Murray, Soderling. Then nadal, federer, djokovic in no particular order although maybe slight edge to nadal in that group.

Looks like the bookies are leaning towards nadal at this point.

Final: Nadal defeats Federer in a memorable 5 setter.

I am less optimistic about Murray's chances given his form on hardcourts after the AO : losses to Fish, Tipsarevic and Soderling (more understandable, though he usually owns the bigger hitters in these events), and his form in general. The Wimbledon run was not all that convincing, not to mention all the thrashings on clay (Kohls, 2x Ferrer, Berdych).

I was going to type out a long explanation for each player but I'm at work and probably should get back to work-related activities. That or less typing to seem less obvious :)

4. Nadal
5. Roddick
6. Berdych

A Fed Slam would be Epic !

I'd love to see Nadal accomplish the Career GS and Fed Slam (defeating Federer at all 4 GS tournaments) in one fell swoop! I think this may be his last opportunity for the Fed Slam, however

top 10 is mysterious right now and since we haven't seen any of them in awhile on hardcourt it's impossible to say.

obviously Fed and Nadal will go in favorites, but I think Soderling, Berdych and potentially Murray/Djokovic--depending on their USO series results--will be the big threats. Can't count Roddick out especially after his disappointing loss at Wimbledon and last year's US

Your all rating Davydenkos chances well below Soderling, Berdych and Roddick.

I know he is not the flavour of the month but he was the form player at the start of the year and gave Fed a game at the ozzie open should have beaten him maybe.

Berdych is being overrated big time because of his wimbly final and french semifinal.

Davydenko is being ranked so low because he's injured. If he was as in good of form as he was at the Australian Open, I'd put him in the top 4.

1. Federer- GOAT
2. Murray- Comes alive on hard courts
3. Nadal- In-form player
4. Djokovic- Dangerous on hard courts, capable of beating any of the above
5. Roddick- Indian Wells and Miami shows he is still a force on hard courts
6. Davydenko- WTF showed his potential to beat the best
7. Del Potro- Defending champion, can't be written off
8. Soderling- Would have to play at 110% to beat Federer, Murray etc
9. Berdych- Similar to Soderling, has to hit big for 3 sets.
10. Verdasco- Don't know how he is still in the top 10

Roger hasn't won a title in his last 8 tournaments. And some of you think he's the favorite at the US Open? Sorry, but his backhand is barely reliable these days and he's not as confident.

As for Nadal, he's the man to beat.

Not until he proves he can win at the Open. Until then, he'll get a #1 seed but that is it. A lot of players can beat Nadal on this surface. He had played well enough to get to semi in the past 2 years. We'll see how he'll play but he's definitely not the man to beat on this surface.

Top 4 were very tough to rank. I put Nadal as favorite because he is number 1 in the world, won last two slams. But I think he still isn't quite as good on these fast surfaces as murray or djokovic can be at times. not on feds level either, but he has the mental advantage if they met. Fed is at number 2 simply because his relatively poor form lately, loss of confidence. He can turn it around and dominate anybody except nadal on these courts though. Both djoko and murray have the talent to win, but have been very up and down this season. sod and berdych have the weapons but maybe not the mental strength to win. I see both going very deep in the tournament though. roddick i think sadly his time has passed. verdasco-mental midget. no way he wins. davydenko-been playing poorly since comeback. delpo-likely to not even play

Sorry, but when Fed can't beat his pigeon on his favorite surface, what makes you think he'll dominate USO? For all we know he'll meet another big hitter and get owned. Unless he comes out super motivated and firing on all cylinders, I just don't see him being favorite over Nadal/Murray or even Faker.

I find it funny when a Nadal fan dares to call someone else a Faker.

They have indeed, and that makes it very hard to predict.

If Murray plays like he did at the US Open in 2008 and Australian Open this year then it's his biggest chance to win one. He's beaten Nadal there before and it's without doubt the toughest of the majors for Nadal, if Federer doesn't find a way out of his slump and Murray doesn't win, it will be a huge opportunity missed.

I have a feeling it will be either Murray, Djokovic of Federer to take this one, whichever of the 3 strings two solid weeks together will take it.

There are alot of ifs and buts, but the tennis Nadal and Murray played at the last big event would put them as the top two favourites for me.

It's possible the fastest courts out of the four majors and the fact Nadal has played a hell of a lot this year could possibly tip it in Murray's favour. Put it this way, if Federer doesn't recapture his form and Murray doesn't win, it will be a huge missed opportunity.

I'm gonna have to agree with you on this one. Murray can take it this time, if not him, then Fed seems like the next logical choice, assuming he recovers from this slump

1. Nada: nada
2. Mugray: biggest threat to Nadal on HC.
3. T-Berd: he's improved a lot and grown in confidence.
4. Nole: his breathing issues demoted him on my list.
5. Soderclown: another dangerous opponent for Rafa on HC.
6. ********: his era is over but i expect he'll make the quarters.
7. RodDick: doubtful
8. Tabasco: could make the quarters depending on the draw.
9. Donkeydenko: in poor form right now.
10. Del Porto: too early from wrist surgery, if he even plays.

As usual, a lot will depend on the draw ;)

Fixed the names for you. Biased much? :)

Yeah both Davy and Del Po were playing like monsters at the end of last year, too bad about their injuries

T1 Nadal
3 Federer
4 Djokovic
5 Soderling
6 Davydenko
7 Roddick
8 Berdych
9 Del Potro (He won't be at a good level)
10 Verdasco (If he wins a slam, I will die with shock)

How many hardcourt titles for Nadal the past 16 months? Hardcourt slams?
This is why legacy and history points do nothing.

This is same attitude tennis fans have shown all life, how many times he did it before, if not then he will never do it. Despite ignoring warning signs.

When there is smoke , there is usually fire.

You just quoted a provocative counter-troll post I made as a 15 year old, in 2010. It really isn’t that deep.

I read the whole thread, i know it was counter troll. I am talking about the attitude of members.

i have no idea what point you’re even making.

that people were underrating Nadal’s chances? Easy thing to say after the fact. At the time Nadal was slumping hard on HC and hadn’t won on the surface in a year and a half.

Just going by past or recent past is not good.

What else is there to go on but “the past or recent past”?

That’s how forecasts are made.

If a player is playing well now, he will have great chances.

Nadal was playing unbelievably well up to the summer HC season in 2007 and 2008, yet didn’t win the US Open either year.

This is what I meant when I said “easy to say after the fact.” Nadal eventually winning doesn’t make the predictions illogical at the time they were made. It just makes them wrong.

I didn’t think Nadal would win the US Open in 2008 either (despite better form leading up to the tournament), and I was correct there. Can’t get things right every time.
