Respect Federer More - He has had to manufacture motivation for 10 years, whereas Nadal/Djokovic were always motivated by chasing him

Anyone feel like you respect Federer a lot because since 2009 Wimbledon, 10 years ago, he has had to manufacture motivation to keep playing, winning Grand Slams, set records.

At the time, he had won his 15th Grand Slam, and most considered him the undisputed GOAT. At the time, Nadal was injured and had just been defeated at the French Open. He had won 6 Grand Slams at the time. Djokovic had won only one Grand Slam in his career, a year and half earlier.

Sampras got the Grand Slam record in 2000 Wimbledon and was done with the sport a little more than 2 years later.

If he actually enjoys playing tennis as much as he says he does, then there's nothing extra to respect in this regard. He's just out there for the love of the game, no motivation required.

Maybe Fed is still there because of Nadal and Djokovic. They are still there because of him for sure.

says the guy who disappeared from late 2016 to late 2018 because his idol wasn’t winning ? what a fan
Actually only started posting on the player discussion threads last year, prior to that it was only strings and racquets, so nah, you're wrong gurl.

3-0 in Wimby finals vs. Fedski, lick it up.

Federer loves the sport, he loves competing, the traveling, he enjoys it all. Unlike Djokovic who says he only plays to chase the slam record.

Djokovic didn't say that though. Watch the whole interview. Also, let's not pretend that one preference for playing is more "noble" than any other preference.

Federer says he's only playing for the love the game, traveling, etc...but we don't know if deep inside he's also trying to protect his records
Djokovic says he's playing to chase records as well as for the love of the game (he did mention that he also enjoys the game and process)...but we don't know if deep inside he's thinking one way or another

They both can answer the press however they want (esp in this PC-world we live in today), but what they truly think inside is unprovable.

If none of these guys don't want to be the best ever then they shouldn't even be where they are. Don't try to make Fed look like he has some moral high ground because he has been in the lead. 2/10 thread

You mean having 2 beasts in your rearview getting closer isn't enough motivation?

Being chased might be even more motivation than chasing

LOL.. Djokovic was on 1 slam when Fed had 16.

Fed is a senior citizen .

Nadal and Djoker are just following the Fed Bible . It is not an original creation

Hence I say the next alpha male is one who sets 25 majors as a target. Not somebody who struggles and gets to 21

At least Federer had plenty of warning and the guys came along while he was smack in his prime. He had time on his side and a chance to stop them. Poor Sampras lost motivation and retired thinking his record was safe, and it was passed in less than 7 years.

And Djokovic doesn't love the sport? He said just a couple of days ago that's the main reason he still plays, and to surpass records.

Fraud-erer holds 1 M1000 YTD and no slams. Fraud-erer should try harder.

Oh look, MoleFam thinks there is a correlation between "being liked" and "winning tournaments" :-D

Keep that YTD tally going. That will bring you guys some peace.

Since 2008

Djok - 16 Slams
Fraud - 8 Slams

Not only YTD, over a decade now dudedrop, but of course Fed got old at 14 and nothing counts thereafter.

Fraud-erer has never beaten a Wimby champ in the finals of Wimbledon, feasting on the Scud and Roddick when Nole was in the proverbial womb to buffer ones Slam count pales in comparison to the era of Nole.

You know he's dominated everyone including Fraud, stick to your 20 #, that's all you've got.

And where did you think the motivation for winning #15 came from genius? Wasn't he chasing Sampras?

Djokodal is motivation and the only reason Fed is continuing right now. The moment Nadal reached #14 in 2014 or can even make a case for #13 at the end of 2013, Fed was back reaching grand slams finals the very next year with tweaks to his game and onwards trying to win more grand slams to keep Nadal at bay.

The guy didn't change racquets, hire different coaches etc just cuz "muh love of the game"

His motivation has always been Nadal and Djokovic chasing him. Otherwise he had nothing.
