Oh it's true, it's dammmm true
Raonic definitely has top 10 and probably at some point top 5 potential. So he lost his first match in Rome on slow red clay. Even the best in the world lose in early round matches when they are established. Doesn't mean a thing that he lost here.
Yes he is future Top 5 player .
He is focused and his mind is sorted which i don't see in tomic.dimitrov, gulbis etc.
About the today loss then its even happen with Top players e.g. nadal lost dodig,Federer lost benneteau & Volandari, Nole & Murray many matches!!
Not a big deal ..he can make a move in RG.
I'm sure someone will bump when Milos first cracks the top 5.
Hopefully in the next 4 month's.
His interview yesterday:
Some people need to retire for him to be a top 5 candidate.
Relax. Raonic is only 21. Federer just broke into the top 10 at 21. A little too early to count your chickens.
I think he should play Nice next week
Raonic is 11 in the race. Not bad for a 21 year old. He won't be a future dominating player I think, but he will do well, crack the top 10 and maybe the top 5. Not that farfetched.
He tweeted 2hrs ago:
I'm off to Monaco
Wonder if that's to prepare for Nice, or just for RG.
Top Ten bound first, he had better put on his climbing shoes with spikes and then get adjusted to what top ten life is, keeping others climbing up out of it and always getting to the quarter finals .
Yes, They are Young Emperor Penquins, the crown of feathers comes later in life
Hopefully in the next 4 month's
... next 4 month's
For all that is holy, don't use apostrophes to pluralize words.
Totally agree. He has the potential to be top 10-15 by the end of the year.
Sorry, the top 5 only has 1 opening in the next few years or so. He's going to have to battle it out with every player on tour other than MurDjokodalerer.
Yes he does have top five potential and he has realised that other players do 'jump one everything he hit' but then that is what the top five had to come to terms since they started the climb to the top
Yes he does.
Man he's good. Juan Monaco lollll
I don't know about top 5 right now. Let see him get to top ten. Pushing Monaco is not bad on his weakest surface. This points he get on Grass and Summer Hardcourts will be key for his jump to top ten.
Very bad performance from Raonic. Was expecting A LOT better from him at this stage. Not impressed and not happy with what I saw from him against a very poor player like Monaco who is not at all talented. 0-8 on BPs is telling stuff on how bad Raonic's return game is. Especially considering Monaco isn't even a good server.
Considering clay is Monaco's bread-and-butter and Raonic's worst surface, I don't get the humour in this. Monaco has also had a very solid year for the most part. Raonic is ranked around #20 right now, with practically no points to defend for the rest of the season and his most favourable tournaments coming up. I'd say a Top 15 year-end ranking is very likely (he's #13 in the Race now) with even Top 10 being reasonably possible. If he stays healthy long-term, I think a Top 5 ranking is probably inevitable at some point, although that's probably at least 2-3 years away.
He's borderline top 20 despite missing 4 months last year.
He just lost to a top 15 player on his weakest surface, and his opponent's strongest surface, in 5 sets.
Raonic is doing fine.
Tsonga smashed Monaco at RG 2009 which was Monaco's best surface and Tsonga's worst. Why did Raonic not show this same potential even if he's not great on clay? He's still got enough talent to make the surface irrelevant. That's what good players are supposed to do. Raonic lost to Monaco and he should not have, no matter if it's clay or not.
Agreed. I don't see what is so terrible about losing to Monaco, a higher seed, on Monaco's best surface (and Raonic's worst surface).
Because Monoco is not a Slam quality player. Monaco is one who loses in the first or second rounds of Slams, be it grass, hardcourts AND CLAY! Raonic should NOT have lost this match!
Monaco was ranked 68 in the world when he played Tsonga in 2009. He is unquestionably playing much better now.
And Tsonga has lost to Isner, Dolgopolov, Simon and Haas this year on clay. Perhaps you try to pick a better example.
Monaco is arguably playing the best tennis of his career lately. This is the dawn of Monaco 2.0
And watch when Monaco only wins 3 games against Nadal in another dismal effort similar to his Davis Cup effort. Monaco is the most overrated player of all. He is not a Slam player. The fact that Federer made this guy look like a practice partner when Monaco was in form tells us everything about Monaco. Clay or not, Monaco is a clown.
How can Monaco be playing better when he got bounced in the first round of Australian Open this year? Nobody cares if Monaco is playing well in garbage useless small clay tournaments. What matters is how you perform in the Slams. And Monaco on average is eliminated in the Slams most of the time by the 2nd round. A lot of the time gone in the 1st round.
