"Real #1" of 2013

According to a certain friend of us (TDK), 3-set matches shouldn't count because they are only half of a match. Going by the results of the slams, Djokovic earned more points in the slam events. Is he the real #1? (Note I don't think he is the real #1).

We've had this thread like 3 times already man. There's even one with a poll in which Nadal comfortably leads.

Djokovic won 1 slam.
Nadal won 2 slams.
Nadal beat Djokovic both times they played each other at the slams.

With 1 first round loss and 1 absentia first round loss, the 2 major wins cannot be seen in isolation.

Contrast this with 1 major , 2 finals and 1 semi final.

It is more or less equal.

Masters dont matter when comparing greats.

This has already been discussed...the answer is still no. Djokovic would trade his left nut to take Nadal's season instead of his.

What the OP is saying is that not all Nadal fan logics determine Nadal is the #1. Logic like TDK counter the argument and thus Nole is the #1.

Masters don't matter, especially when the player you hate most has the all time record. :)

Yeah, good logic. I guess we should just duplicate every thread topic 5 or 6 times until every possible outcome has been evenly supported and everyone's happy.

Or, we could have one thread about the topic, and accept that it's as close to consensus as we can get.

If you want to include masters, then we have to count Novak's WTF first, which is valued 150 % at majors.

When it is all and done, it is mainly the majors , WTF that count.
Why not count everything according to the assigned ATP points then?

Plus I don't even know what you are doing supporting Djokovic's cause. I thought you were a Federer fan. What's in it for you? If Djokovic were to successfully deal with Rafa you wouldn't be able to say that even though Fed failed everybody else failed.

I guess at this point it is about stopping Nadal from breaking the slam record, am I right? :)

It is not about Federer or Novak or Nadal.

I see 2013 as a fairly close year, where Novak accomplished a lot and was on the final Sunday in all tournaments.

Cannot say the same about Nadal.

Check your facts again, then.
Nadal was the one reaching the final stages more often than Djokovic.
Other than Wimbledon, he reached the SF of every event he played.

Cannot say the same about Nole.

Nadal played 17 tournaments in 2013 and reached atleast the semifinals in 16 of them, all except Wimbledon.

He has all the most important stats and numbers in his corner. All tennis experts, except the ITF chose him as the best player in 2013.

Federer and Djokovic fans need to stop pushing this agenda on so many internet sites. It's not even funny.

Here, the Wikipedia and now 5555 has even opened a thread about this on MTF but even there, with so many Nadal haters, people disagree with him.

Djokovic had a fantastic season too but Rafa's was clearly better. If I could sign now a paper that says Rafa will win 2 slams in 2014 but lose everywhere else, I would do it.

Djokovic would've taken RG and another US open in a heartbeat and you know it.

You guys didn't understand the premise of this threat. It was simply showing what would happen if we applied TDK logic, and showing furthermore how TDK logic should be disregarded.

3 Masters + WTF + Dubai + Beijing > 5 Masters

Ok I will give you:
0 < Vina Del Mar + Acapulco + the rest of MM points.

However the first two decide who is the best player of 2013 and it is not Nadal. Case closed.

Case closed indeed.

Seriously, why make another post on this unless you are trying to stir the pot. Only bitter Novak fans claim otherwise, along with the ITF based on their criteria.

Absurd to bring this up again.

2013 showed us only two things.....

1. healthy nadal cannot be defeated in grandslam finals......

2. healthy djokovic can be defeated quite regularly in grandslam finals......

That's ridiculous.

Any player if asked would choose 2 grand slams and a 1st round over 1 grand slams and 2 finals.

Points? Are you serious ? Points mean crap especially when you finish number 2 and the other guy number 1

Nadal had an awesome year, no denying that. But Nadal fans make it sound as though Novak was left far behind. That was not the case.

The 4 majors and WTF are the most important. Masters matter for overall points of the year, but it is not important in the scheme of things.

Nadal has 2 majors, 2 first round losses and 1 final.

Novak has 1 major, 1 WTF, 2 finals and 1 semi final.

Cannot see how there is a big difference.

Also don't forget guys, Nadal didn't lose at the AO.
He didn't compete that's different. He had no win there but also no lose there.

He lost only 1 match in grand slams in 2014.

What Nadal didn't do in 2013 doesn't even matter. What Nadal achieved in 2013 is greater than what Djokovic achieved in 2013, and that is what matters.

Why don't you other Rafa fans just let these guys cry alone? Seriously, who cares what time it is in wonderland?

Yes, absences and walkovers are neither official wins nor official losses.
And yes, Rafa lost only in one GS tourney, but Djoko lost in 3 tourneys!

Djokovic has a case of being Real Number 2 only. When Nadal beat Djokovic at the US Open...it decided Number 1 for me.

2 slams beats 1 slam. Had Novak won the US over Rafa but Rafa ended year end Number 1....then OP I would agree with you.

Do you actually think it's questionable who had a better year?

And no Nadal fans are only saying Nadal was the undisputed best of the year.

Are you only supporting ITF?

Masters don't count?

Who do you think had a better year?

This is strange debate anyway. If Novak ended the year as nr.1, this would be a very good debate.

But he didn't. His consistency in majors didn't get him nr.1 ranking, so I don't see how it matters.

I think year end nr.1 is the tie-breaker. Rafa won this, so he should be considered better.
