Realistic goals outside of slams for Djokovic now that his career is winding down

Can’t take anything for granted, so here are some realistic goals Nole can still achieve in the rest of this year and possibly next. Slams excluded here mainly because we already know his goal is as many as possible.

3x Big Title sweep - Nobody’s done it once, Djokovic has done it twice. All he needs is another Monte Carlo and he’s got the three-peat, some record.

Tour finals record holder - He’s tied with Federer at 6 titles apiece. One more and he breaks it. Feasibly he can do it this year.

400 weeks at No.1 - He’s already the undisputed record holder here, but 11 more weeks gets him to 400. He’s guaranteed at least a few more coming up after the US Open, all he has to do is win one match. Doable.

40 Masters - Again he’s already the undisputed record holder of the Masters tourney’s, but 1 more gets him to 40, nice round number. Can probably do it in Paris.

100 titles - He’s at 95. 100 won’t get him the record or anything but would be a nice achievement to get into triple digits for tourney’s won. He can cut the number down really close this year, and next year can smash it.

3x Big Title sweep - tough because of the winds in Monte Carlo masters.

Tour finals record holder - 50/50 chance to do it this year or the next.

400 weeks at No.1 - Probably 420-430 weeks at number one.

40 Masters - 40 in Shanghai, then he stops around 42-43 masters titles.

100 titles - 95 current + additional 3 majors, 3-4 masters, 1 WTF + 2 x 500 s - 105 titles

Total wins to be above 1200 matches is a good goal. Currently he is at 1069 - another 131 matches - basically 3 seasons. If he plays - this is doable

still it doesn't change anything about the evil clown in your username......how about you grow a pair and stop reporting what you don't like to see about your fave player? this is an open forum and not just forum of that serbian......this place is probably not for weak sauces like you, reporting posts is not for men......you decide what you are......

Lol - I haven’t ever reported anything here. I am too liberal and quite less narrow minded unlike some here including the one I am replying to ;)

Ttw has a large number of people who don’t change their opinions based on new info - but I am not one of them.

You getting frustrated after some of your threads / content that you have written gets blocked by mods says more about what you write / feel in a public forum than anyone else. High time to introspect and improve some social behaviour in general. While this is a online forum, such behaviour can be dreadful for your real life. Just a small piece of advice :)

Here is my wishlist for Djokovic at the beginning of 2023 and my current wishlist.
He has achieved the two items that had the highest importance on my wishlist. Just amazing!!!

haven't read everyting, but seeing the title of this thread - in Cincy, there was an interesting stat - his 94th win at the big tournament (Grand Slam, ATP1000 I presume) - maybe he'll try to get to 100?

He said himself - Slams and playing for his country. So, what, Davis Cup, ATP Cup, United Cup, whatever the hell they're called now, and obviously the Olympics next year.

He's not going to not play Wimbledon, but seeing what sort of schedule he has next year will be interesting knowing he will want to be as fresh as possible for Paris.

3 out of 5 complete.I am sure at some point next year he will reach 100.
It's only MC in question

The only thing I believe he needs is a 5th USO. Not because he will equal Fed and Pete but because his finals record there is something I am sure he doesn’t think highly off and needs to be bettered. Don’t care much for OG but I know he is desperate to medal for Serbia.

Yep so he’s achieved the middle 3. 40 at Paris, his win at the tour finals breaks the tie with Roger and makes him undisputed record holder, and he’s guaranteed 409 weeks at No.1 as of right now.

3x big title sweep is still on the cards, not sure how much he’s actually thinking about it but another Monte Carlo wouldn’t hurt.

100 titles is basically confirmed. He’s at 98 now so he’s hitting it.

For now, he’s thinking about Davis Cup and Olympics. I think individually he doesn’t care much for the Olympics but just wants to win the gold for Serbia.

If he could get most titles and matches won, that would awesome for his legacy i think.
Not sure how behind he is on matches won but titles won isn’t a thought for him as of now I don’t think. He may have Roger in his sights, he’s only 5 behind from tying him, but he’s 11 behind Connors. He has to win tournaments, not just slams but has to win masters events and a couple of the 250’s and 500’s to get there.

