Perhaps the real derby of the tournament.

Your pick?

Will the freshly anointed Olympic champ be defeated, as he was in their lone encounter?

It really depends on Murray's physical condition. Looks like he tweaked his knee a bit in his 2nd round match against Cipolla. In the same match it also looked like his elbow was bothering him a bit too. If he feels fine tomorrow, I don't think Raonic is getting past him. If not, however, Raonic has definitely got the game to beat Murray.

An interesting match for sure. Arguably the best serve in tennis vs. arguably the best return.

Murray's tired, he kept hinting in the interview he doesn't want to go all out in this stretch before NYC, plus he called the trainer about his knee when he broke.

So, I'm going for a Raonic win. It'll be tight but he'll get hot in a couple tiebreaks.

Murray should be a nightmare for Raonic, but he may be tired?

Why a nightmare? Raonic completely overpowered him on clay and didn't seem to have that much trouble with his game, his inside out forehand does a ton of damage to anyone.

Murray will use a lot of drop shots I think as well as changing pace a lot since in a straight hitting match Raonic would be superior, with Raonic countering by getting himself into net a lot. In the end should be decided by the form Milos is in and how well his backhand holds up in keeping errors down.

Please Murray, just retire.
Do you want to win a slam or not?

I hope Raonic pulls through. Murray probably needs his rest after winning the Olympics and it'd be nice to see Raonic do well in front of his home crowd.

In that match he won by one break of serve in the 1st set and a breaker in the 2nd so he hardly overpowered him. Murray had many break-points against Raonic's serve but couldn't manage to convert any. In the end, Raonic just played the big points better and more consistently in that match.

If Murray plays anything like he did last week at Wimbledon, I can't see Raonic having much of a chance. The quality of Murray's returns will unsettle him and break his rhythm just like they did to Djokovic and Federer. However, Murray will have to play at or near that level or a repeat of the Barcelona match could well be on the cards. IMO, the match will be decided by at what level Murray decides to play at ie. Wimbledon or Barcelona.

I say he overpowered him because of how the match played out, Murray had very few answers for Raonic's first serve and was returning them 15-20 feet behind the baseline yet still got aced 14 times (this is on clay mind). In rallies Raonic pushed him around with his forehand and used his inside out forehand a lot to open up the court and force a bunch of defensive shots out of Murray, he also had more break points than Murray and served for the second set as well but got broken after missing two really easy overheads (indicating he was ahead in those points as well but f***ed it up.)

Also you can't compare Raonic's serve to Djoke's or Fed's, it is on a different level entirely. Maybe the faster court will help Murray a bit as it gives Raonic less time on his forehand and rewards his slice a bit more but Milos will almost certainly be in control of the match, it's similar to Berdych/Murray matchup a bit.

I think Raonic will have a chance here, Murray will be very tired from the constant match play he's had. That being said Murray is still the favorite. I'll vote for the upset and pick Raonic in 3.

If one legged Murray can beat Raonic then that indeed will be a nightmare for him.
Somehow I don't think that's going to happen.
Raonic can do Murray a big favour and take him out of the tournament early.

Milos has a great chance here. Murray only arrived in Toronto on Tuesday night and will still be on UK time. His body will be telling him the match is starting at midnight!

I'm finding it hard to see anything other than a Milos win - I might even stick a few shekels on him.

What's the odds Batz?
Sounds like this could be a really good bet.

He's about 6/4 with Murray 4/7 on mate.

So £40 on Raonic, you get £60 back?
Or do you get £100 back? 60 + the 40 you put on?
Sorry Batz. I'm not a gambler as you can tell.

Edit: it's alright, I know now. You would get £60 back.

but what if you put £40 on Murray? Maybe I don't get this.

Jeez my brain has really turned to mush.

£40 on Milos wins £100 back (60 winnings plus 40 stake)

That all makes logical sense now because I couldn't figure out the Murray winnings based on my flawed thinking.
Order has been restored to the universe.

So you would get back £62.86 if you put £40 on Murray?

Can I bet online and if so, how do I go about this? Best sites etc.
Think I'll take a punt on a Raonic win.
Win win for me if Raonic wins.
I make money and Murray gets a much needed rest.

Raonic needs to serve like a machine. If he gives Murray an opening on his serve, the match is pretty much over.

Yes you can mate, and as you have not opened an account previously, you'll qualify for lots of free/matching bets :)

If you go to www.oddschecker.com you'll be able to find out who is offering what. I personally have a ladbrokes and a betfair account. Betfair almost always offers the best odds as it's an exchange rather than a traditional bookies (you are betting against another individual rather than a bookie Befair just enables the bet).

Any q's just drop me a note buddy.

I tried registering with Betfred. What a pain in the ass. They wanted a copy of my passport, card and household bill! Can you believe that?
I just want to place a bet.
I'll try your recommendations.
Thanks Batz.

Because Raonic has power but lacks consistency at times. Murray plays defense like nobodies business. Sometimes all it is just being able to get one or two extra balls back into play. Plus Murray just gave Federer a straight set drubbing on Fed's best surface, and he beat Djokovic in straights as well. His confidence is pretty high right now.

Yeah Raonic in the QTRS....it been a while since a Canadian got this far in Canada since 07 with Dancevic.

Murray a smart move....hope he does well at the US Open!

As an FYI, I've found you have much better luck and odds betting on clay matches. The oddsmakers aren't usually tennis players or don't know too much about the sport - they don't realize that many clay court specialists show up during clay season to upset top ranked players who rack up points on HC.

EG, during clay season you might find that, say, Mardy Fish is the betting favorite against, say, Verdasco. (Maybe a bad example IDK.) Oddsmakers usually place the higher ranked player as the favorite regardless of surface, even though surface is a crucial detail. It's a relatively inefficient "market" system that can be exploited by playing the numbers.

Too bad to close this thread on such a note. Raonic needs to keep his focus. Tough: rain the whole day tomorrow too.
