Raise net on public tennis court?

Hi all,

I live near two public tennis courts and one of the nets has been absolutely ravaged by kids and people using the courts for activities other than tennis. Now one of the nets sinks so the center is only about a foot and a half off the ground. I'm not very handy, is there a tool I can use to raise the net? Pictures below.

Thanks!

Call your park and rec department and have them come out and fix it.

A short term fix is to have 2 42 in 1x4 with s small notch or buy a set of Singles Sticks and carry them with you.

Ooo using a few singles sticks isn’t a bad idea! I’ve put in a maintenance requests with the parks department but past requests have taken 6-12 months, so I’m not expecting them to address this anytime soon.

Had this problem BITD. Invited our Mayor to play on the courts at our local park. He had the courts re-surfaced and replace the nets & net posts. New mayor must play pickled-ball. Got 8 new P courts along with 8 new tennis courts. Hard to believe

If parks and rec won’t fix the nets you could use a crescent wrench to loosen the net cord and put the end loop on the pin. Then wind the net cord around the drum (with the loop on the pin) to tighten the net cord. Then you need a net strap to hold down the center of the net to 36”. If the net strap or hardware in court hold the net strap are missing you need those parts too.

Irvin to the rescue!

In addition, it looks like the "handle" has been removed or broken off.
You can get a set of vise grip style pliers for less than $10 at Ace or Wal Mart, etc.
I keep some in my car for just such situations.
They are INVALUABLE for cranking in either direction.

Late to the party here . . . but Irvin is right. It's funny--I actually keep an adjustable crescent wrench in my bag for occasional net issue(s). I also carry a spare center strap and clip and some other stuff that I have found comes in handy after many, many years of playing tennis in many, many place. I have buddy that calls my tool bag a "kidnap kit"--I told him by the time he realizes that is true, it will be too late . . .

Carried some quick drying cement to repair the piece that held the center strap down. Or for a pair of shoes for that kidnap victim. Tried using a 10# plate but maybe a kettlebell would work better. Should've saw the look on my partner's face when he tried to pick up my tennis bag and discovered rope, weights, and an indian club.

My tennis bag weighs like 250 lbs between all the racquets either mine or others that I am going to string or have strung, my USTA binder, tennis balls, and.....

A socket wench with the appropriate socket to adjust nets. <<Edited thanks Irvin!>>

Definitely. Was a captain for our USTA League team which meant arriving early to clean the hardcourts, check/measure the nets, and greet the opposing team. Knew most of the players. Just ran into some long away teams that were 60 to 100 miles away. Our club would agree to have all our teams play on Saturday or Sunday whenever traveling to their club. One great pic-a-nic.
