rate this guy

Just to add, his serve isnt extremely powerful but there is a unique spin to it that makes it seem like a lefty and a righty serve at the same time; its weird. Also, for you people who think his 2hfh is bad, or just dont like it, it was his weapon. His backhand was good but his forehand was just really good.

I would say that I am a 5.0 but I will put a video on. I just had a video analasys of my all of my strokes and it has been put on a vhs tape. I brought it to a video conversion specialist to convert the tape to dvd, which will be available for me to pick up on Friday. I will then have to figure out how to get it from the dvd onto youtube. My youtube is tennisking321123 but those are all videos from a while ago, I am much better now.

There you have it naysayers, "4.0"-5.0. More so 5.0 it is.

Keep in mind that it was one of the best matches I have played. He was the 5th seed in the tournament for the u18 category, and I was playing both u16 and u18 categories. The quality of the points were just great.

Come on Tony. This guy is no 4.0 technically. Unless he is a head case, he is no 4.0.

Note that he is 17. That was why I included the possibility of being a 4.0. I lean towards 4.5 (and a weak 4.5 - I think he would have a lot of trouble against people who hit with pace, and didn't seem to have any weapons that might help him win, apart from being quick... but this isn't even very helpful considering his limited 2H shots on both wings!)

If he is to be labeled as a 4.5, then it should be at least a strong 4.5. He is really quick but his 2hfh is REALLY strong and flat. It is effective because he takes balls on the rise with this shot most of the time and he makes at least 8/10. I also just won because I am good. :D

Mike: This seems true. He seems to have better footwork than many at his age, and it seems to pay off in consistency. I suppose 4.0 is too low now that I think about it. Even if he did have trouble with many 4.5 players, that doesn't mean he's a 4.0.

I'm just going through and watching him play, and his opponent is either bad, or purposefully not moving him around and giving him pathetically short and easy shots. Only a couple balls are hit near the baseline against him. He looks quite good against these balls, but then, so do local high school players around here. When they get hit deeper shots (even ones that aren't very hard), their games break down and they lose any consistency they had.

Regardless; for a 17 year old, he's good, and he certainly has potential.

It never ceases to amaze me how people throw around the 5.0 rating. Do people realize how good a 5.0 player is? It is a night and day difference from a 4.5 player. A 5.0 player has no cracks in their game. They are solid from everywhere. They have a major weapon or two, but no glaring issues like a 4.5 has.

It's hard to get past his 2-handed forehand but there's no way based on this video that he is a 4.0. You must be joking.

What I meant is that for many people viewing it is difficult to give due credit to his forehand because it is a two-hander.

Not a criticism of the stroke itself.

He got a small issue with the serve. Can be fixed and not take long for him to adjust to the change.

So then he could be a 4.0 now, but higher if he fixed his serve?

You seem to just want to argue when you have admitted he has a problem with his serve.

I think you have me confused with someone else.
1) He is not a 4.0. His serve has nothing to do with it.
2) Someone said his serve was weak. I said it has a small issue that can be easily fixed.
3) No arguing, just asking for technical details why they say 4.0.
4) There is nothing wrong with his 2HF. Years ago the same argument was given about Evert and Borg on the 2HB.

4.0-5.0 actually

But yes, we sure do!

oh man.. if he's a 4.0, then i'm definitely not a 4.0.

I still want to beat him over the head with a racquet though...why oh why a 2hfh? I mean...come on...even young girls or boys can hit a 1hfh. I'd give him a 4.5, but not a 5.0

ok..i commented on his youtube page. anyway, i think you just can't argue the fact that you have less reach with a 1hfh... he'd beat me for sure, though :]

There was a guy in Misissauga, ON that coached many players to 2h fh.
Same like this guy: low racquet and nothing but topspin.

Regards, Predrag

I know this guy.
I BEAT THIS GUY.
6-3 3-6 6-3
I'm only 15.
Go to his profile below and look at the Applewood Tournament. :D

I'm very hesitant to place limitations on a players rating (rather than leaving it open ended), but based on the video in the op (we see points), and this video of a player who has beaten him (assuming this is true), I would say the chances that the player in the op is a 5.0 are slim to none. Same for 4.0. 4.5 seems to be the magic number (although I would imagine he would be at the lower end of the 4.5 level).

how are you liking your grail racquet CAM? do you have any recent vids? I haven't seen you in a long time on these boards... I want to try out the MP version again sometime...

Humm  That is wilsonplayer vid not wilsondude??

My videos are terrible, they were all from several months ago. I will put an update in about a week on youtube

you said you were now a 5.0 player right, wilsondude? I couldn't find them from a search. would love to see your new vids though

what the hell? when did i get thrown into this? I have never beaten nor seen the guy that this thread is about.

just to clarify, wbf - are you calling me a 4.0, 4.5, or 5.0 player? haha

My youtube name is tennisking321123. I would consider myself 4.0/4.5 on the vids, but my game is much better now. The head coach at my club took a video analasys of my complete game from every angle in january, and did the same a few days ago. He put it on a vhs tape, and I need to convert to dvd, so I brought it to a video conversion place to do so. It will be done on Friday, then I will have to figure out how to put it on Youtube.

i wouldn't say 4.5 in the vids, but glad to hear you've improved. looking forward to the analysis vid.

Dude,

Can you also put your video on VIMEO. The quality is so much better.

There is only one MR Wilson

Haha Wilson thats awesome.
Do I have to pay for VIMEO? If it is so much better than why do people use youtube?
It is free. And you can upload one HD video a week for free too.
http://vimeo.com/

YouTube became a household name. It is the best for getting the most viewers; however the quality is not the best. Vimeo is used by video folks to show detail. Use both.

Oh I understand thanks Mike.
hyogen, this person "claims" to be a 4.0.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xB4RLZguN4&feature=related
Even at the level I was at shown in the videos, I would be able to rip that guy apart with my eyes closed..

That guy **IS** a 4.0. He wins USTA leagues/tourneys, and is computer rated 4.0.

Do you play USTA leagues/tourneys????

and I sincerely doubt you could beat him with your eyes closed.

Not literally with my eyes closed, but definately a double bagel. I am not physically built huge and I dont have the biggest shots but I use smart tactics and strategy to win matches. I somehow just pull through to win most of the time which is just what I am good at doing. I am in Canada I dont play USTA. I was going to go to Eddie Herr, Prince Cup and maybe Orange Bowl but I have school that I cant miss so probably next year.

I got the video of my game on dvd. I just found out that I can't upload directly to youtube. I need a program called DVDRip so I can convert the dvd to the correct format for youtube. Is there a cheaper program?

4.5, not 5.0. I really don't see one big weapon in his game. He sometimes can put a short ball forehand away but he needs to be playing against a better player. Volleys need work also.

Try reading this: http://www.romskye.com/share/DvdToAvi.pdf

VirtualDub-MPEG2 is free. This should be all you need.

For Compression of the video, you might want to use this free codec:
http://www.xvid.org/Downloads.15.0.html
Free also

Hope this works for you.

I'd say strong 4.0. He looks young, so it is entirely possible he has now progressed to a 4.5 level. CC
