5 of his 6 WTFs Federer went undefeated against the elite players. Not even Sampras and Lendl came close. I don't think any player can win 5 WTFs without a single loss. Federer indoors is so underrated and one can argue he's the best indoor player.

Thanks for the LONG list, even though there's more streaks that haven't uncovered.

Federer overall achievements is the reason why most people regard him as the greatest.

No worries, your list is quite a short one, just the main records which Roger quite incredibly features very highly in nearly all of them.

The long is really amazing.

I know this is sarcasm , but for fun, here is the list of Feds Wimbledon opponents, he defeated.

Roddick - (3 finals)
Hewitt - 1 time W champion
Nadal - 2 times W champion , 5 time finalist
Sampras - 7 times W champion.
Murray - 1 time W champion, 2-time finalist, olympic grass champion.
Djokovic - 1 time W champion - 2-time finalist.

Great list!

Don't want to be annoying, but I'd like to see something like this of Nadal or Djokovic as well (maybe the latter not yet as he's not done enough now). You always see Federer's records but I've never seen a list like this from Nadal. I'm curious as to what he's done.

It's because he doesn't have the third of Feds records and most of his impressive records are clay related.

And he is more of a peak player, not a streaky player, unless it's clay. He goes dominates, then he disappears for a short time, so he doesn't have that many streak records as Fed, who never skips a major or gets injured or gets upset early, so he has most of the records.

Great list! Hopefully all of them remains unbeaten for loooooong period.

I would love to see Nadal and Nole fans come compile the list of their player's achievements and all the records, same with Sampras , Borg or Connors. There's no player out there that has remotely close to Roger's long list.

We can come up with all of the awards won by an individual player too. Roger also leaves everyone else in the dust.

Nadal's list will look like this:
Leads h2h with Fed.

I guess Rafa doesn't have that many records, but he has one very huge one :).

just kidding. RNadal also has a very impressive resume, but still not close to RFederer IMHO.

He has time. It depends how well will he do post prime. Fed did amazing to hang out with his younger rivals. It also depends if there will be any youngsters of Rafa's and Nole's caliber to contend with Rafa.

But he is not a streaky player, he is more of a peak player. So he won't have that many streak records.

The question is, does he need them, or does he need only a few very great records. Like golden slam, majors record and h2h.

That will be a debate forever. The problem is h2h is sort of a circular record. It only has value if Fed is the goat. So Rafa is the goat because he has a winning h2h vs the goat?

Wrong. Nadal owning Fed doesn't make Rafa the GOAT, just disqualifies Fed...

Federer's so under-appreciated :)
I'd say he is properly appreciated by the general tennis watching public. He is only under appreciated by a small but very noisy group of Nadal fans (far from the entire Rafa fan base) and a small group of Pete Sampras fans.

That is an insane list. Inredible to know that all of that belongs to just one man. Truly one of a kind.

2003 Wimbledon — 2009 French Open Career Grand Slam
Rod Laver, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal

Nadal and Laver have distinctive qualities in achieving all 4. Laver did it all in 1 a calendar year, which is the most impressive IMO. Nadal being the youngest to achieve it is also special.

2003 Wimbledon — 2012 Wimbledon 17 titles Stands alone

2003 Wimbledon — 2012 Wimbledon 24 finals Stands alone

Now these are pretty impressive for an open era stats.

2004 Wimbledon — 2010 Australian Open 23 consecutive semifinals Stands alone
2004 Wimbledon — 2013 French Open 36 consecutive quarterfinals Stands alone

semifinals...quarterfinals...really? I've never seen mediocrity being appreciated so much. Andy Murray was thrashed by people like you when he kept losing in finals and semifinals. All of a sudden, quarterfinals and semifinals are GOAT criterions?

2000 Australian Open — 2013 US Open 56 consecutive appearances Wayne Ferreira

congratulations for the award of the fittest player with a bad back? This one puts him in an exclusive group with another all time great, wayne Ferreira. If someone wins 17 majors with less than 56 appearances, that will make Fed look bad though.

2008 US Open — 2009 Wimbledon Simultaneous holder of Majors on clay, grass and hard court Rafael Nadal

Let it be known that Nadal did this TWICE and Federer once. Plus Nadal did one of his, consecutively, in one calendar year.

2007 US Open $2.4 million earned at one event Stands alone

Didn't djoker and Nadal win more than this when they won their US opens?

1999 French Open — 2012 US Open 5618 games won Stands alone

Is this really worth mentioning? Also, you should update that because today, he has won more than that.

