Raonic: the charisma of a wet towel

I haven't seen someone this boring since Sampras. It's hard to decide whether his personality is more boring than his game that completely, ridiculously revolves around his serve. You take away his serve and you've got yourself a no-name journeyman. Watching paint dry is more exciting than seeing him play. It's a tragedy Pospisil lost to him after Raonic pulled that old sporsmanship ploy after he got his butt whipped in the second set. The ATP must crack down on the obvious abuses associated with these long breaks. The idea behind them was not to provide players with a psychological moment to recuperate and collect their thoughts. What a mockery! I dislike both his boring personality and game. Guys like him are a net minus for the game.

On the day that a Canadian gets into the top 10 for the first time since coal fired computers, a poaster called The Canadian starts a thread slating that Canadian!

Eh? :)

You never thought someone could despise a fellow countryman? Not everyone has to be nationally biased.

Although he wasn't as vocal like the rest of the American players back then, he did show some charisma when he had to battle hard. Youtube Sampras outburst to see him in action.

Playing wise, Sampras was fun to watch. Raonic is boring as hell, because he's all big boom and no flare.

One can't be too hard on someone for not being a scintillating personality. He's not here to tell jokes. And I would disagree about the rest of his game; I watched a match of his a year or two when his groundstrokes and volleying were stunning. Perhaps that's not a consistent part of his weaponry.

No - but guys who give themselves a moniker that is uber-nationalistic do tend to be.

The OP is dripping with irony because of his moniker.

I thought he gave quite a funny speech at the end. Maybe Raonic finds his own game so boring he needs to have a personality to offset it slightly.

I don't care if he's Canadian, obviously (and he was born in Montenegro anyways).

Still a boring guy and a boring player.

He looks quite boring to me too, as well for his game. But hey, that is his personality. He is more cold, you can't ask for him to show more emotions if he doesn't feel like it. At least he is being himself and not a fake.

His personality is fine. He gave a funny speech yesterday and his personality really shows in his Davis Cup interviews too.

If you find his game boring.. well.. too bad for you. I find pushers to be very boring to watch, but I don't make threads about them.

You sound like a jealous loser, Milos Raonic just made over $250,000 dollars last night reaching the Rogers Cup final. He's made almost $1 million in prize money this year alone. And that doesn't even include the millions he's making from endorsements this kid is rich and he earned his money!

I doubt Milos Raonic cares what you think OP he's counting his millions of dollars and he's crying all the way to the bank. Raonic has a $40 million dollar contract with New Balance and since he's reached the top 10 he probably gets a bonus due to his performance.

Milos is a nice kid, he isn't arrogant like say Bernard Tomic or Ryan Harrison those jokers aren't even close to the top 10 yet they ACT LIKE THEY ARE TENNIS STARS.

I resent the young players who don't have the RESULTS to back up the media attention. If you read American media news you would swear Ryan Harrison is a top 10 player and that kid isn't even CLOSE to being a top 10 player. Bernard Tomic is talent but his attitude and his lack of mental focus gets in the way of him improving.

Milos let's his racket do the talking he is respectful to his peers, he acknowledges when he's outplayed like when he lost to Nadal easily yesterday.

I really think the hate people have for Milos Raonic is because the young man is Canadian and not American.

How was Sampras boring? He was fun as hell to watch out on the court. Especially when his game was redlining

Raonic on the other hand, has an ugly game and no charisma. Double whammy. Sampras had a boring personality, but an exciting game

Who cares about Charisma anyways.. Its tennis not WWE

I agree 100% with most of what you said, but Charisma makes tennis fun to watch! I could watch Mansour Bahrami play tennis all day because not only is he a genius with a tennis racquet (Like Sampras), but his charming charisma just adds that extra something that makes me want to see more

OP you are correct. Raonic is a boring brainless serving machine who is incapable of doing anything but that. Coupled with his dearth of a personality,,, well there's nothing else you can like about him at all.

Pospisil on the other hand is the real deal. Fighter on court, good charisma, strong work ethic and endless amounts of talent. He is a Pro tennis player us Canadians should look up to. The definition of a true Canadian.

I agree. Sampras athleticism, movement and crisp strokes are something Raonic does not possess.

Raonic only on par with Sampras with his serve that where the comparison end and begins.

I also like Pospisil and I hope he eventually surpasses Raonic. He's the real deal, the entire package.

Exactly, afterall, we know how much Federer despises Stan. So much so in fact, that he tried to cheat against his fellow countryman earlier in the season...

Pete was cool, just not brash like the other Americans, imo.

Pete had so much flair. I loved watching him play.

I don't get either of these. Pete's game was exciting and he wasn't arrogant about it. He knew what he knew, a sign of confidence.

Yeah, the charisma thing. We don't get to see much of their personalities on court, but off the top of my head the only person I can think of that oozed with charisma was Safin.

And interestingly, even Raonic's serve was useless vs Nadal. Or more specifically, Raonic's 2ND SERVE. Nadal made absolute mints meat out of it. Whereas Sampras had the best 2ND SERVE I've ever seen. Or, maybe its all about Nadal. Maybe Nadal would have made mints meat out of Sampras' serve. I guess we'll never know.
