this thread has turned into fed bashing, which was certainly not my attention, I want to take an objective look at his career.
Let's try and stay on track.
I'm sorry, I can't help it, I think you mean, "intention"
The Truth said:Yes, I am. Check out his contemporaries who all left at the same time and the newbies he was gifted with. Now throw in all the mind influence of the commentators and voila! What healthy grand slam winners did Federer compete with during his reign?
Safin-knee injury, considered quitting
Hewitt-Chicken pox, never got back to form
Ferrero-See Hewitt
Roddick-Once his serve was exposed no longer a true threat to the field
Guga-surgeries
Haas-three surgeries
Canas-gone for several years due to trumped up charges
Nalbandian-in and out, who previously owned him
the rest of the field are newbies, five to seven years younger than Fed who are/were gaining experience.
Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Berdych, Gasquet, and others.
So who or what was Federer reigning over? A decapitated field. Simple as that
Now, three players are playing good tennis and Fed is in a crisis? Oh wait, mono, and even some of his staunchest fans are jumping ship. Where is the magic in that? I ain't the one smoking, dude!
BeHappy, I have enjoyed reading this thread, as I am very new to tennis and being a fan, I am taking it all in. I am having trouble understanding what real purpose you have to making this thread, though. I know you keep saying you want to 'stick to the issue' or what The Truth wrote, but isn't he sorta bashing Federer? Or making him not out to be the tennis genius that most would award him to be?
Your tone of getting back to the OP, sounds exactly that, like you want to hear 'bashing of Fed' go on. No?

So.... to do that you base the thread on the rantings of one of most notorious fed bashers on this forum? riiight. You got what you wanted.I want to objectively discuss how to assess fed's career and dominance and how it stacks up to all the other G.O.A.T'S.
The Truth made a very good point, all the great players of Fed's generation got injuries and their game suffered.
Gaudio v. Fed (pre 'mental breakdown' lol)- 3-0, 2 of those on clay.Coria and Gaudio to that list as they have both had mental breakdowns.

What were Safin's results like before his knee injury?
What were Nalbandian's injuries?
'Serve being exposed' counts as an injury now re: Roddick?
What the h2h against Haas before his surgeries?
Guga is 5 years older than Fed, not in his generation. Even so the h2h is just 1-2.
Chicken pox ruined Hewitt's career!!?? I thought his wife and child always got the blame for that.
There's no way of knowing where Ferrero's career would be now had he not gotten chicken pox. He could've been challenging for slams....or ended up like Coria.
LMFAO at the inclusion of Canas as a 'great player.'
Gaudio v. Fed (pre 'mental breakdown' lol)- 3-0, 2 of those on clay.
Coria v. Fed (")- 2-0. Both on clay.
So yes, I'm sure Federer never would've made it to FO final if he had to play those two
It's always "bashing" Federer if you don't agree he's God! If you look at the other factors like competition, you're bashing Fed. If you think he's arrogant, you're bashing Fed. If you think he's ugly, you're bashing Fed. Everybody else is free game, but oohhh don't say anything about Federer. Well, so be it. Everyone gets bashed on a tennis board, and those who can't handle it, or want to call names as a last resort shouldn't try to participate. I wouldn't if I knew I couldn't handle the opinions of others. And lastly, The Truth is a woman!
And if you say Federer doesn't have mono, you're bashing!
Well i agree with The Truth on this subject....yes federer has been a very good player but he is certainly not the tennis God.....he had the easiest draw anyone could get at the pacific life open, and he still lost....even after the embarassing loss at AO....u would think he would have been fired up for this one......what i hate is that rafa has to play all these great players on his side of the draw, while fed gets an easy ride and still loses...atleast rafa is losing to good players like joker and tsonga...

Correct me if I am wrong, but does the first post seems to list excuses for why player's are not playing well?
On that basis you make the assertion that Federer competed among a depleted field.
Should he not be commended for not being injured during that time period, and not letting mental or physical turmoil get in the way of winning?
Can you blame Federer for other players lack of stamina and mental toughness?
I have no idea what you're referencing. Since I don't know exactly what you are referring to I couldn't possibly go back and find it amidst these thousands of posts. If indeed you are talking to me. I am not clear on that either.
I will tell you in one line that few others might have said or are perhaps suggesting:
You are a Nadal troll and , hence, have this attitude for Fed.
Now quit bull$hitting.
quit being on Federer's nads dude....

I had no idea that Roger's prime and career were over. I mean, isn't he the defending Wimbledon and US Open champion? Those that write off a great like Roger are just jumping on a bandwagon.
Question for you. Why aren't you guys bashing when you talk about a player other than Fed. You see the hypocrisy? Grow up and understand that everyone has a right to their opinion! Fed Idolator!
^^ fednad = fedtesticle, you know that, right?

Somebody found it difficult to digest the fact when stated bluntly.
Btw, "Nad" in Fednad is for your boy Nadal. You see I like him too and a lot at that. And of course I have spoken against fed trolls too in the past. Point is you would miss those the moment you would see "fed" in the username. Now you Grow Up and you may do so without being in blue font

Wrong gender. Don't do name calling. Never thought it was cute or funny, even when I was a child.
wrong gender? so you're saying you're a female?
just my opinion, but i sorta took this as your tone as kinda patronizing... and i realize you respect everyone's right to their own opinion...but the way you say it kinda sounds condescending. maybe that's not your intent... but then again, maybe you voicing your high standards are more insulting than the lighthearted name calling or trolling that goes around on these boards..
i hope that my lighthearted "bastid -_-" hardly counts as "uncouth" in your book... but who are you to tell me "don't do name calling?". it was you who pointed out the "freedom of speech" just 2 posts above..
i'm not trying to pick a fight...just trying to be blunt