French Open—Wimbledon 2009 Accomplished a "Channel Slam": Winning both tournaments in the same year Rod Laver, Björn Borg, Rafael Nadal

Let it be known that this feat was achieved by Borg and Nadal more than once. Also this is not so impressive as Borg's and Lavers due to surface homogenization. Fed is 4th best at this particular "record".

When I think of Fed, I think of what sets him apart from others:

1. Open era record of winning most majors.
2. Record of spending most weeks at #1
3. Unlike Nadal, Borg or Sampras, Fed is an all time great on ALL surfaces.
4. Arguably the greatest ambassador of tennis
5. A great humanitarian.

What do you mean by #3? How is Federer an all time great on all surfaces unlike Nadal? They've both won slams on every surface right? Or are you including indoor hard?

yeah, I meant Indoors. I know indoors is not a surface, rather a "playing condition".

I should have said: Fed is an all time great on all surfaces and playing conditions..

posting big lists like this makes ye look like a total bender.

he's an all time great. but Nadal has shown he's human. not better than Fed but human. Nadal actually has a better h2h than Fed anyway against all his opponents. I hope Nadal doesn't go on to break your slam record simply cos I want Murray to win more and secondly Djoko who I like too a bit but the list stuff well let's be honest...it's sad.

What do you mean people like you?

I for one was very happy when Andy won the US Open. I like Andy and think he is a great player.

weak era

/thread

It's not "weak" era. It's rather a beginning of new tennis era, one surface era,
so to speak.

So he is setting "first" records of this new tennis era. It will be broken in the future.

It is somewhat meaningless to compare these records to past, especially
70's-90's, where records fluctuated along 4-5 very different surfaces.

Here is Pete's list, Pete is a legend but Roger took so many of his records.

Grand Slam 1995–2000 8 consecutive finals appearances won Stands alone
Grand Slam 1992–2002 11 consecutive years reaching 1+ final Ivan Lendl

I know this is sarcasm , but for fun, here is the list of Feds Wimbledon opponents, he defeated.

Roddick - (3 finals)
Hewitt - 1 time W champion
Nadal - 2 times W champion , 5 time finalist
Sampras - 7 times W champion.
Murray - 1 time W champion, 2-time finalist, olympic grass champion.
Djokovic - 1 time W champion - 2-time finalist.
Yeah, but by the time he defeated them:

Nadal: Not a W champion, on his 2nd final.
Murray: Not a champion, 1st time finalist. No olympic medal (Wimby was 1st)
Djokovic: 1 time W champion, 1-time finalist.

That is like saying Mark Philippoussis didn't face a tough opponent in 2003 as Federer hadn't won a slam at the point.

If you want to play that game. Fed wasn't FO champion till 2009 either.
So, Nadal beat only one RG champion one time.

Would that be so wrong? He wasn't #1 nor a slam champion. His only claim to fame up to that point was beating Sampras at Wimbledon. And winning Hamburg Masters, on clay.

If I was Philippoussis, I would MUCH prefer facing 2003 Federer than 2004, 2005, 2006 or 2007 Federer.
2004-2007 Federer was SCARY good. I mean SCARYLISCIOSULY FREAKING GOOD.
2003, while a great opponent, not so much.

No Grand Slam. That "career gs" is a media invention designed to elevate the careers of latter day players incapable of winning the true Grand Slam--like Federer.

Are you saying Federer never won the true Grand Slam? I didn't know. Thanks for informing me.

I can save you some trouble. Put that in your quote. Fed never won CYGS. You seem to mention this in every thread all the time.

Just put it in your quotes, it will save you hours of typing.

Just trying to help you.

Great list!

Don't want to be annoying, but I'd like to see something like this of Nadal or Djokovic as well (maybe the latter not yet as he's not done enough now). You always see Federer's records but I've never seen a list like this from Nadal. I'm curious as to what he's done.

Theres a 10 character minimum post length on this forum. : )

Yes, Nadal beat only one RG champion one time.
So? what now?

What now? I think that is very important when we talk about the quality of their achievements. Fed on grass had it tougher than Rafa on clay.

I wouldn't say anything, but Rafa fans brought up that silly weak era argument.
Without that, I wouldn't even think about this stuff.

The irony is they were right, only for the wrong player.

Oh, I agree. Even as a Nadal fan. This clay era isn't anything to be proud of. Without Coria, Gaudio, Ferrero and Moya, Federer was the only contender. Then, Nole came along. But that's about it.

This grass era isn't the strongest either, but at least there were some challengers. Clay didn't.

That being said, I think Nadal would've dominated clay on ANY era. He's THAT good. Perhaps not winning 8 RG against Bruguera, Kuerten and Muster, but he'd still be the best one of the bunch.
