Rate these players (video included)

I agree with all that say 3.5

They're able to do too many things to be below that.

Footwork and backhands are too bad to be 4.0s

If Peterson and taylor haven't played tennis before, they would get bageled easily by the grey guy or any guy in the 3.0/3.5 range, I don't care how athletic they happen to be.
 
I think the camera angle is a little deceiving. It's positioned like they are playing the US Open or something...this really puts the pro's in perspective. I think these guys are probably better than what we give them credit for.

Grey and white shirt guys....post someting with a different camera angle. No editing....let's get the real skinny on this.

Why is "ksqwqb" trying to rate these players anyway? Isn't he the one who posted the video? For all we know, he is probably the guy in the gray shirt and trying to make himself look good. Sounds like a real ego issue to me.

I totally agree with goober. I went to watch a local 5.0 match and they're much faster than nadal/federer on TV :D

These guys don't play tennis (AFIK). They are the top collegiate
running back prospects from this year's NFL draft. Do you honestly think
that the grey guy runs a 4.4 40? This would mean he is as fast as the
fastest college running backs.

If he's got 4.4 speed he would make Nadal look like he's running on
quicksand.
 
Those both appear to be 3.5s though the one closest to the camera at the beginning looks a bit stronger. Anyone saying below 3.0 is on crack. Maybe in Florida or Southern Callie they are 3.0s but most everywhere else I believe they could play 3.5.

What I think is funny in these threads is to have people who don't even play USTA league weigh in with their opinion.

You're probably right. I guess he's not that fast. But he does look pretty quick sometimes. Any chance of maybe analyzing like you do a serve video where you go frame by frame and measure the distance he covers then calculate his 40 time from that?

He really doesn't that quick to me. He's quicker than the other guy I will say that. Lateral quickeness does not translate to 40 times. I honestly would be very surprised based on his build and the way he moves if he could break 5 seconds in the 40.

I think many of us have taken that into consideration. It's not just the ball speed, it's everything. Their footwork, mechanics, shot placement, that one handed backhand at 28 sec, the way gray shirt guy serves (opens up too soon), his backhand at 1:27, etc. 3.5, maybe weak 4.0.

Compare the video of the 3.5 guys above with these college players, who are probably strong 5.5's to 6.0:

3.5 - not a 4.0 yet IMHO. 3.5 are guys who can play tennis - those guys can play. I mean they don't have real weapons yet but they can hit all the shots reasonably well and have an idea of what they are doing..

4.0 guys IMHO usually start to have one or two superior shots - usually a powerful forehand or a strong serve to go with those kind of skills.

I am a 3.0 but am certain I look alot worse on video. However the guys I play with say I am like 3.5 - they however are optomistic because I have played in a league and I know what a 3.0 is like.

Guys are are 2.5 look like they can't even play tennis in video. People are ridiculous in their ratings around here.

If you're one of the guys in the video, just keep playing. You've got the truly difficult stuff out of the way. In theory, you should just continue to improve. And it gets more fun as you get better. I'm just starting to get my timing back and it's like I'm rediscovering how fun tennis can be.

OK, I'll level with you. I'm mid-thirties, generally untalented, trying one last desperate stab at some form of athletic glory. So c'mon, I gotta build myself up somehow!;)

Now we just gotta figure out which one of you all is the guy in white . . .
 
i'd say these guys are competitive 3.0s, i would have no issues with them playing up to 4.0 in league(s). I would rate them as STRONG 3.5s, but if they are trying to get far in a league, they'd probably be sand bagging a little as 3.0s. These guys can ball, they aren't missing easy sitters, and place them well. They aren't hitting insane winners, but that's not the point.

And I would say these guys are around 3.5--may not look pretty, but they get the job done.

Have you guys notice the grey guy does not have a BH (compare to his FH)? While the white guy has a better BH but a worse FH. I will be a interesting match if it is not a practice match.
 
I dunno about interesting - one thing I notice is that these guys don't approach the net as much as I would. Actually I probably approach too often but I was taught anything that lands in the service box you should try to approach on..

They are probably around 3.0 - 3.5. These players seem to still have the "coach taught form" meaning they haven't really developed their own style of play. Then again, that's just from what I saw.
