #1 back by year end, I hope Djoker is right behind him. That would make AO extremely interesting as the winner (assuming that's a two men race) will take the #1 spot and the first major.
Not really.
Even if Nadal lost in the 1st round at the AO, he would gain points relative to Novak.
basically if novak doesnt defend the AO, he wont have a shot at the no 1 rank for a VERY long time

Just to let everyone know, the only reason Nadal is no no 1 right now is that his Vina del mar points don't count. Over the last 52 weeks he HAS earned more points than Djoker.
Once Bejing ends, Nadal will be no 1 so long as he plays the tourney
Yep, I read Rafa mention it in a Marca interview. Seems very unfair, he should be n° 1 right now.
Agreed. But thankfully, Nadal can go on a shopping spree, gaining points at (potentially) China Open, Shanghai, Basel, Paris, WTF, Doha, Australian Open, and Miami. And if Nadal goes deep in Wimbledon 2014, it'll make up for any points he may not defend in the first half of 2014 (he may not play Acapulco/Brasil Open/Vina del Mar next year). Then Nadal will really have a stranglehold on the #1 ranking. I can easily see 200+ weeks at #1 as an achievable goal for Nadal, possibly 300+.
