I don't think either Nadal or Djokovic are happy about being in the same quarter.

federer is and if federer wins this, novak won't be able to stop thinking about roland garros and the next slams, should get interesting,

In all seriousness, some of what he says surprises me a bit. Like saying that if Rafa had played all of the autumn swing he'd maybe be “If not in the top four, maybe one or two in the world. Who knows?". Really? #1, ahead of Novak at this point? Nah ;-)

Can't say he doesn't show love for Rafa though.

Veroniquem coming in with all of her moronic theories in 3, 2, 1 ...

go get him Vero!!!

Yes, I'm eagerly awaiting the newest conspiracy. Unsure whether laughing or crying is the appropriate response...

I know right? Was he drunk on Moët when he gave that interview? That makes no sense whatsoever and I even think it's literally impossible for Nadal to be ranked 2nd or higher, even if he had played the US HC swing.

Seriously, I think Federer should stop running his mouth about Nadal and Djokovic (mainly kissing Rafa's behind) and focus on his own declining play. I hope he realizes that he's got a good chance to get to the final here, but he's acting as if he's already retired. Acting like an ex-sportsman, commentating on the current state of tennis all the time. Does he know he is still #2 at the moment!?

Haha good post, merwy. I think Roger just likes Nadal more and perhaps isn't a big fan of Novak who currently is the undisputed world #1. No wonder some Novak fans accuse him of hating Novak.
When Roger gives interviews these days he tries to be humble and focuses more on other players like a tennis expert discussing players and the sport for fans worldwide.

Djokovic should not be unhappy of meeting Nadal early because if he is winning the FO he wants to include Nadal in the 7 players he beats. Meeting Nadal early is a huge advantage for his compared with meeting Nadal in the Final.

But I guess he is pretty mad of having to play an in-form Murray in the next round. This is not fair for the No 1 seed. I hope they schedule his QF in the first to two QF days (not sure if this is already decided).

What's with all the Nadal praise from Roger lately? I think he's trying to cheer him up, perhaps the friendship is more real than I thought, or he really doesn't want to see Djokovic win Ha Ha.

I agree with Roger on that one, if Nadal plays well and beats or drains a lot of energy from Djokovic in the QF, it could be tough.

Neither are.
Its just nadal did himself no favours with his ranking thus his draw was always gonna be "*sh1t" due to seeding.
Novak on the other hand as no1 seed had little to no luck this time around.

Either way im looking forward to upcoming matches.

At almost age 34, he is number two in the world. What more do you want? Leave him alone. He gets asked these questions about Nadal and Djokovic all of the time. What is he supposed to say? He is giving his opinion about how Nadal's seeding at RG is dangerous for the other top players and he is right. What is the big deal? We also know that when Nadal is in good form he can be a challenge for Djokovic at the slams and yes all of the slams. We know this from past experience. I don't know what some people are freaking out about on this forum. The truth?

He's stating the truth. Nadal is the 9-time champion. What on earth could possibly affect him there?

Djokovic, on the other hand, is going to have to slay the beast and then find a way to get mentally ready for two more matches to win the trophy. It's a far worse situation for him.

There doesn't have to be some sinister motive behind every interview these guys give. Just use a little logic and you can quickly conclude that he's simply giving an honest answer.

Right! We must have been posting at the same time because I just said essentially the same thing in the post before:

Not just Federer. Anytime any of them speak, the loonies come out over-analyzing every word like its Sola Scriptura and has some underlying intent to mind$&@# one of their rivals.

Just par for the course.

And, if Federer does like Nadal better than Djokovic, so what? He has that right. Methinks Novak's need to be loved by all has bled into his fan base. Sensitive.

Truth? ;)

This is a great tennis player, not a great thinker.

I would just quote Mark Twain:

"The report of my death was an exaggeration," then use the for Nadal.

Federer is showing that he's twice as smart as Evert and Patrick McEnroe.
All these media clowns wrote Nadal off last year too (and last year was worse, because he lost in straight sets to Ferrer on clay, and lost to Almagro on clay, and got slaughtered by Nishikori before Nishikori got injured). Nadal only dropped 2 sets at Roland Garros, and the media clowns still don't get it

Federer has an opinion and is entitled to it. He doesn't owe the loony fans anything and can't worry about their hurt feelings. He stated that Nadal's seeding at the FO may be dangerous for the top players. Duh.

A lot of people are talking on this forum like they know automatically what is going to happen in that QF match and at this FO in general. The truth is, nobody knows. Maybe Nadal won't make it to Djokovic, or maybe he will pull off the FO of the ages and beat Djokovic, Murray and Federer or whichever player is in the final. Maybe Murray will win the whole thing, or maybe even Federer if both Djokovic and Nadal fall earlier (unlikely but stranger things have happened.)

Of course he doesn't. Federer is #2 by accident. It's not like he's training or fighting for it. He's just vacationing all year and he's #2 because he's just that good. Obviously.

He is taking it so easy that he doesn't even realize he's #2. What a player! If only he would work for 1 hour everyday, he'd be winning 4 Slams a year! Obviously. What a lazy bugger. He should be ashamed of himself for being the #2 Tennis player in the world at the age Sampras was long retired and babysitting his kids. How shameful.

There is nothing objective in what he said.

You, on the other hand, are just a blind fan boy.

Can you honestly tell that having Rafa in the quarters will not hurt Djokovic's chances?

That's what Roger also said. Rafa is a nine times RG champion for heavens sake and he can take out any guy and you know that very well also

I think Federer is also a great thinker. He is a great tennis analyst. Usually he is right about everything he says. Even about past greats.

The guy is in tune with tennis Universe like Newton was in tune with the real Universe.

I think Nole can suffer from a burn out after playing at a really high level up till now this year. But, still it would take a huge effort in Nadal's level of play to beat Nole. If Nadal finds that extra gear in first four matches, I'd give him the edge over Nole.

Federer really is a bit all over the place these days though. First, I believe he called Nadal and Djokovic "co-favourites" before Rome. Then after Rome, he basically said Nadal WAS the favourite. Of course, being the favourite doesn't really matter, but for the purposes of this discussion, how he figured that after Nadal lost to Wawrinka losing 4 SP's and a 6-2 2nd set and Djokovic cremated him, I'll never know. Now he's saying this, which falls in line with Nadal being the favourite, I guess, but it also hurts Nadal too. Federer's picking a side here when in reality both are hurt by falling in the same QF. I kind of understand what Federer is saying about Nadal only thinking about defending his title so the earlier Novak has to play him the worse it is for him, but it's a very real possibility also that Nadal could lose to Djokovic and I believe he's out of the top 10 then. That's where Federer is wrong in brushing that aside IMO.

And the part about Nadal being #1 is pretty laughable in all honesty. Top 4 if not injured I could certainly see, maybe even 2nd (although I doubt that as well the way he was going last year), but he wouldn't be #1. After Wimbledon last year, Nadal had the HC triple to defend, and he's never defended a HC title in his life so there's that.

There's no way Nadal would've picked up enough points to finish #1 in his weakest part of the season. He probably would've skipped one of Shanghai or Paris anyway, and he had 1000 pts to defend at the WTF's.

Like I said, laughable, especially considering Novak's post USO run.

Federer is right again because Djokovic is the top seed, if he loses it would hurt him. Whereas, Nadal is the sixth seed, based upon seeding, he is not supposed to beat Djokovic.
