Replacement suggestion for Head Prestige Tour Mid?

Hi everyone,

Currently I am getting back into tennis after a few years of hiatus, and so I wanted to ask the community for advice on a potential replacement racquet.

My main racquet has been the Head Prestige Tour Mid with the suspension grip, but I am down to a single working frame and haven't had much luck in obtaining backups in good condition. Before the hiatus, I had gotten a Prestige Youtek Mid but didn't feel it to be a good replacement.

So I was wondering what the community would recommend as a good replacement racquet for Head Prestige Tour Mid with the suspension grip. I am willing to venture out of the Head Prestige lineage if need be.

IG Prestige Mid is the closest out of more recent iterations.

It has a bit more pop and good feeling frame...though it's not going to be feeling quite as sweet as the original tour.


If you want the same sort of smooth-cream feel with mid-plus head, Wilson Ultra Tour is the ticket (with some lead)

If you don't feel like scouring the auction site for old Prestige frames, the Ultra Tour is an interesting option. And maybe the only current frame with the old school feel we love. It will require some lead, for sure.

Yeah been keeping my eye on the auction site for Prestige Tour Mid in good condition, but unfortunately a 4 3/8 grip one seems to be much rarer than ones with 4 1/2 grip......

You won't find the IG Mid at any local retailers at this point. It's two product generations back. Some online places still have some New Old Stock though.

May be sombody can give me an advice... Last half a year I have used a Head Pro Lite Tour 660, leaded up to 330gr strung, which is marvellous raquet, definitly better than Head IG Prestige Pro or Wilson Pro Staff 97S, which I played last time as well. I tried to buy another H Pro Lite Tour 660 but with no success, did not find any. So when I saw a Head Prestige Tour 660 for just €15 in 7/10 condition i decided to grab it. They are very similar, seem to have the same mold. Now I want to change the old grip tape and do not know how: it appears to be covered by Suspension Grip collar, that is the tape is laying under the collar. Any idea how can i change the tape with no braking the collar? Thanks in advance!

Try the VCore Pro 97 330, it's close to the Prestige Mid in terms of plow through, not quite as soft, IMHO it's the best racket to replace classic frames like the Prestige Mid/Mid-plus. The 16 x 19 provides a plush string-bed and also provides a bit more forgiveness and spin.

The other one to try is the VCore Pro 95, however the 95 will need some weight to get similar plow and stability of the Prestige Mid. The VCore Pro 97 330, doesn't need any additional weight.

Thanks, but I have been and I am happy with my Head Pro Lite Tour 660 and, I am sure, will be happy with the Head Prestige Tour 660. I just want to change the grip tape on it....

The collar is more than likely toast. It’s just going to crumble. What i did with mine is form a new collar out of marine epoxy. Wrapped the leather grip all the way up like on modern racquets. Done.

Understood. It seems that the collar was not supposed to be removed. If someone wants to change the grip tape he has to brake it....

I would have been fine 20 years ago probably. But the plastic they used on those suspension collars just rots out.
