im a self-rated 2.5 got bumped to 3.0 first year of play. i play with 3.5s as practice and give 'em hard time, but i dont mind only .5 bump. i still have things to work on like consistency. alot of my 3.0 teammates got bumped up to 3.5, some actually stayed at 2.5 which was kinda sad.

anyone else here get bumped up or down?

Yeah, I got bumped from 3.0 to 3.5.

I already miss 3.0. Man, those were the days. To poach at 3.0, all you had to do was . . . poach. These 3.5s are too crafty for that. Balls are lower over the net and have more angle and are harder to reach. And players don't crumble just because you are poaching.

Maybe I should appeal down? :)

Yes the fun is over now. :) You have met your match.

These people will hit hard and at you if they have to to win a point. :???:

IF they hit softly it will be a well finessed short volley where you can't get it and it will make you look like a fool.

You won't scare them anymore standing close to the net swaying back and forth.

Your hard serves will just be returned with even more pace.

They won't chat too long between games. They will leave abruptly after the match, heading out to their Club for private lessons.

Have fun Cindy!

Benchmarked Man!

3.0 Computer to 3.5 Benchmark. I feel a little added pressure, not to live up to the 3.5, but to that B. I have to show my tourney opponents that I wasn't just a hanger-on, feeding off of the team's scraps.

3.0 to 3.5 - lost my appeal (hey, I'm not saying I had much "appeal" to begin with either!:)) I guess I'll go back to getting my butt kicked all the time...

WHERE ARE CINDY AND TOPAZ WHEN YOU NEED THEM!? SOMEONE IS SAYING BAD THINGS ABOUT 3.0 PLAYERS!!!!! STOP THEM!!!

why do you feel the need to belittle and generalize all 3.0 players like that!?

Are you serious? Is it that hard to understand why Topaz and I have taken exception to certain things said on this board about lower-level players?

Just to be clear, I find it objectionable when people say things about the goals, priorities, desires, or fitness of 3.0 players or dismiss our questions and concerns ("Puh!" You're just a 3.0 so your strings don't matter!"). Like when people suggest 3.0s play hit and giggle tennis, to pick one example. Also bothersome are posts that suggest the lower-level poster is lying if they say they can perform a certain skill. I see no reason to insult people at lower levels by making such assumptions.

To generalize that 3.0 players might lack skills that 3.5s have is not insulting. Higher-rated level players have overall better tennis skills. Everyone knows that.

Hope that helps.

Cindy- I am sorry but you have jumped on people for far less than saying "you can poach whenever you want at 3.0- people there simply can't keep the ball low or wide and if you poach a couple times your opponents will just crumble". Whenever people generalized about the play of 3.0 players you and Topaz would get defensive. I will just continue to be entertained as you get solidified at 3.5 and start to look back at 3.0 matches and start to generalize about play there yourself.

I guess I'm glad I'm entertaining you.

I thought I was pretty clear about what I find objectionable and why. If you have questions about the distinctions I explained in my previous post, I'd be happy to answer them.

In the meantime, here's a real thigh-slapper for ya: 2.5 women tend not to have American Twist serves, so I have an easier time pounding their serves for winners than when I play 4.5 guys.

No she hasn't, in fact, I think Cindy has been much more tolerant and patient of some of the dribble posted here than I have.

The thing is, these generalizations that people posted were *wrong*. As the only two women around here who actually played 3.0, can you blame us for trying to set the record straight, and yes, getting defensive when someone else is telling us our work, hard effort, blood, sweat and tears are not as 'worthy' as someone else who has a different number for a rating? It is a complete crock. You sit back, be entertained, and soon Cindy will be generalizing about players at your rating, because while you were sitting around, she was getting better.
