Rafael Nadal has been praised as the saviour of what was a 'boring opening ceremony' for Paris 2024 after his surprise appearance towards the end.

Nadal is in Paris for what will be his final Olympic Games before retiring from the sport.

Nadal was greeted to huge cheers on stage as he took the torch away from France football icon Zinedine Zidane.

And many felt Nadal's appearance was enough to salvage what they felt was otherwise a disappointing showcase.

Nadal won 14 titles in this city, it's one of the greatest achievements in sports. He totally deserved to be honored.
But Boring? Have a little respect for the hundreeds of millions of people who enjoyed it! Most feedbacks I've read regarding the ceremony are widely positive. Records of viewership and attendance. Plenty of innovations and world renowned celebrities. I've listened to comments on 4 different channels, they all loved it. The rain spoilt it a little bit in the end but it was still a huge success, whether one likes it or not. When 1.5 billion people watch a show, there will always be some detractors. I'm sure it was the same in Rio, London and every other ceremonies. We can't all agree, that's fine. But please be respectful. Just because a bunch of articles found it boring doesn't mean it needed "saving".

Yeah, to have the Olympics flame aloft Paris was an achievement itself. LA organizers cannot do anything to equal it.

I was happy for Rafa but enjoyed most of the ceremony. The highlight for me though, was CELINE DION, who was magnificent vocally and dramatically, singing a great Edith Piaf Song in French.
Yes. It was nice seeing Nadal there but he was hardly the highlight. What is this GB News?

King of clay* overall. King of Parisian clay, King of Rome clay, King of Madrid clay, King of Barcelona clay and of every important clay tournament.
That is indeed true, but considering this is a Parisian event after all, it is really fitting. I think if one foreign athlete should be honored in such a moment, it's Nadal. But not for what he has done in Rome, Madrid, or Barcelona. :-D

I hear you. I do think this the rain spoilt it a good bit - of course nothing can be done there…Everything just looks a bit/warmer/nicer when sun is out. Example : I love watching Indian Wells tournament - I feel like I'm on holidays watching it :)

I'm sorry, but those who say it was BORING, are the ones who fell asleep during the show, and missed the excitement!!
What about when the floor of the bridge partially collapsed, the huge lady fell into the river, was swept out to sea,
rescued by a rubber raft of immigrants heading to England, and became a star in the London nightclubs? Granted,
that's a lot do do in one night, but we ARE talking about Olympians!! And what about Djokovic, who was going to
make a surprise entrance, but fell through a weak 500 year old manhole cover on the street? It's reported that he
fell into the dreaded catacombs (tunnels of underground graveyards directly under Paris) and hasn't come out yet!!!

As someone obsessed with vocals, I was pleasantly surprised at How great she sounded last night. She sounded like she never left. But then again she’s had vocal rest for almost 4 years without touring.

If nadal / Az wins OGM in doubles, will it be counted 2 medals or one for spain

Edit
According to Meta AI
One medal bcz team medals are counted as one
