Care to explain how on earth is Federer on clay greater than Nadal on grass?

2 Wimbledon titles > 1 Roland-Garros title.

Plus, Nadal defeated prime Federer at Wimbledon while Federer never beat Nadal at RG. It's not even up for debate.

Nadal also has 6 Slams on hard, as compared to Djokovic's 2 Slams on clay. Even if we consider that there are 2 Slams held on hard, 6÷2 = 3. Nadal averages 3 titles per Slam held on hard, while Djokovic averages 2 titles per Slam held on clay.

Nadal clay is obviously top and Nadal grass is obviously bottom. Federer clay at 9? Why?? The guy who almost certainly has five titles there with the removal of one single guy? The dude who didn’t play there for years then comes back and goes all the way to the semi? And again, he might well have won that tournament if not for Nadal:-D Hell, at least Federer’s worst RG losses came in his 30s. Defend the guy Kohli? Melzer? He gets no sympathy points for being young, look at his results there prior to those years.

Rafa obviously has ridiculous grass peaks, but he was too bad for too long on the surface to take him over any of the others.

To me there’s no way I’m taking Federer on grass over hard. Yes, the longevity of his success on the surface is remarkable, but it’s way too specialised a surface to take over the guy who dominated the hard courts so strong in what is undeniably the age of the hard court.

1. Nadal - clay
2. Djokovic - hard (just barely over 3)
3. Federer - hard
4. Federer - grass
5. Djokovic - grass
6. Federer - clay
7. Nadal - hard
8. Djokovic - clay (only this low as you’re specifying it’s at the slams)
9. Nadal - grass

At his peak, there’s certainly a debate to be had. But Novak never had extended poor streaks like Nadal’s 2012-2017.

This is very true, the issue is that Novak lost to Stan. In a final. When he had already beaten Rafa. He should have cruised to victory.

Can't wait for the inevitable "NOLE: GRASS GOAT!" posts.

He's the grass LOAT - Luckiest of all time

Barely got by old man Rogi in 3 finals...

Nadal faces peak Rogi in 3 finals yet Novak's 6 titles to Nadal's 2 point to him being some grass king lmao...

2008 Wimbledon Nadal owns any version of Novak on grass.

I think this fits well with Novak being behind but better on his worse surfaces than the other two. I mean, Federer on grass appears to be underrated and the only reason I agree to have him slightly below his hard court level is due to sample size. There's only 1 grass Slam and he's made 12 finals winning 8, three of those losses he arguably should have won and then he has two chokejob QF exits and a chokejob semi exit. However on the 2 HC Slams he not only has 11 Slams but he has plenty of chokejobs there too with 1 in a final, 2 worse in semis and I'd argue Murray SF AO loss in 2013 and Tsitsipas 2019 losses were also significant chokes. But I jostle left and right. Point being Nadal to me is clearly the top on clay and worst on grass.

Since I had the same Nadal placing I'll answer this as well. The 5 grass finals he went to in 2006-2011 was more chewed up grass and still hasn't been fixed. Now in 2007 he nearly lost to Youzhny and Soderling, think about that clearly and then think who Federer lost to on clay. 1 of his titles he beat Berdych, yawn, and his 1 really good run in 08, well we can argue all day but Fed had built up a choke and ultimately lost in darkness which was a much bigger handicap for his style than Rafa. All things considered I don't think 2>1 really works here.

As for the Nadal HC vs. Novak on clay, I mean, two gift draws that Novak never got at the French for one? And although 2022 AO Nadal was able to maintain he DID indeed benefit from both Shap and Med imploding on themselves and Novak not in the draw. So yeah, that basically means he only has three solid runs at HC Slams with double the events obviously.

And for both instances, Nadal on clay is being agreed on here as the toughest obstacle.

Notes:

Nadal over Federer on hard: Federer's only wins of note were against Agassi in 2005 and Nadal in 2017. Nadal on the other hand has beaten Djokovic twice and Federer once. Nadal also holds a 3-1 H2H lead over Federer at slam level on hard.

Djokovic over Federer on grass: Again, Federer's only real notable wins on grass were against baby Nadal on his worst surface. He also lost to Nadal once and Djokovic 3 times at Wimbledon. His H2H against Djokovic at Wimbledon is 1 - 3.

You feel Nadal on HCs is higher than Federer on HCs ????
Djokovic on Grass is higher than Federer on Grass ????

Horrible ....

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

3 Clay Masters vs. 6 Hard Court or do you not do math? Plus Nadal GOAT Clay kept Novak down and still 2020 was Covid and Novak only played MC/Rome last season. Same with the 6 HC Slams because there's twice as many HC Slams.

I also like how you accept not counting masters when it comes to the grass for Nadal? Only 1 Queens title and 1 Stuttgart (against Troiki) or oh, it's just Slams then? Why put up Masters stats at all? You see how you contradict yourself right? Nah probably not.

Lucky Pony on blue clay
No-Trick Pony on slow-ass greens

Connors/McEnroe on hard (tie)
McEnroe on carpet
Connors on grass
Connors/Borg on carpet (tie)
Borg on hard
Connors/McEnroe on clay (tie)

You're welcome.

Federer and Djokovic aren't bad clay court players. They just aren't on the same level as Nadal. Were it not for Nadal, Federer and Djoker would have 5 FOs each, maybe more since some of the losses to Nadal were in the semis.

Correct but incomplete, because blue clay, indoor clay, and indoor irrigated grass are not listed.
