Recent College Players That Turned Pro

Sandgren soundly defeats Norrie. TS looking good heading into the AO. Norrie need some work on his backhand. otherwise pretty solid. Congrats to both.

Current Ohio State #1 JJ Wolf defeats last years graduating Ohio State #1 Mikael Torpegaard to win the Columbus challenger

JJ Wolf moves comfortably into the top 300 and is the highest ranked enrolled college player a solid 100 spots ahead of Petros Chrysochos

Should be interesting to see how he does this year

JJ wolf seem to have legit power game that might translate ok into the pros. but Petros is not translatable to the pro game, he is kind of generic no power college player

Great match from Bradley Klahn in 1st round. He was the better player against this talented player from S Korea, Chung. but injury caused some problems. Still fought valiantly til the 5th set and almost pulled it off.

Wow. Cressy wins the Cleveland challengers title. I saw him at Newport Beach a week ago and he didn’t look good enough to win a title at the challengers level. Good for him! :)

Deadspin wrote an article highlighting Cressy's excessive grunting. Apparently he "can be heard moaning almost every time he strikes the ball—sometimes both before and during the hit—and howling after every minor triumph".

Even the normally mellow Smyczek snapped and said, “Shut up! Jesus! Go back to frickin’...”

Earlier in the week, a player on an adjacent court, world No. 304 Ulises Blanch kindly requested: “shut up, man!”

Let's see if he continues this court behavior if he starts competing in ATP-level tournaments (I assume he hasn't). If he continues, then TTW can add ABC to ABZ. :)

It isn't as bad or excessive as Sharapova. Albeit, it isn't a super turnon like Sharapova grunt but it isn't that bad. If I was his opponent, I wouldn't complain unless I was losing

He recently began doing this, I've seen matches last year and before that he didn't grunt anything like that.

Gage Brymer is rolling in the Claremont ITF so far! He looked really good in his 2 qualifying wins yesterday and made it into the main draw where he won his first round match easily. Go Gage!

What happened to Mackie Macdonald yesterday ? lost the Dallas final to Mitchell Kruger who is a journeyman. Mackie was winning easily and then 2nd set went to tiebreaker and went sour from there.

McDonald vs Norrie in quarterfinals of Acapulco at 5pm today.

Good result by both. I think both guys will be top 30 by end of the year or close to it

Prajnesh Gunneswaran has made a meteoric rise in the rankings and into the top 100. Won in the first round of Indian Wells tonight.

Remember he was briefly on the Tennessee tennis team several years ago. I guess he decided that college tennis wasn't for him as he left the team pretty swiftly.

JJ Wolf blows away Kwiatkowski 6-1 6-2 in Drummondville
Tremendous effort from JJ-makes it look easy to beat a NCAA champ. JJ will probably be playing former Clemson star Yannick Maden next assuming the #2 seed wins. Lots of former collegians playing this Canadian Challenger-Thai, Aragone, and Altamarino from UVA, Torp and Wolf from OSU, Skander and current player Gojo from Wake, Hiltzik from Illinois who reached QFs last year but lost in 1st rd this year, Redlicki of UCLA, the two Kings (Kevin from GT and Evan from Mich), Cid from South Florida, and current player Roy Smith from Baylor. Sure I missed some of the collegians who graduated more than 3-4 years ago. On center court, Liam Draxl, Kentucky recruit is playing the 8th seed from Australia; Liam kept it close the 1st 2 sets-winning first in TB and losing 2nd set 5-7 but is down 2-4 in 3rd. College players into 3rd round: Wolf, Cid, Redlicki-more to be decided tonight and tomorrow.

Go Kristie Ahn. She beat Ostepanko in Columbia. This is a great win, look for her to break into WTA top 50 soon.
Slow down there Feddie. Ostepanko's game has been nothing short of a dumpster fire for about a year or so. Good win for Ahn, typical loss for Ostepanko as of late.
