Rafael Nadal's Workout Routine- Guys a BEAST!

Sounds more like a sales pitch for the weird machine thingie and the bands than anything else. 80% of the text is devoted to describe them, the rest is a very cursory and generic description of Nadal's training regime.

also answers why he is injured. In fact he lifted weights the same day he lost at the aussie open. Big mistake

Wow, what a grueling workout, he sure is a beast.:)

Lets see he starts out standing in place on a vibrator plate, and than moves on to what looks like a 10lb resistance band.

This makes Agassi's 300lb bench presses and running up mountains of sand look like child's play.

I seriously doubt Nadal has ever done deadlifts or half of those exercises in his life. I read that he mostly does running and it makes sense because he's not as big as tennis players make him out to be. He's just got good genetics and low body fat along with some muscle mass from good diet and maybe some bodyweight/resistance band training.

That video is immense - have you heard the sound the guy's racquet makes when he hits the ball - it's like a cannon - keep those videos coming!

The Tennis Guy

Pretty interesting stuff. Hard to imagine that Power Plate machine really works but if it helps Nadal then it probably works, lol. Didn't realize his left arm is that much bigger than his right arm but I guess it's true...

New to this forum. Wanted to say whatup and look forward to contributing more posts!

every tennis players dominant arm is bigger. Of course he is not as asymmetrically build as federer because he plays a 2 hander, but even 2 handers use their dominant arm more.

this is because they hit much more one handed strokes than 2 handed (serve, forehand, overhead, slice, both volleys vs backhand topspin with 2 hands).

Overheard at the locker room , Rafa talking to a wheelchair tennis player......

Rafa:"Is no good, no? Every time I lose, always a body problem, my knees, flu, fever, flu, my estomago, then my right/ left leg, sweat here, sweat there, my goldfish make a divorce ....sometime, I get so unfortunate I have these problems, no?"

Wheelchair tennis player wants to kick Nadal's knees if he can only do it.

He has working arms, can't he punch Nadal in the knees?

hahahaha
:D

Nadal was advertising the powerplate, probably never stepped on one in his life. Anyone who reckons Nadal does anything other than bench-pressing, bent-over rowing, heavy squatting and deadlifting, sprints, vertical jump exercises, a hell of a lot of core work and full body PNF stretching is seriously deluded...

There are vids of Rafa working on the PowerPlate as supplementation to his gym and other training routine.

I found them; I'm sure you can too.

He didn't want to break the remaining functional limbs.

Can't he ram Nadal's shins like the greeks did with their naval rams to Xerxes' Persian Navy in the great naval battle of Salamis (about a month after the events of 300)?

Joke aside, a lot of people who are confined to wheelchairs have pretty strong arms as it's the only limbs they use and I'm pretty sure Nadal's knees are not made of steel for them to break a hand hitting it. Plus, you can hit below the knee, to avoid the bigger bone. :)

It is always interesting to check out pro athletes workout routines, they are always looking for an edge, and if this machine helps even minutely it is an edge. Like previously mentioned this is only one of the things Nadal does for preperation.

Typical Nadal story line........works out, doesn't work out...........right leg injury/ left leg injury...........physical beast, gets hurt the most/ chokes on banana............talks about illnesses and injuries, loses, says doesn't want to talk about injury, then proceeds to do so but tries to convince people at the same time he doesn't want to....... humble champion of the people, drives AM, 500k watch, romps in Armani shoot.......complains about tough schedule, plays a lot of tournaments.......supposedly very mentally strong on the court, looks up to his box for advice/support a lot..........

I do remember Nadal (or somebody on his behalf) claiming that Nadal does virtually no workout in the gym and that he does enough "on the job" fitness exercise (during tennis practice, which of course is the biggest nonsense ever
.

The wheelchair players don't want to hit Nadal. It would be low for them to hit a "cripple".

I thought he gets training by a fitness coach that has worked on him since him being a kid. Him or uncle toni once said they prefer to keep their regiment secret.

Not necessarily.

Look at Nadal's body. Does it look like the body of a guy that hits the gym? Nadal has said many many times that he doesn't like to train in the gym which doesn't mean that he NEVER goes but he always says it like it's a rarity for him.

Guy has a big left bicep, no pecs, doesn't exactly have wide shoulders, has abs but no visible six pack(I've seen a lot more players with lower body fat levels than Nadal) and big legs/ass.