Fascinating that, to you, the 13th seed is "a very poor player . . . who is not at all talented". And yet somehow (for reasons apparently unknown to you yet known to the seeding committee) this "very poor player" ended up as the 13th seed -- and justified it.
The 13th seed beat the 19th seed today in 5 sets. The surface was the 13th seed's best and the 19th seed's worst.
Yet somehow to you it was an epic failure for the lower seeded player.
Well said. Monaco is one of the better clay court players in the world.
I thought Raonic would win (he probably would have if didn't have so many UE's), but the higher ranked player/better clay court player won, as he should have.
He has already reached his potential, he proved it today against Monaco
No more big servers... please...
Man, you guys are a bunch of Negative Nancys.
mind your P's and Q's
Pros and cons
do's and don't's
How many S's in Mississippi?
More worried about people failing to kern, letter space and lead really.
Monaco is ranked #15 and is one of the best 5 or 6 clay court players on tour. Poor server? Not. His 1st serve was over 70% today. Check your facts before you post.
monaco served well. i watched most of the match and couldn't believe some of the poor shots raonic hit. it was like he was using the middle of the net for target practice. if he had played a bit better and converted a few break points i think he would have won the match.
As a point of interest, Monaco is one of Raonic's buddies on the tour, along with Ferrer and Del Potro.
Has anyone read Raonic's interview? His first serve failed him big time.
And huge thanks fo RDS and TSN for showing the entire match...all 4 1/2 hours of it, as well as all of Wozniak's matches.
Yes he is, he is very focused and his serve is one of the best in history. He just needs to come inside the baseline more often and be more aggressive after his big serves
He strings his runs together in slams from time to time, doesn't he? E.g. didn't he make a little noise last year in Flushing? And that was on a hard court.
Bingo. Raonic didn't play his best today but can't take anything away from Monaco. The guy is some serious run of form right now and if Raonic was at his best, it'll still would of been a tough test regarding the end result. Sadly, he plays Nadal and Nadal plays the same sort of game but better, show he's kinda screwed for that one.
I agree with you. Raonic couldn't get a 1st serve in the box after the first set or a fh in the court for most of the match and yet took it to 5. That IMO is impressive.
From the bits I read of his comments he indicated that he was not upset by the outcome of the match. He earned some more points and will now get ready for the green stuff.
And the bottom line from Raonic...
I wish I could have played better," said Raonic, who will start his grass campaign in just over a week at Halle, Germany. "I really didn't do a lot of things well so I was just trying to make the most of it and I was able to have my opportunities -- to have my chances."
Yes, Monaco made noise by becoming one of the highest seeds whom Federer has ever literally obliterated publicly on a tennis court. Literally it was man on man r*pe!
Really well that does not say much for milos then does it. I thought you were the one talking about milos taking out nadal, of course you said that isner could upset him also.
Just shows there is a big difference in what you are fantasizing about and what is reality. Hard to believe your picks to possibly take rafa out cannot even get past no name hammers, to funny.
You like being the devil's advocate...so here's a challenge for you. Given the up=coming 4th rd. matches, who do you see as advancing to the next round.
Stop being a critiiic...let's see your insight into what will happen in he second week...
I never said anything about Raonic taking out Nadal. You have me confused with somebody else. I said that Raonic is the most promising young players out there and despite still being fairly raw, is closer and closer to beating guys in the top 3 than anybody else in the sport if the conditions suit him and if he's serving huge or basically having a great day.
But again, anytime you feel Raonic is closer, he's still so far away. Can't even beat a mug like Monaco
For all I know, Raonic will go out in the 3rd round of Wimbledon too against a non grass courter like Almagro right when Federer, Nadal or Djokovic is waiting in the next round. Or Raonic will slip and fall again and be gone for another 7-8 months.
Raonic is a huge disappointment thus far considering his talent.
No talented player should be losing to Juan Monaco anywhere! You're going to see just how pathetic and useless Monaco is when Nadal smashes him 6-1 6-2 6-0 like the typical useless little mug Monaco is with his wimpy light-weight game and zero creativity and zero power. Monaco isn't a Slam player. The fact that Raonic with his 88 UEs still took it to 5 sets shows Monaco is just a weedy little pusher.
Wawrinka over Tsonga. Berdych over Del Potro. Nadal over Monaco (Monaco won't win more than 4 games). Federer and Djokovic over the clowns they're slated to play.
one of the clowns is looking pretty good right now.......
Another big win for Raonic!!!
Raonic another player thats terrible for tennis.Serving machine.thats it.
