Reasons to Make the Swap From Tennis Tutor...

I have come to rely on ball throwing machines for a number of repetition drills for my students, in addition to correcting incorrect muscle memory. After a fairly recent life-altering auto accident, I use them more than ever. I have owned and currently own many Tennis Tutors (TT) over the years including the standard TT, the Pro-lite and the Shotmaker; a large A/C only unit which is stationed on a backyard training court.

I have also been impressed with the helpful staff over the years. However, recently, my main units have been letting me down, sometimes in embarrassing fashion. Issues like intermittent remote control function, ball height & depth fluctuations, etc. Although I'm a relatively technical person and do my own repairs and parts swaps, I recently had the service department examine and test them. They say all is well.

On the contrary, I should, perhaps, send them a video of the machines in use...

Interestingly, in researching online reviews, rating websites never mention the TT in their top 10 lists. Why is this? Can anyone who has experienced TT offer some sound advice or reasons to switch to another machine?

Thanks in advance!

Rating websites are all Amazon affiliates (it's in the fine print) and so they only make money by promoting products offered on Amazon as that gets them a very healthy commission when you click through to buy. I learned this from the spinfireusa.com website (I own their machine). Tennis Tutor does not offer their products on Amazon and neither does Spinfire. Hence both are absent from review websites. So all the review websites are just cut and paste fake reviews of Amazon products posted to try to get you to click through to buy.

Amazing. I used to think reviews were real too.

I’ve owned a handful of TT machines, Silent Partner, and Lobster machines. They’re all similar and can’t say one is significantly better than the others. I’ve just used them for my own use and not for students. My current machine is the Lobster Elite 4.

I recently visited Hilton Head and the resort used the much larger Match Mate machines that were programmable and did amazing things. Some had hydraulic lifts to mimic serves so we could practice service returns too. If I were using them for professional work, I’d go with the Match Mate machines. There’d be no second guessing.

Playmates are typically commercial grade and A/C. They are very reliable, but their only battery powered machine (the Volley) weighs 46 lbs. Since sustaining injuries in a car crash, I bought the TT Pro-lite for it's lighter weight (29lbs). Nowadays, most of my coaching is mobile...
