Rate 3 of my serves (twist included)

ohh cool! i didnt think my serve was up there. since i thought 3.5s were pretty hard to get to already. i for sure do not ever dink a serve!

the rest of my strokes will come soon!

Na man 3.0s and 3.5s are low. They look like beginner players. They can barely hit with consistency and usually have unorthodox form. Easy to spot.

Ill find out in may. I play for Santa Rosa Junior College. When you play for the UCLA club team do you get to play on the nice ass courts that they have in the stadium. Those courts are really nice.

cool, good luck with that, maybe i'll see you here.

By the way, there is a difference with the club and the club team, I am just in the club, the club team, you have to try out or be invited to.

and you answer your question, yes, you get to play the the blue and green courts that play really slow and are really nice!

SO the club team do you get to travel. I hear the club team is for all the people who didnt make the actual division 1a team. If so I like my chances at making the club team. Whats the try out like? and how do you get invited? So theres the club team and then the club. What does the club do?

yeah, you get to travel with the club. Anyone is allowed to be in the club, and then within the club, there is a travel team to try out for.

You have to impress the coaches at the open practices and then you might get a chance to get to the closed practices

Hard to tell your level by your serve. I've seen 4.5's with similar serves, but with strong rest of their game. Most likely high 4.0, unless the rest of your game is quite weak, then lower 4.0. Don't know of any 3.5's who can hit that variety on their serve.

Nailed it!

Get your toss up. Good looking serve, though. Modify the motion before contact. You're wasting a lot of effort for not much gain. Economize your motion and raise your toss, and you'll see marked results. But good looking serve as of right now. :)

yeah, i know the PCC ones are gone, they are going to rebuild them on the top of a tech building....im guessing by the end of summer

how often do you play and all? are you a high NTRP player?

They're rebuilding these courts? Well, they were pretty shoddy anyway but I don't see anywhere else they could be putting them. I'd like to play on top of the U building though :)

yeah...i'll try to adjust, since this was 3 years ago, it might have changed but i dont know cuz i havent made a video since

can you tell me which parts are slopping so i can try to clean it up?

and by the way, i am about 5'10 or so give or take an inch... not too sure

what do you mean by reach, will a higher toss allow me to reach higher?
well, you're not so short after all... what I meant by sloppy, and hope you didn't take it the wrong way, is that it isn't very compact, it seems to me that you can hit a great serve and a really bad one any minute. it doesn't look reliable and perhaps a higher toss would help you while trying to reach a little more forward, almost as if you wanted to come to the net, but you don't, or you can, whatever. :)
I'd also try to relax a bit and take more time to get your feet in order before you serve everytime. it'll help you get a more compact serve.... one you can rely on and one that gets you confidence, and what not.

lol, thanks!

I really hope i can get to 4.5 or 5.0 one day, like i have been saying, i will have a video with the rest of my game sometime in my winter break.

variety has always been one of my strenghts with my serves, maybe i can make a video with all of my serves too!

okay, that seems to be the general consensus with getting my toss up or higher.

what should i do to modify the motion before the serve, it is a little different now but maybe i can improve toward that?

yeah they are! PCC is always late on things so it might take a while. Yeah, the old courts there played REALLY fast especially compared to these blue courts here at UCLA, nice and slow!

PCC is actually building a whole new tech building and the plans (last i heard) is to have them on the rooftop of that new building, im excited to try them!

U-building would be fun except with the chem and bio labs right under, something might explode! lol j/k

I didnt take it the wrong way, i am just trying to get better so i want to know these things!

Would a compact swing be better on a serve?

i think for the most part, i control my serve well, but i can see how you think it can go bad since there are so many components to the serve.

as for how reliable my serve is, I would say that i wouldnt double fault more than 3 times a whole set, so its decent i guess. Sometimes i dont double fault for a whole week or two so its pretty okay.

I thoguht that i already reach pretty forward on my serve, should i try for MORE? if you look at the side view one, the ball would land a foot or 2 inside the baseline if i just let it drop and not hit it. Even on the back view, i always step into the court after my serves.

as for my feet, i usually would take more time in sets

thanks for the input! i constantly will try to improve on it!

then, if those are really your stats, you're fine, what looks inconsistant from the outside my be very reliable for you. I think you're doing just fine. whatever works for you.. I've been told since I was a kid to land with the left foot (I'm left-handed) when I serve, that was the old school, but since a little kid I always liked to land on my right foot... look now, most pros land on their oposite foot.. you never know. teachers always gave me a hard time about that, now it is common practice.

Thats is good insight! I am just trying to make it so that i will have the best chance for success on my serves and my game in general.

but as most people say now, my toss is the probably the most problematic part of my serve, and though i never have trouble with a bad toss, it is too low and if it benefits me by tossing it higher, i will try to do so

i just made some new vids with mmyer, they were probably be up soon!

anyway, im coming back to the pasadena area

ALPINE, if you are reading this, when do you wanna hit?

good serves...
i don't know...maybe you should try toss the ball a little bit higher and contact the ball higher
