Rafa was 3rd favorite anyway...

I see some talk about an potential asterisk added to this year's edition of RG because of Rafa's self imposed absence...

Well, even if he played, he very likely would have lost anyway...his form coming in was not so good...he is something like 1-9 in past 10 matches. He was 3rd favorite by bookies for a reason.

This is nothing like the AO absence of Djokovic last year where he was not allowed to compete despite having an exemption permission while being fully fit and in top form...

You can’t say his form wasn’t good when he hasn’t been healthy for a year now. Had his body not broken down he’d be the favorite like he is pretty much every time he plays RG.

Well, if he had been back right now for RG he wasn't going to win, but if he had a regular year he'd still be the favorite.

It's still a huge absence given he won it 14 times and doesn't miss it since 2004. Even if he wasn't winning this year.

Well you could say the same about the absence of Djokovic at the USO, it's not like he was going to win, he's never been that good at the USO, even the clay beast Nadal is ahead of him. Seriously calls into his question his alleged status as a HC GOAT.
I think is pretty close between him and Fed in the Open Era. Fed 21-4 BO5 Finals, 71 HC titles, 6 YEC titles, 24 indoor, 783 Matches won, 5 HC doubles titles. If one puts Nole ahead it's not by much. There is a major difference in Deco Turf success and outside of it. Plus, players as Lendl and Connors never had a shot in playing 2 HC slams a year until 1988 when the AO changed from Grass to HC.

Winning AO+USO 13 times not enough for you?

Had Nadal withdrew last year, we would be hearing how Djokovic would have owned him in the 1/4 finals anyway. (which everyone believed was going to happen anyway)

LOL

Winning 3 USO = Never been that good at USO.

I guess Agassi really sucked at USO then and Lendl was a joke too...

People have been so numbed by the insane streaks we have seen at AO, RG, and W that many have forgotten that anything that was three and more before the big 3, was considered very good. I mean McEnroe and Becker have 3 W, using this level of deciding what was considered good, anything less than a Borg career sucked.

Why are nolefams creating this thread today. Nole will play his first match on PC. Only Nole among big 3 is still active, let's enjoy his match.
Rafa is not fit. Hope he comes back.

When a clay court specialist is ahead of you at a HC slam you ain't that good, relatively speaking of course.

The guy has won 14 titles there. Given how bad the field has been this year if he was physically able to play he’d be the favorite.
Field isn't very bad. Both Novak and Raz will be favored vs him even if he was able to play. There is something called respect and something overrespect.
Nolefams no need to overrespect Rafa.

Imagine thinking Alcaraz can win Roland Garros :-D he could barely survive old man Cilic, Sinner and Tiafoe at the US Open :-D and RG clay is the worst surface for him.

If those 2 are the heavy favorites then yes the field is bad. Joker hasn’t made a single SF in all 3 CC events he’s played this season. And Tiny Carl has been very up and down. He won Barca and Madrid, but he’s also struggled with injury (losing to Norrie in Rio and the missing MC) and had a bad loss in Rome. Your guy even admitted he was glad that RAFA isn’t there to stop them.
