"Hello everyone.

It's been a while since I communicated directly with you. It has been a difficult few weeks and months.

As you know I suffered a major injury in Australia, at the Psoas. Initially it had to be a six to eight week recovery period and we are now on fourteen. The reality is that the situation is not what we would have expected. All medical indications have been followed, but somehow the evolution has not been what they initially told us and we find ourselves in a difficult situation. The weeks are passing and I had the illusion of being able to play in tournaments that are the most important in my career such as Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros and for the moment I have missed Monte Carlo and Barcelona. I will not be able to be in Madrid unfortunately.

The injury still hasn't healed and I can't work out what I need to to compete. I was training, but now a few days ago we decided to change course a bit, do another treatment and see if things improve to try to get to what comes next. I can't give deadlines because if I knew I would tell you but I don't know. This is how things are now.

I also want to send a special greeting to all the Madrid and Spanish public because I will have missed the two tournaments that are played here at home. You all know what it means for me to play these tournaments and in this case in Madrid that I will not be able to play it with everything it has given me.

I have no choice but to try to have the right attitude throughout this time, try to give myself the opportunity to compete in one of the tournaments that remains of the clay season and I have no choice but to work and be with the right mentality.

A very strong hug to all and as soon as I have news, I will inform you. Thank you!"

Sad news he may announce his retirement at RG 23 in the presser. Looks like his body has decided he can’t go on.

Having had virtually the same injury (iliopsoas grade 2 tear, though presumably not in the exact same spot) in the past I always felt 6-8 weeks was an ambitious recovery time.

Granted I was a good bit older than Rafa when it happened, and don't have access to the kind of diagnosis and treatment facilities he has, but it was at least 8 weeks before I could stand up out of a chair without pain, let alone walk without pain, let alone think I had any hope in hell of playing tennis.

Hey loser,
If you have bet your house on Nadal who got frequently injured throughout his career and not on Djokovic who faced less injuries then , accept it and move on.

Be proud of your Guy rather than wishing Injuries and D€ath for Djokovic .

It is not Djokovic's fault if you choose Nadal as favourite .

Have some self respect and shame and focus on Nadal rather than his rival Djokovic.
Lets others enjoy tennis discussion on this forum , Loser .
Loser is someone who is living through achivement of his favourite sportsperson and you fit the bill with cringe post like this lol.

Nadal is like that beast who is conserving his energy for the big day .... He is skipping clay tourneys because he is gathering strength for the big tournament RG 2023.

He will be very hard to beat, don't take him skipping tournaments as a cause to rejoice

I am sure his rivals know it, nobody is taking anything for granted.

Not good news for tennis.

If Rafa decides to come back in Rome, he is going to have to do pretty well to make up the points, because he is losing more points from his quarter final in Madrid last year. He is now almost certain to be outside the top 8, meaning he's got quite the path waiting in RG.

Right, he wants to fall as far in the rankings as possible, in order to make it more challenging for himself. Do you even realize how ridiculous this sounds?

The "clay has healing powers" now turned into "clay slam has healing powers", even if this slam is now a tournament with terrible conditions.

Rankings and Draws don't matter, he is Superman on clay. Superman doesn't worry about having to beat justic league members back to back.... same for Nadal... if he is good enough to beat ALcaraz then he will beat Novak and Ruud too .... No need to worry, a 15th french open is possibly on the way. If not then it will need a superhuman effort to beat him which seems unlikely.

"Nadal is never injured during clay season" "clay has healing powers for Nadal". Where are the haters that say that?

The dude is 36, The last few times he's played he's been soundly beaten by many players, some of which wouldn't touch him on even an average day. He's basically all but retired, not even clay which is arguably the easiest surface to play on can help him now. All that said, the joke still holds true and was true for basically all of his career.

Damn, he’s fvcked. Sounds like he got poor advice at the start too. Big test of his love of the sport and resilience now

I can empathize with him. Must be hard to skip your countries tournaments.

I don't want him to ever win rg but he should have dignity to go on his own choice. Hope those two things are not mutually exclusive.

Damn, this is bad news
Has there ever been a clay season when Rafa only played RG and nothing else?

Really hope it comes together in time - if we don't see him even at RG, then I think the time is finally coming

Time is coming for everyone. Only question is has the time arrived to retire today.

In 2020 he played Rome and then RG only, that is the closest he got to not playing a non RG clay tournament in the year.

Oh, so you are one of these Djokovic fans who just try to hype his non existent competition at all cost? You may deny it as much as you want, but in 2015 Djokovic just had to show up in order to beat him. No superhuman effort at all.

But I think it's the first time he skips so many clay tournaments before RG. And Rome participation is still in doubt. He doesn't need a lot of match play to perform well unlike Djoker, but he tends to struggle a lot when he's low on confidence.

It's not the first time. 2020 he skipped also.
