without seeing the video, I bet $5 that OP was referring to the Hawaii guys.
No bet.....

But, once again for the topic starter, the rating system in any country doesn't judge you by the technique of your strokes (if they did that i would be 8+ at least), but by the results in matchplay. In short: win matches, gain ranking and apparently the Hawaii guys won enough matches in their area to gain a 5.0 ranking.

you were spot on with hawaii gusy yeah, ah ok thanks, apologies for forgetting to post the link- sorry haha, but thanks (Y)

Yeah I agree! Rating depends on the location. It's also hard to give ratings based on a video. I prefer give ratings seeing how players play in live action.

We have some 3.5's around here that would put those guys to shame...
Yeah, they are called sandbaggers. 4.0-4.5's who play in 3.5. Personally I don't really see the point in that. 3.5 is a little harsh. I think 4.0 is fair. But also they are in HI, not So Cal or Florida where the competition is much more fierce. According to some posts the guy in white is something like 6-1 or 9-1 in HI 4.5. So of course USTA is going to kick him up to 5.0. Not saying he will be able to compete with CA or FL 5.0's but based on his past record and location, the USTA is labelling him 5.0. Besides I don't know too many 4.0's that would look much better on video than those guys. Personally speaking, it's a humbling experience.

Anyone see the comment on that video, guy in white is OFFICIALLY rated 5.0, you guys might want to reconsider your thoughts. As bad as this tennis looks, guy in white is super consistent, has a decent serve and understands the game very well. While not technically sound or pleasing to watch, his game and competitive results speak for themselves. NTRP as said many times before cannot be judged from a few minutes of video clips, results speak for themselves.

The shorter guy in the white shirt (who posted the video) claims he is a computer rated 5.0 player. He has posted links to his ratings in the past when he was a computer ranked 4.5. You can find his name online if you want to verify it.

You can legitimately critique his form and play, but the rating is probably correct. He clearly isn't a sandbagger.

Some of his other videos about strategy aren't bad.

They are actually not bad. their strokes look a little ugly but they have a lot of spin and good placement. Also good spin serves. still no 5.0, I would rather say 4.0-4.5.
I dont know about the rating, a 5.0 in arizona is different from a 5.0 in texas and from a 5.0 in georgia.

The part that bugs me is the net strap in the video. I would put them at a 3.0 just for not straightening it, its driving my crazy!

USTA ratings are reasonably equal. There is a reason [insert your favorite hyped up tennis location here] does not win every single year.
