"A person I thought was my friend, with whom I worked for years, is doing everything to harm me. I cannot believe people can be like this. I'm very angry about it."
DIr5RwSXUAEQlbz.jpg

"He is deliberately doing this before start of any major tournament. Why ? I don't know what is going on, it is absurd. I can not say anything more on a subject but it is affecting me as a player"
Apparently Patricio Apey - former Zverev's agent, claims he has a contract with Zverev until 2023, so it might be that he is gunning down Zverev's money, and we are talking about millions here.
Another interesting thing Zverev said at his Wimby presser, is that new owner of Washington Open (that Zverev won 2 times in the past) "doesn't like" 22 year old . Zverev will skip Washington Open.

Heard about the manager thing.

Washington Open thing is new to me. Sound really stupid and I guess Washington just isn't willing to pay the appearance fee Zverev demands.

That being said, it makes NO SENSE for Zverev to not play Washington. He needs to play and especially Washington should be a confidence booster. What's he gonna do? Play Hamburg?

Lots of points at stake, no 500 tournament except Hamburg, it can happen...he won some clay tournaments before.

What I have heard from people in the Tennis world is that if Zverev loses that case he is done for. It is a very high amount of money that he simply doesn’t have or that is what is was being told.

Andy Murray doesn't have very high opinion of that agent too, at least from the past. Bad situation for Zverev, don't remember any case so far that agent of a future star had so much bad influence on his career. Coach maybe, but agent ?

This is the dumbest thread I have ever read.

It's little wonder he's playing badly with this garbage going on. As you get older you realise people aren't always what they seem, perhaps he was too naive trusting this agent.

Tennis needs all the young talent it can find and this situation is bad for the sport overall.

The Don King of tennis agents. Making sure Z only gets 1% of his earnings instead of the 3% he was promised. What a snake.

He just signed a very bad contract with this agent and he wanted out because he payed him to much money or something like that . But he had to stay longer with the agency/agent and now they can sue him for that. His legal team just made a bad decision when they signed this contract. Agents can have a very negative impact on a players career because they can **** up their finances and get them into legal problem. This obviously can have an huge impact on you performance on court if you constantly have to worry about a lawsuit which is the case with Zverev. His personal problem interfere with his performance on court and agent really can make you life hell.

Because they have a better overview about you finances than you do and trusting an bad one can lead to so many complications

Yes I can imagine how can he feel right now. 2023 is waaaay too long contract. When you look at Boris Becker and things he is going through, it is really awful public image for any athlete. Even former one. Djokovic had one lousy deal with Sergio Tacchini, but that company decided to break out since they couldn't pay him for his sudden success in 2011. Guess he was arranging those deals pretty well.

Zverev wants 400,000 appearence money and the new owner does not want to pay that. They have a stellar field anyways comprising Tsitsipas, Nishikori, Anderson, Khachanov, Medvedev, Cilic, Monfils, Raonic, FAA and all the American boys.

Zverev said "He likes other players more". Like he isn't getting the same as others ? Big 3 are asking around 1 million for attending such category. Is 400k too much for player like Zverev ?

He will get whatever the market thinks he is worth at this time.. He may think he is worth a million or half million but the organizers may have other ideas. No one comes to visit DC for Zverev, that much i can tell you.

That probably means he didn't want to pay Zverev the appearance fee he wanted.

edit: guess I'm too late

He was asking 400k?

I'm not aware of the prices of the field, but that's more than I'd pay for Zverev, and he's also playing like garbage.

@tennisaddict came up with that number, I suppose it's not far from truth
Imagine you have to pay all those guys that kind of money just to participate... and we are wondering why tournaments "don't have enough" for rewarding those ranked 50+

Heard it was standard to for top 30/40 dudes to all get appearance fees, albeit considerably lower than those amounts.

At this point tennis is weird in that the Big 3 can demand probably 5 times the price of the 4th best player on Tour lol.

What were Zverev's parents doing? Would have thought that given their experience in tennis and with Mischa they would be able to steer Sascha away from this kind of crap.

@Red Rick

The thing is everyone other than Big 3 are fighting for pennies and nickels

The gap in points between Big 3 and next player is 2000 points now . Same as what was in 2008 when Djokovic was 2000 over 4th ranked Ferrer . Tennis has not moved at all in last 12 years

Zverev cannot really demand anything the way he is playing . Last 2 years he was on a upswing but now his path is unclear

It is actually a good time for smaller events . They don’t need to pay much for these players
