Really want to join a leauge !

So im looking to join a leauge, my tennis instructor recommended me to join the league were he gives me lessons, but im 28 yrs old and the majority of the people at the club are between 40-50, by no means am i doubting anyones skills ,im into my second year of playing, is joining this leauge going to make me a better player ? I would prefer to play with in my age group , does anyone here know of a league in the nyc area ? I prefer to play singles !

I don't think there's any leagues in NYC. Do they even get the Internet there?

Don't obsess about the ages. I often play against guys 20 years older than me, and some of them are much better than I am.

I know why you want to play around your own age for social reasons, just don't try to convince yourself you're doing it for competitive reasons.

The only reason to seek out age group competition is either for social reasons or if you dominate older opponents. If you're only into your second year of playing this is unlikely. Tennis clubs tend to have a preponderance of players in that age group because tennis is an expensive sport if played indoors.

I doubt joining a USTA League but I am sure taking lot of lessons and many practices will make you a better player. Manhattan Mixed League about to start. Try out this first and then decide which level is suitable for you next Spring. Good luck.
