Yeah, it will miss sometimes. Notice how all of the numbers that add up to 9 are always what it picks. When I say adds up to "9", I mean the end resulting sums.
The system relies on probablity. Most of the time the sums will have two digits that add up to "9" and so most of the time the system should guess correctly if you randomly select a new starting double digit on every new trial. All of the symbols in the crystal ball correspond to the double digits that add up to "9" and the single number "9".``````

Haha, my teacher taught us something a little different, that many of you probably already know:

1. Think of a number from 1 to 10
2. Multiply that number by 9
3. If the number is a 2-digit number, add the digits together
4. Now subtract 5
5. Determine which letter in the alphabet corresponds to the number you ended up with (example: 1=a, 2=b, 3=c,etc.)
6. Think of a country that starts with that letter
7. Remember the last letter of the name of that country
8. Think of the name of an animal that starts with that letter
9. Remember the last letter in the name of that animal
10. Think of the name of a fruit that starts with that letter
***First do the above then read the bottom!

Are you thinking of a Kangaroo in Denmark eating an Orange? A bit freaky, but it only works 98% of the time.

Ok, go back to that page. Don't even bother thinking of a two digit number and adding and subtracting anything! Just pay attention to the symbol that corresponds w/ the #9 and the double digits whose sum = 9 if they were added up together.

You simply found the number that has the symbol, but that doesn't explain how the computer comes up with the solution. It's really simple if you think about it, but you're on the right track.

Every number that is divisible by 9. For example take the number 55. Add up 5 and 5, you get 10. 55-10 = 45. Every 2 digit number subtracted by itself after you add up the 2 digits will give you a number that is divisible by 9. 62/8/54, 97/16/81, 36/9/27, etc.. They simply put the same symbol on every number that is divisible by 9.

You were on the right track, but for some reason, you didn't think that it always led to a number divisible by 9 which you see now that it always does. As Maxwell Smart used to say, missed it by that much.
