Rafa thanking Novak in Serbian for his contribution

They're not friends. Nadal and Fed are also not "friends." Neither are Fed and Stanimal. If Nadal and Djokovic were friends, why didn't either one attend each other's weddings? They never see each other off court for anything unless it's planning for an exo or some mutual endorsement, let's keep this real.
They may not be close friends but they are certainly friendly and are probably casually friends. Especially Fed and Stan and Djokovic and Murray. These guys understand and relate to eachother in a way few do. That's why you see so many old rivals happy around each other like Borg and Mac and Martine and Chrissy.

Yeah, it's mostly just a business relationship. And looks good for PR.

I think the only way the big 3 would ever become friends is if some incredible young player came along and started cleaning the deck with all 3 of them routinely across all the Slams. :-D

Then again, Fed and Rafa never become close friends when an incredible young Serbian player started cleaning their decks at the Slams. ;)

Not close friends but they did become a bit closer when another force became a big thorn in their sides in Djokovic.
It seems though with age, Federer and Nadal are a lot more chummy than they were a decade back.

Little does Rafa know, the Serbian is word for ‘contribution’ is a euphemism for ‘racial cleansing’.

I think Borg and Mac are genuine friends (and they were both friends with Vitas Gerulaitis also).

In earlier eras, I think the great Aussies like Laver/Rosewall/Newcombe/Roche etc were also friends, as they travelled the world together.

Today's top stars, not so much.

Being friendly after retirement is a whole different thing though. Martina & Chrissy were friends and then had to stop hanging out with each other once they became 1-2 in the world and were playing each other constantly. Then they reconnected later in life.

Novak looks like he's 3 inches taller in that photo...that trivial observation aside: I do think that there is, at minimum, a lot of mutual respect between them. When they all retire, it would be nice to see each of The Big 3 become closer. I mean, how many players and people in general have experienced what they have.

People are actually just trying their hardest to be mean and rude lol for no apparent reason. Not sure my mental state can take this, gonna try and stay away from this place as much as possible.

What the heck did you just hecking say about me, you little TTWER?? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class at 90's Clay University, and I've been involved in numerous secret threads on TTW, and I have over 43k confirmed likes. I am trained in epic memes and I'm the top poaster in the entire TTW armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the heck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this forum, mark my heckin words. You think you can get away with saying that crap to me over the Internet? Think again, TTWER. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of Federer fans across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your TTW account. You're heckin dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can delete your account in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my 2003 Dell PC. Not only am I extensively trained in running forums, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Forum Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable account off the face of the continent, you little TTWER. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your heckin tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you TTWER. I will inundate you with weak era threads and geometric means and you will drown in it. You're heckin dead, kiddo.

This is true, but I think it has more to do with the nature of their tennis rivalries than with their lack of mutual admiration. I bet the ones who are friendly with each other now will spend more time with one another once they've retired. Even players who aren't ostensibly very friendly e.g., Roger and Novak, might grow closer post playing career.

Two legends, huge respect between them. Rivals on court and friends off it. Nice to see in these tough times.

That’s a true class act
These two have become closer and closer throughout the years.

And don’t mind all the jealous haters @Tenacity. You can’t really win in this forum being a Novak fan. If that tweet was from Nole, the Fed fans here would say “Novak only trying to be popular” (it’s what they always say every time Novak opens his mouth or do something). They never acknowledge him for anything. They are a little bit better w Rafa, but most no. And for them seeing Novak and Rafa being friends and probably taking Feds records is just too much to handle. That’s why they turn nasty like this. It’s been like this long time. It’s just a sign Rafole doing well.

There's a vast difference between "close friends" and "casual friends." I rest my case.

Friends attend one another's weddings, christenings of their children, etc. I will guarantee you that Rafa couldn't name the names of Djokovic's two children or Fed's four children (he might know Leo and Lenny since that's alliterative and memorable). And Fed would have no clue what Stefan or Tara's names are.

None of them are friends, it's utterly preposterous. Why people want this to be the case is an eternal mystery.

Still, they have a "friendly" relationship.
And it works very well for them.
The interpretation that each one gives to that should not matter much.

Maybe they are becoming closer and closer?
Look likes that to me. They are also same age.
While being active players it’s not normal to be super close.

Rafa started a campaign to fight coronavirus and Novak donated. At least I think based on the tweet I just read.
Rafa and his friend Pao Gasol (a basketball player who is genuinely a good friend of Rafa's, not just a sports colleague) are working to raise eleven million euros with help from other athletes for the Red Cross to help coronavirus victims.

Just because I have to say something stupid today. I even think they (Nadal and Fed) are secret lovers.

Welp, there it is. BeatlesFan has said Rafa and Novak “are not friends”, so that must mean they are not friends. Apparently BeatlesFan is the authority on Rafa and Novak’s relationship, and anyone who has a different opinion is just plain wrong. Oh and Stanimal and Fed “are not friends” either. Glad we could clear that up....it’s so great to have someone here on this forum that can give the unadulterated “truth” on the personal relationships of top tennis pros *sarcasm*

Isn't cleaning a deck negative thing, so Djokovic is a housemaid on their ship?