He might start to play 250/500 at some point :)

He's in a sticky spot for some of the criteria.
Only the Olympics and majors really count towards his legacy (I personally don't count Oly). Unfortunately, this schedule makes FO - Wim - Oly hard to recover. There's a good chance that if he doesn't win 2x Maj and 1- Maj RU he'll not be No.1 as I can't see him playing many M1000. Maybe he can get the YEC. But he is going to struggle holding No.1 playing a reduced schedule and Oly with 0 pt doesn't help his US swing. End of the day if he can get 2 Maj and 1 Oly maybe 1 Master he should be very happy. I think he will go hard or AO as usual, but then take time off with maybe only playing IW until clay and then not even play RO as too close to FO. Just grass practice before Wim and then practise on Clay for Oly. M1000 then USO. Maybe ater that he'll do the remainder M1000 before YEC. but end of the day in my view he should be focusing on Majors, I know we want the Olyp but it isn;t a defining tourney and back to 0 Pt.
The field will get better and he will get older and his reduce schedule will make it harder to maintain his ranking. Having said that as long as he's in the top 4 it won't affect the tourney assuming the new Big 4 develop (Sinner, Rune, Alco, Djoc, Med (2 yrs), and maybe someone else develops. He should only worry about Majors as that will be his defining number. Masters are so important to the tennis calcander but the Big 3 numbers are so big it has deminished their importance. Also removing BO 5 set final didn;t help with prestige.

What are you even talking about?! LOL He already met most of these criteria, imcluding ATP finals/YEC! He already won his 7th so he holds the record now, he is already guaranteed at least 409 weeks as #1, which is already more than just 400, he already won his 40th masters, and he is only 2 titles away from hitting 100, which is like easy peasy! LOL Please pay attention where it was posted! August, 25th! LOL Nobody said anything about 2024 goals, that's different story...

Fifth ao and Wimbledon, he must pursue like a mad dog now.

It's so close. The immortality at 3 slams and ATP finals.

TBH if i were him i would care for anything at this point except for Australia, ironically though in 2024 of all 4 slams likely for him to win if we were to choose just one, it would be exactly AO (aka the one, he needs the least of the four...), he needs 4th FO cuz of 4th career grand slam, 8th Wimbledon to match Federer and 5th USO to match Federer/Sampras/Connors OE while simultaneously improving his final conversion rate step closer to the 50%...but if i had to choose just one i will certainly go with another FO, 4 career slams is just too good man, especially considering, that it would make him and Graf only two people ever to win each slam this many times at least...

Agree but knowing him he's more likely to even tank Wimbledon for the sake of clay lolympics.
If he wins AO and RG before that, he will obviously go all-out for the Golden Slam. If he doesn't win both before he won't really tank anything either, but also obviously the Olympics are the main further season goal then.

The top priorities should be Wimbledon and the USO next year until the end of his career.

If I were Djokovic I would skip the Olympics entirely, but I understand his motivation to play there

Fixed.

Two more Wimbs, two more USOs.

The Oly gold can wait until Los Angeles.

How do you guys know his career is winding down when he just won 90% of his matches in 2023, hardly lost any sets in Slams outside of the Wimbledon final, won 3 Slams, 2 Masters and the ATP Finals to finish YE#1?

I wouldn’t be surprised if I get to see him locally in LA at the 2028 Olympics. He will probably play less small tournaments each year and maybe travel less to the US/Canada/China for Masters tournaments so that he can peak at the other big tournaments just like he did this year.

Simply because "it has to be so at this age". However, people already told that 5 years ago, when his most dominant period at Slams actually STARTED. But as I said in another thread, we are rapidly approaching an era in almost ANY sport where people will rarely talk about age between 20 and 40 in future, because it's all roughly the same then. The decline will be so little that experience will cancel it out until about 40.

And yes, he certainly isn't unlikely to play at the 2028 Olympics. A few weeks ago Zverev said in German TV that Djokovic has told him in private that he plans to play at least 5 more years and is even quite optimistic to remain on a similar level.
