Restring Sync Thread

I've had a nice time with ALU Rough mains @ 49 and Sync 1.25mm crosses at 47. It has a lot of feel and is very consistent. I have a spinner set up with Otoro mains and Wasabi crosses but that's too muted and it's a bit inconsistent. The PS97 v13 has such a distinct feel and this combo really brings the stick to life. Before I was Champions Choice, but in the heat the balls would fly because of the gut. Other poly blends lack real feel and this set up is great for slicing and dicing. You get that little bit of pop you need for defense and volleys. Regular full poly sometimes dies off the strings on less than full strokes. It's just be best for my game and stick. Give it a whirl.

been meaning to ask earlier.... lol

is it normal for Sync to leave white coating on the clamps? thanks.
I have not experienced that. Does it look like the string is getting indented/marked by the clamps at all? Maybe loosen the clamps a little to see if the string will still hold and not rub off? But you've probably already tried that. I'm interested to hear if others have seen Sync rub off on clamps like this because I can understand why this would be a concern.

Got to hit with sync for about 30 minutes. Was supposed to play again but tweaked my ankle, so had to cancel. Very sad about that.

Initial impressions were very good. Nice controlled response, a little firmness but I wouldn't really call it crisp.
Decent spin for a round string
Could be a contender for ALU substitute. Smooth feel, good control, decent spin. This feels a little more direct where some people describe ALU as "gummy," which I think I finally kind of understand.

Looking forward to using again

Had a chance to hit with the Sync today too. If you are looking for an Alu Power substitute- do not hesitate. Control & comfort is in my opinion on the significantly higher level. Serves were pretty similar, I'd say flat serves are better with Alu, slice & kick goes for Sync. In terms of the feel - Alupower wins but my dropshots were suprisingly accurate and considering I tried sync for the first time today, I'm very happy about that fact. As soon as tension maintanance turn to be 2-3 times better as the sources say, I'm not coming back to Alupower ever again.

Well done Restring.

What is the difference between the O-Toro Tour full bed vs Sync in the crosses? Asking @julianokay in particular, but if anyone else has experience please chime in

Has anyone tried sync in the RF01 Pro? I'm going to string mine up tomorrow to try because alu power felt incredible in it and sync is meant to be similar if I'm not wrong?
Interested in hearing your experience.

I like my RF 01 Pros a lot, but looking for a string setup to maximize spin and open up the sweetspot as much as possible, which probably means thinner gauges and lower tension.

Gotta say, it's only been 2 hrs but digging this string so far.

Good control but lively, pretty good spin too. I like the feel it isn't as dampened feeling, or gummy as some people call it, as ALU (assumed competitor), it is more direct and feels like it has a bit more pop.
Great smooth feel in the sweetspot, you really feel the ball coming off the strings.

I'll give the brand [Restring] as a whole credit, I do feel like their strings have good snapback. For me, it's an audible sensation, when you take a really nice cut it feels like you can really hear it snapping back.

Obviously 2 hrs isn't alot of time but very promising start. As with most strings, tension maintenance and playability will be key.

I had been thinking about this for a while about Sync, but I feel like the slickness/slipperiness causes slippage in the crosses at the stringer. What I mean here is that when I get my racquets back the crosses feel like they are 10 or more pounds looser than requested. As a result, the mains don't feel properly supported. I've gotten Sync strung in my racquets by different stringers, tried hybrid setups with Sync, and the experience is always consistent.

There are a few posts in this thread that have discussed stringing crosses tighter, but not many that go too in depth. I would also say that I have a similar experience with Toroline strings. And, in the past, they have recommended stringing crosses higher than normal. My regular tension is 50# for more traditional polys, but I find that the sweet spot for Sync has been 52#/56#.

