I will watch it again at some point but not anytime soon. I enjoyed the match when it was on though.

Def stings had understandably for Fed fans that was mighty close.

@Razer how did you feel after this match? Were you a fully fledged Djokovic fan back then or still were a Fed fan? What was your feeling when Fed choked MPs?

There still is not.
There were people who considered Djokovic to be greater on grass before Alcaraz won against him in 2023. Now I see that there is no discussion about this anymore, but if someone will make a thread about who's better on grass between Federer and Djokovic, I doubt that there would be no users arguing in favor of Djokovic.

OF course not, and of course there is a debate to be had, but I think the overwhelming majority would say Fed.

First, when you say grass there is no debate as Fed has twice the titles on grass as Djoker has. So many more match wins and many more finals.

Now, as far a WC goes, its a little closer, but Fed played in 12 finals, 7 in a row, and won 5 in a row. Beat Sampras there too. He also has more WC as of now.

Feds only downside is he has lost to Djoker 3 times in finals, but those were all when Fed was much older, and even then Fed played him insanely close as seen here.

That is also backed up by seeing Carlos the Shepherd do it to Djoker twice in similar scenarios.

I was never a Djokovic fan, was always a Fed fan and a Nadal hater, when it comes to Novak did respect his mental toughness and he stepping up in 2011 to slow down Nadal, beyond that no fanfare for him. I became more neutral from 2021 than I was before.

I remember I had friends and family over that day and couldn’t fully watch it. Checking the score at 40-15 I thought, well this is it. And was waiting for the news that Fed had won. A few minutes passed and I checked again. Couldn’t believe the score

You didn't answer if you felt the same pain like many other Fed fans or not

dark day for tennis that I’d rather not remember. Dark forces at work that day to stop the righteous result from happening. To finish off with the flukey volley djoker made at BP 11-11.

tbh i don't see how there's an argument for Sampras as grass GOAT, as opposed to Wimbledon. think Federer's only competition for grass GOAT is pre-OE greats
Fed is grass goat. Nole has as much argument as Pete.

I don't give a damn about nostalgia addicts. It's their fault.

Everyone forgets that Fed had a makeable pass to serve for the match at 11-11
Federer missed one of the break points by a fraction at 11-11 in the fifth set. Yes, a lot of people forget that Federer had break points at that time, while remembering the championship points at 8-7 in the fifth set.

A lot of people also forget that Djokovic was a break up in the fifth set earlier on.

The truth of the matter is that Federer was the better player for large parts of the 2019 Wimbledon final, but was substandard in the first set tiebreak, and pretty poor in the third and fifth set tiebreaks. Djokovic was below par, but clutch at some important moments, particularly in the tiebreaks and when championship points down.

I recall Djokovic botching a volley that clipped the line. To go with Federer’s “ace” on CP that was called for a let. Dark magic at work.

Same passing shots he made against Nadal in 2018 semi on break points. Nadal should have waited patiently, consistency pays lol

One of the greatest matches in tennis history. Certainly the greatest Winby final.

Yes beating old rival in a 5 setter is greatest match. Djokovic doesn't have big wins to his resume so he needs old rival to fill the void?lol

No such pain like other fed fans....... 2019 wimbledon final was on the same night as the cricket world cup 2019 final between NZ and Eng at that time as wellI rem..... it was a freak loss and felt bad while going to sleep, but it is not like I am whining for days over it....that is not the case.

Nice to know wimbledon finals usually lack something

But this one had so many drawn out rallies and inconsistency from novak.
Im sure there are many other matches both he and federer played better at the same time even if just best of 3

In retrospect seeing how Nadal wasn’t even there on grass aged 37 and Djoker was made to look like he should retire in the Wimbledon 24 F, we need to put a lot more respect on Fed’s actual performance here. As usual year of birth is as much the issue as Fed’s crappy choking

I wonder if Federer still has bad thoughts about this match or if he's forgotten about it.

Federer was older then than Djokovic is now. Outplayed a prime Djokovic and lost 100-99 in the 5th essentially. Gets zero credit

lol
No disagree. W2019 was potentially hugely significant. Djokovic won. 3-0 in finals. Just a bit of a shame that what seemed seismic got upstaged by W2023 and W2024 finals, and Djokovic was actually younger than Federer was in 2019. Such is life in sport, life comes at players fast.

Most professional sportspeople judge their careers after retirement when they were at their physical primes. W2019 for Federer was house money bonus time, no way he would have ever contemplated being in a wimbledon final close to 40.
Who knows without asking him directly, but i would think W2008 is his biggest regret. Had Federer won that match he probably breaks 30 Majors as it could have stopped his confidence being hit thereafter. Not that i think Federer has any huge regrets, he achieved all of his goals years ago. If he does have one though it might be w2008
