Raonic will win Wimbledon

Had similar thoughts myself all year.

But the Queen's final sort of sets me back a little. Think over 5 sets Murray will always find a way.

I certainly hope not. We've lost one boring potential champion, so the last thing we need is a champion who is even more boring.

I doubt it's going to happen though. Probably needs Murray and Federer to get knocked out to have a real chance. He's really not that good.

I'm not his biggest fan but McEnroe is one of my favourite players of alltime so I'll be chuffed for him.

If a big server wants to win Wimbledon then they have to be able to return serve well, which is why big servers tend not to win Wimbledon. Raonic has yet to demonstrate his return game has improved significantly enough to win Wimbledon. But maybe McEnroe will help him in that respect with a plan for an aggressive return game.

Even when Novak was still there I thought that Raonic had a great chance. He's gone under the radar and will peak in the 2nd week.
it will be Raonic vs Federer in the semis and I don't think Roger will let this one slip by him. Only way Milos can win that one is if Roger has bad returning day. it is possible but I think by the time semis rolls around you would think Roger would be locked in on those big serves ...........and he is so good a blocking those returns back in play.

and Also if by some miracle , Milos gets by Roger,,, then there will be Andy waiting for him and Andy returns big serves better than anyone....and Andy is better in everything else than Milos....

I can think of one big server who won Wimbledon seven times. A guy like Raonic finds the serving zone and can beat anyone withiut ever breaking serve. I don't really like him, but he does not have to be Mr. modern baseline chaser to win. I think his offense will probably get better, and when it does, he may win several big ones. A guy like that breaks through and realizes he can win.....can make all the difference. But he has to break through first.

Hey, what about Delpo? He is lpoking tough, and menatlly, he is a giant...no doubt. I would not want to play that guy. He was so close to winning several big matches before his wrist issues...tj e mental toughness is there. His game is catching up, and when it does he will be a force again for sure.

I'll say this for him. His hair is not as perfectly groomed as it was last year, and last year I said he needed to mess up his hair a little. Maybe it worked!

Muzzler or any Hacker can wipe Raonicheats false confident character clean

Someone as inconsistent as Berdych and yet to peak Zverev could clean him up as well
Agree, Murray returns serve just too well.... and his experience and confidence will Over Whelm first time finalist Raonic and straight set beat him if he gets there.

Djokovic Chokes players with his return and retrieving while Murray Muzzles them
yet Murray doesnt Muzzle himself enough to maximise his ability.

Milos is a lil like a modern Roscoe Tanner, if conditions stay wet by 2nd weak and balls were actually faster he
would have a chance but his service motion is not a simple concise one and long matches reveal that atm.

I was hoping last year Zverev to be the teen who wins wimby as a teen like Becker but feel
he is just too tall to have good recovery and could eventually be another DelPo, Cilic, Safin etc

Delpo has no BH or is weaker on that side than most players and his slice is open to a net charger on that side, its just a push at best

Would be happy as a Canadian...a new fresh face too.

I just don't see him beating Murray in the final.....or getting past Federer slices.

I understand what you are saying, that is why I specifically pointed out that big servers who are not able to return well do not win Wimbledon.

So, who are the big servers who won Wimbledon?

The chap who you refer to who won Wimbledon seven times, also won 64 tournaments and was number 1 for 286 weeks. That tends to give me the impression he returned serve pretty well. The reason this chap won seven times was because he returned and hit better passing shots and moved better around the court than the other big servers of that era.

Becker: Again, another all court player, not just a big server

Stich: One of the best all round players of the 1990s and should have won more than 17 tournaments, played in finals at the French and US Open as well but didn't like limelight much.

Krajicek: Not as smooth as Stich but played in semis of three out of four majors and won 17 tournaments on all surfaces, like Stich.

Goran: Played in four finals bagging one of them, not quite as talented as the others above but his two hand backhand allowed him to get on top of kicker serves often.

These are the exceptions. Most big servers who do not return well on grass?

Rusedski: For a so called grass court expert never made it to a single Wimbledon semifinal, not even one. How come? I mean, a big serve is enough to win at Wimbledon isn't it?

Wayne Arthurs: Remember him? Big lefty serve, one of the best, did he even make a quarterfinal at Wimbledon?

Marc Rosset: Was setting serving speed records in the early 1990s, don't recall him doing anything at Wimbledon

Alexander Popp: 6ft 7 serving machine from Germany who sounded English, think he had English relatives, made one quarterfinal in 1999 or something like that.

Mark Phillippoussis: Did make one final losing to Federer, other than that Wimbledon record surprisingly not great

Then we have the Karlovics, Myrnis, Giles Muller, Wesley Moody etc etc, the usual suspects who were never contenders.

I have yet to see Raonic play live but from what I have observed, his movement is not good enough, consequently his return is not good enough at this stage to beat the best players in the world. That is what McEnroe will be working on, not trying to win matches by tie breaks.

Del Potro is a contender for Wimbledon if fully fit. Why? Because he can return serve!!

If we want, we can add Andy Roddick, I could argue he was unlucky, he lost all his finals to Federer? If Andy returned better he might have had a better shot. He had his chances in 2004 and 2009.

Yeah I remeber.
If he is fully recovered from last injury he could win it. Played great at AO and I'm sure he would knocked out Murray if he didn't injured himself in that SF

Yugoslavian born. Serbian heritage. Canadian citizen. Lives in Monaco to avoid Canadian (and other) taxes.

Well... I guess he developed/trained in Canada....

He represents Canada....that is all that matters.

UK/France took great talents from us: Mary Pierce....shame could have had our first Singles slam winner...think she spent part of her playing Career as a Canuck and Greg Rudeski( US Open final).

Well, if he is such a mental giant how come he didn't actually win any of those big matches he was so close to winning? The only big match he ever actually won was the 2009 US Open final and his fans have been dining out on that one match ever since!

Milos is my favorite player so I believe this is the best time for him to come through with no Joker, An old Fed, and murray who is a little loony. This is a great time till a more talented younger generation comes through. I think this is the Canadian Rockets year

His game is like his hair, impervious to change. He does the same thing everytime he is losing, more of what is making him lose. Plan b seems to be more gel

I doubt that. Even if he beats Roger Federer, assuming Roger survives Johnson and Cilic, it's very tough for Raonic to beat Murray. Again assuming Raonic and Murray reach final

Not sure about 2009; missed that high volley in set 2 that would have probably propelled him to victory! He blew it in that TB with several set points! Roger didn't deserve that one! :p o_O

And the stats play against Milos as well. Roger Federer is actually 10-0 in Wimbledon Semi-Finals.

But, after Querrey's moment, let's wait until they actually met in there. Federer has Johnson and Cillic, Raonic is yet to pass through Goffin.

Haven't seen Raonic match yet. Is he still playing that no-matter-what-move-that-big-slow-body-way-over-to-the-left-and-try-to-never-ever-hit-a-backhand tennis?

Indeed, we were talking about the high backhand volley last week, the toughest shot in tennis as they used to call it. We were spoiled by the likes of Sampras making a difficult shot look easy (or routine as Pat McEnroe would say). But Roddick is a top professional so it is unexplainable he would miss that shot, modern players just do not put slice on the volley!!!

Delpo slice open to net charger? Are you serious? Who is the net charger in the.modern tennis world? Lopez maybe...other than that, these.guys do not want to be there. Slice away.
