Legend
Margaret Court made the final of two mixed doubles events (Aus Open in 65 and 69) that were never played but were actually shared (both teams declared winners). As a result, her actual total of majors is 64, not 62, as is usually and incorrectly stated.

Margaret Court won the Mixed Doubles Grand Slam in 1963 (playing all events with Ken Fletcher) and 1965 (Aus Open with Newcombe, French and Wimbledon with Fletcher, US Open with Stolle). As a result, she is the only player in the history of tennis to have won 3 Grand Slams.

On a side note, Court won 3 of the 4 mixed doubles majors in 1964, losing only in the final of Wimbledon. That means between 1963 and 1965 she was in the final of 12 out of 12 mixed events.

In 14 years of playing the majors (1960-1973) Court played 46 tournaments, made the quarter finals of better in 42 tournaments (91% siccess rate) and won 23 singles titles - a 50% success rate. In comparison, Steffi Graf played 54 tournaments over 17 years, made the quarters of better 42 times (78% success rate) and won 22 singles titles (41% success rate).

Court also managed to win 11 major titles (4 singles) after giving birth to her first child and another 2 after the birth of her second child. People don't consider that significant but I think it's one hell of an achievement.

Navratilova has the ALL-TIME RECORD for most singles titles at 2 of the 5 biggest events in women's tennis. Graf has no ALL-TIME RECORDS at any of the 5 biggest events in women's tennis.

Graf has better balance in her record because she played a more balanced schedule of Grand Slam events and she was the beneficiary of the Monica Seles stabbing.

I don't recall Navratilova needing a fan to stab Evert or Graf in the back with a knife.

Navratilova won an all-time record 9 Wimbledon singles titles without a knife in the back of Evert or Graf.

Navratilova won an all-time record 8 WTA Tour Championships without a knife in the back of Evert or Graf.

Navratilova won an all-time record 167 WTA Tour singles titles without a knife in the back of Evert or Graf.

Navratilova won a record 6 Wimbledon singles titles -- she got to the final round of Wimbledon in 9 consecutive years vs. 3 years in a row for Graf -- she got to the quarters or better in 20 consecutive Wimbledons vs. 10 years in a row for Graf.

Navratilova had a tremendous career with some all-time records at some of the biggest events in the world and in both singles and doubles -- and she accomplished these without a knife in the back of Evert or Graf.

Who did she lose to in 1983 then?

She lost to Kathy Horvath in the fourth round of the French Open during the period in which the Australian Open was the last major of the year, played in December. She went on to win the rest of her matches that season, winning the last three slams of 1983. She won the first three slams of 1984 before losing to Helena Sukova in the semifinals of the 1984 Australian Open. This ended her 74-match winning streak.

Perhaps I'm doing the calculation wrong. When I divide 119 by 13, I end up with 9.15, which I assumed is 91.5%.
*Her last Wimbledon excluded (why the f***?) when she lost to Dulko in the second round.
She was 47 years old and playing for fun. If Graf got out there in her 40s, then it would be fair to include that. The stat that matters is her pre-retirement stat. She retired from singles around 94, and that 2004 Wimbledon was designed to do two things: show that she could win a round or two despite her age and give her practice for her doubles. Her real aim was to collect doubles/mixed titles. She collected three and should have had the French (her partner got injured severely when they were near victory).

You are joking, hopefully ....

For our young readers:

119 wins and 13 losses in 132 matches.
119 divided by 132 is a .902 or 90.2 % winning percentage.
