Im the guy in the hat.

It was a pity it didnt film the 2nd set (phone ran out of space), we had much longer more competitive rallies then.

Anyway, what do you think? Now i feel like my backhand is the better shot and my fh needs work. One thing in particular is i want to stop fluffing up short balls with my fh. My bh seems to drive harder and deeper, and my fh is natually spinner ... but when it falls short, its a big problem waiting to be attacked.

@j0lly the "circle the ball" idea works great on my bh but for some reason it isnt clicking on my fh. Instead i think "hit the bottom of the ball" and that seems to work better. If i do anything else my consistency goes

    Advice welcome

    Thanks

Groundstrokes, consistency seem to have improved obviously but I don't know how far you can go with that serve. That motion looks totally wrong, mate, fix that bloody thing!

Cool, fun vid, was fun watching the points.

What is your goal in tennis?

Btw get ready for ttw forum experts to analyze your strokes and tell you all the details of how your racquet is tilted 3 degrees too vertical and you should have a more backward angle of the tip and how you are not rotating ur forearm and wrist properly and at the right angle and tilt.

I was only able to watch snippets, but the one thing that stuck out as most odd is the second point in the video.

Why did you run around your forehand to hit a BH against your opponent's ROS? If you went BH inside in with it then at least you could have sent your opponent scrambling to cover the deuce court, but you hit it right back up the middle. Your opponent had plenty of time to get to the ball whilst you unnecessarily pulled yourself out wide.

Dunno what the others think of it, but I found that to be poor shot selection, unless your forehand that day was utterly useless but your backhand was on fire.

I dunno why, lazy footwork maybe? I usually stick to hitting fhs on the fh side and bhs on the bh side.

Hmm maybe 4.5? Usually people who played juniors and have kept playing, or old guys who are really good (and also probably played as juniors)

Not sure what kind of advice to give because not sure if your style is because of your eccentricities or lack of understanding. If I'm gonna be harsh, I'd say focus on being more athletic. Forehand I do think you have that going on for you, backhand will definitely break down against stronger opponents. Serve looks great up until you start your swing then your body kinda goes limp.

I'm being very harsh but I think you potential to be very good only if you start breaking bad habits now. Your technique is almost there, its on the right path yet still needs more work if you know what I mean.

Are you basing that on the point at 4:56? My bh did break down then for a few shots, i think i forgot the technique. Ive been playing around with it a lot for the past few months

Actually i feel like its the otherway around now, my bh is the stronger shot and leeks less errors. Its also faster through the court, whereas my fh is loopier

I agree with you about the serve, ive been putting that off while focusing on the bh. What do you suggest i do to change it? What do you mean by "being more athletic"? Sometimes i feel like maybe i fall back on my fh a bit, which causes me to hit long or have excessive loopiness. Do you mean "more athletic" as in more upright in my core? Stiffer?

I took a quick look at the video, nice hitting mate! I think the only thing that really stood out to me is you don't really make use of your lower body, which makes it look like you are just using arm to power your shots.

Hey mate, nice of you to post out your video.
I'll comment on the serve. You are getting good extension on the trophy position but you end up making contact with the ball leaning to the right, perhaps its a combination of having your grip hand below your shoulder and a low ball toss. You want to keep your grip hand at head height and hit upright with extension but you'll need to toss the ball higher for that.

No, what I meant was general athleticism like fitness, conditioning, etc. Just keep playing man and find opponents who are better than you to play with and you will improve. I think you are one of those people who will improve naturally more you play as opposed to getting specific instructions.

Ah yeah okay. Fitness is one of my strengths actually, im also quite quick. I guess this guy wasnt pushing me to that next gear where i had to run hard. This video was more to film my technique

Go stand next to the doubles alley and drop feed yourself balls in the doubles alley and hit them into the back ΒΌ of the court inside the alley, then after switch sides and do backhands. So basically you are standing on the baseline hitting the ball dead straight to the other baseline keeping the ball in the doubles alley.

See how many out of 20 you can make then keep working on it.

Youre right!! If we look at the first serve in the video as an example, my racauet hand is super low in trophy pose (so is my shoulder for that matter -shouldnt this also be up a lot higher?)

You're dropping the racket actively while it should happen passively as a result of the proper throwing motion. That's the number one issue on your serve. Gotta hold the racket tip up until you start the throw synced with the leg drive.
