Raonic - Murray, Tokyo SF
Perhaps the real derby of the tournament.

Raonic played great in some sequences with Tipsarevic, however Murray is riding a wave of great confidence.

Your pick? It's tied:

2012 US Open
NY, U.S.A. Hard R16 Murray, Andy
6-4, 6-4, 6-2

2012 Barcelona
Spain Clay Q Raonic, Milos
6-4, 7-6(3) Stats

Murray is just on fire and seems to be coasting against Wawrinka right now. After his last two months, it's hard to imagine him going down very easily or at all. I'm pulling for Raonic, but Murray in 3 tight ones.

+1, for poll vote and your comments.

Murray in 2, no problems.

Murray outclassed him in New York, and although Raonic did have some fight, he's just not at Andy's level yet.

Let's not forget that Raonic lost to Nadal in Tokyo 2010 and Tokyo 2011 without breaking Nadal even once (in 2010, Nadal WON 6-4 6-4, and in 2011, Nadal WON 7-5 6-3). So clearly Raonic has trouble breaking opponents who serve well in Tokyo, so it should be a decisive straight sets one-break-per-set win for Murray.

No idea who this Nadal guy is, but he can't be very good if he's not in either of the 500 events currently playing.

Is he playing in Challengers? I don't really follow those.

Regardless, Murray has a very poor second serve, so Raonic will have chances to break him - problem for Raonic is that Murray is the best returner in the game, which neutralises his most potent weapon.

Murray is going to kill Raonic as he seems to be on a roll after his first slam win at the USO and he is a better player than Raonic. Murray in straights most likely.

voted for Raonic to even up the votes a bit

Murray will win in 2 sets, 1 set with a double break, one with a single.

11 PM EST tonight, it should be on streams, including Sky, which is very good:

[1] Andy Murray (GBR)

v

[6] Milos Raonic (CAN)

This is a right fate tempter, but I make Murray 20-2 in the semis of ATP500/250 events - it's pushing six years since he lost one (Feb 07).

Raonic didn't sniff a bp vs Murray at the USO

Murray was also reading Raonics serve well at the USO

Raonic is a work-in-progress and can't match Murray's stupendously good all-round game.

But... he can play better against Murray than he showed in the US Open I think, but not by much.

I'll go for Murray in 2. It's the most likely result I'd say.

Did you see him last night? Huge progress. Going for a la Sampras in returns, closer in and running FHs. The Sky commentators, Fleming and MacM, were very appreciative.

He played a really athletic game, high split-steps when coming to the net, like Sampras. He's becoming a spectacular guy to watch. Not just the serve.

He might got beat, but it's a show.

What strikes me as odd is that in Raonic's interview about tomorrow's match was that he appeared to have resigned himself to the fact that Murray is simply the better player. He said he'd played well in NY, but Murray had played better, so hopefully he won't play that well again. It's reminiscent of the "Andy will have to alter his game to cope with my serve" quote that made him look foolish last month.

I'd have hoped that any promising tennis player (which he is) aspiring for the top 10 and ultimately top 5 would have learned something more substantial. Mainly that he needs to add variety and depth to his own game.

Perhaps it is all part of the press conference chat, and he's hoping to lull Andy into a false sense of security, then take him by surprise with some new moves!

I can't see him learning that many new moves in the last month, so it is going to be down to how well Andy plays. He's been playing well, but it's that time of year when fatigue catches up with them, and Raonic could easily punish any lapses.

Well, this should be interesting. A rematch.

I saw the original at the US Open; you could read the frustration on Milos face.

At the same time, he's a hardworking guy, and if he's studied films of his match to correct some of the calculations he made, this could be a much more even match than people think -- even given MAndy's self-confidence boost.

We will see!

You shouldn't really put the enormous logic gaps in your thinking process on display like that unless you're completely unafraid of embarrassing yourself.

Muurya should win this. Raonic really doesn't have anything to hurt Andy with other than his serve, and I don't think that's going to be enough to get the job done.

I hope Raonic has been working on more than just his serve... he is going to need more than one weapon to beat Murray, then again I would like to see it. As a fellow Canadian that is ;-)

Murray already beat Karlovic 7-6 6-4 this tournament, so Raonic will be beaten by a similar, if not identical scoreline.

Since Raonic also beat Karlovic 7-6, 6-4 at previous tournament we have a cosmic conundrum along the lines of matter vs. anti-matter. If there's anything you want to finish up before the universe implodes, best to get started on it now.

I predict Raonic 2.0 takes down Pusher Murray by a scoreline 6-1 6-3 6-0

No way. It will be Murray in straights.

I believe Japan is just 12 hours ahead of ET, so it's about 9:36AM there right now? Don't quote me on that though.