We know that Nadal has long grueling practices(and matches), runs a lot and isn't exactly a gym buff. Nadal's body can be achieved by playing tennis, doing a bit of running and packing some dumbbells for bicep workout. Hell, look at Nadal's tricep(which is 2/3 of the upper arm) on his left arm, it is pretty underdeveloped compared to his biceps.

So yes, I would believe that Nadal spends little to no time in the gym.

If you wanna see someone who looks like a gym buff, checkout pics of juan monaco or andreev playing shirtless. Those are guys that clearly work on their physiques. Nadal's muscles are nothing more than hype.

Dude, you still harping on that?

It was a translation error: the original spanish article got it right. No controversy here.

Oh, and people seriously think Nadal would pretend to choke on a banana in the middle of a match :) ?

Most players look to their box. Proof that this is a weak minded era.

Anyway, you should be grateful for Nadal's "stories", no?

What else would you write about?

Yeah translation...........check the newest news, still says right leg. Funny how these multiple news agencies keep making the "error", over and over again. Still waiting for you ****s to provide a link of any retraction that somebody made a mistake.

See how funny Rafa's reaction was while explaining and pointing to his throat on the banana incident? Yeah he really looked like a beast.

You know , for somebody at his stature, his homework is done when he gets on court. It's between him and the opponent now. So most players do it makes it ok?

I will have nothing to write about? It's just comical people blabber about Nadal and when you put it together, it's just a big bundle of hot mess. Keep doing it, it's entertaining actually.

Seriously? LOL!

Wow, what a convincing argument. I'm now thoroughly convinced that Nadal is a bodybuilder, herp derp.

Read others' comments in the thread and you'll see they agree with me. There's no way he lifts that many weights with shoulders, chest, triceps, etc. that weak.

Right, cause news agencies which follow the copy/paste formula of "research" will do that. They went on Nadal's site who is notorious for messed up English, copy pasted that and the mistake got passed along. Note that the spanish version had the correct info: "pierna izquierda" - left leg.

http://www.rafaelnadal.com/es/content/diez-dias-de-reposo-por-rotura-fibrilar

The famous sports paper Marca also said left leg the day when he got the scans. Look it up.

The wrong info is, surprise-surprise, on sites in english, who got the info from Nadal's site, which sucks on English even more than Rafa.

Even if you have no idea of Spanish/English it doesn't take a genius to figure that the left leg is the one injured.

He had the left leg bandaged and was doing stretching to his left leg.

The OP posted a older article and as cucio said, this is sales pitch, not Nadal's actual routine so you can't make a correct assessment about his training routine.

I was also making the point that Nadal looks like someone who rarely visits the gym and anybody who's hit the gym in their life knows what I am talking about. I just don't get why everybody is so shocked when they hear "Nadal doesn't go the gym" as if Nadal looks like a gym buff. The guy has average build, with a big bicep.

There's an error in the translation from Rafa's dialect to English. When he says
"I do work out', they translate it to "I don't work out", same issue with the right/left leg injury. The Nafans on here pointed that out to me.

Also, when he says "My knees are ^*%@@$##ing busted for life, no?" The 'no' negates the statement, hence he means my knees are just fine. How do I know this? Well his entire team suffers from the same mis-translation issue, including his learned doctor.

They don't get it, Nadal is a tooth pick. But oh man he is such a beast, the problem is that most of the people on these forums are either a) pencil neck geeks or b) fat @zzes.

Nadal is all of 185lbs, I am 220lbs and even I am still considered small/only kinda muscular and I have 8% bodyfat LOL

His doc spoke in spanish. Blame the dumbasses at the Nadal site who can't translate properly and trust me, this isn't anything new for them.

Just because you go to the gym doesn't mean that you'll end up having a bodybuilder-esque physique. Especially if you're an athlete, your not training to look good, you're training to maximize your abilities on the playing field. Nadal most likely only excercises those muscles that are utilized heavily in tennis..chest and triceps are pretty much useless in almost every sport, especially non-contact sports. You will notice however that he has massive legs, which most likely come from heavy squats (you can't get huge legs just by running), and a left bicep that obviously took some work to achieve (no one has a bicep like that without at least a moderate amount of lifting, and his is exceptionally well defined).

This is not the first time that *********s (in this case the "translaters") have been caught taking advantage of the lack of English knowledge of the Nadal story and take liberty and concoct falsehoods and preted that Nadal said something that he actually never said but they wish he did say in their fantasy.
