Raonic to retire after the US Open

He came back for a brief farewell, shame because I think he could get back into the top 100.

The 32-year-old says he is not the type to sit around “waiting for time to pass” and once he was able to outpace with his university-level hitting partners, he planned one last summer hurrah: Wimbledon, his hometown tournament in Toronto and the US Open.

He wanted to play Queen’s too, but typically his body decided otherwise, a shoulder complaint reminding him why, in all likelihood, this mini-comeback is just delaying the inevitable.

“The one thing I know is that playing tennis since age of nine, you do one thing and you have a very singular objective, focus and passion throughout it,” Raonic says.

“And then the last two years, I got to do a lot of things and I got to find a lot of things I enjoy.

“For me, I’ve always wanted to be able to play and to be able to push. Can I do that? I don’t think so.”

He has sure had some struggles over the last few years and good to see him moving on in life after tennis.

The important part in all of this is that he found things he enjoyed outside of tennis. It’s like retirement for us, in the sense that we all need to find things we enjoy after we finish working in our careers.

Enjoy yourself and hope to see you around at other events in the future.

It's a shame he didn't get to play Queens, if that was his plan... Yet he beat Novak at Wimbledon anyway! Good for him. Hope he gets a win at the other two also.

A somewhat disappointing career. I remember he once said something along the line that it will eventually be their turn to win GS since the Big 3 (or Big 4 at that time) won't play forever. Sigh.
The Raonic/Nishkori/Dimitrov generation is completely lost.

He has only played a total of 610 matches in his career (Singles + Doubles combined) all these younger players retiring shows the abnormality of what the Big 3 were able to do at an advanced age. I mean the lowest number of matches among Big 3 is Novak who's 4 years older, and he's still played ~800 more matches than Milos and is more than fit right now.

Well, can’t say it was always a pleasure, but the ability to get to TBs essentially at will meant I saw a lot of this guy. And I did grow respect for him over time.

Plus he really did maximize all of the gifts he had, a truly hard worker who made big improvements to his technique over the years. He was unlucky with injury and I think could’ve done better in some big moments, but all in all he’s had a very good career. Farewell Rao.

610 is still a lot of matches. Sampras played 982.

Things he enjoys:

Have you seen a pic of his model girlfriend (now wife)? Have you ever been Top 3 in the world at what you do in your profession? Do you have millions in the bank?
Also, as someone mentioned upthread, the guy is smart enough (the child of two engineers) to get a PhD and teach at a Uni if he is so inclined. You and I will continue to be trolls on the interwebs.

The joke is you posting on a tennis forum about a tennis player that has 4 billion x more talent then you. Im willing to bet his forum posting skills are closer to you then you're closer to his tennis skills. Stupid cuck.

Joke's on you for getting this mad at a joke Milosh will never read and never be affected by. Congratulations on supporting players that are better than fans on the internet. I bet your mom is proud