So, naturally this led me to thinking about if Sync was truly a string that giving more spin through string movement, or if a key variable was that the crosses are just looser off the machine. Anyway, all this to say that I have had a renewed appreciation for this string in my PA98 once I found a tension that worked. The durability and tension maintenance is superb.

i pay attention to country of origin when it comes to strings.
Restring zero is made in South Korea i believe. Which is cool, cause a lot of the new strings are coming out of Taiwan. And there are only so many tennis string factories in each country.

where a lot of other companies are using the same factories and rebrand it.
at this point TW has their own poly, and even private stringers have their own string (Roman Prokes).
also for example, toalson (japan) produces some of prince's strings such as syn gut w/ duraflex. gamma strings are i believe gosen (japan).

If true, that is interesting because alot of the newer start-up string brands from Taiwan feel cheap.
These (restring) feel a little more premium and smooth. I've now used all three and this is a characteristic that I appreciate, particularly as tension loss sets in.

Anyone try a tour sniper/sync hybrid yet? I have a reel of 1.30 tour sniper but typically don’t play with full 1.30 anymore. Was wondering if it was worth trying it out with sync.

Is it me or does Sync make the string bed blah? I feel like it just kind of muffles everything. I dunno. I've only tried it a few times, maybe I need to revisit it with a crisp main.

With dampener.
Sync is a quite good feeling and sounding string without dampener. I can totally see though how it would feel blah with one though. If you have it strung up still and want to do a fun experiment for the thread, pop the dampener next time for a few minutes and see how it feels without. I for one would love to hear your thoughts!

Have to agree with @ChaseS. I found Sync to be a really nice feeling string.
Pretty direct and communicative, good pocketing and a bit of power.
I will say I also noticed the sound, you can hear the snapback.

I playtested it and am working on my full write-up.

Posted in the Restring main thread but I'll drop here too....

The Chairman3's review of Restring Sync

Tennis experience/background: slightly above average 4.0, playing about 7 years, all-court/attacking style

Current string preference(s): I test alot of polys, I do have a current top 5, ask me if in need of inspiration.

What racquet did you use for this playtest? Wilson Blade 18x19

Tension(s) used for playtest? 50lbs

Power/Control of test string?
This was interesting, at first, I thought it had a lot of control and was going to be a substitute for ALU...and then the power came on and I realized it is quite a bit different. By the end, this is close to the middle but leans a bit on the power side. The thing is, part of it actually reminded me of a softer Hawk Touch, alot of power and control in the sweetspot but only if you're taking a good, full cut. The power of Sync was a bit punishing if your swings got too pushy or you didn't properly follow through. Also outside the sweetspot was a little lower powered, which I like. I like the direct feedback which this has. Control is really average for a round poly but it isn't bad, as long as my strokes stayed consistent I could trust the string.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable?):
Credit to Restring, they make some nice feeling strings; Zero isn't my favorite because I prefer softer strings but by no means is it bad. But really they get credit for making less dampened and more direct feeling strings. Great sweetspot feel and a little unforgiving outside the sweetspot to let you know you missed. Sync is no exception, very nice pocketing and a little softer feel. As mentioned, it is pretty direct feeling and pretty obvious if you missed the sweetspot. I see why people hybrid this with Zero or Vivo because it definitely ups the feel and softness. I think this feels better for longer than ALU, even though they're kind of different enough to not be comparable. To me this is something more like original Head Lynx (not tour) but that string had slight better control. This may be more comparable to Hawk Power but less dampened.

Spin?
I go back and forth here, it had plenty of spin but I do think it is more suited to advanced players, overall. After the first 4 hours or so it maintained ample snapback but you did have to take good swings with faster racquet head speed to take advantage. As mentioned in the Power section, the string could be a bit launchy if your swing got a little lazy. But for the almost first half of use it had plenty of spin but as tension loss came on you really needed fast swings. Compared to other round polys, I'd say it's in line, so average spin maybe above average over the entire duration because it keeps good snapback even with tension loss.

Playability duration?
I used this for just above 10 hours and I'd say the power was starting to get a little unpredictable and more than you'd want. It wasn't overly springy but it was harder to generate spin because the ball just took off. I was losing a little confidence when I'd go for small targets and maybe a little tentative on swings which compounded the power problem. The string was maybe 50-60% notched, so I'd say someone who hits more topspin or regularly faces harder hitters could probably break it by the time it's done. But at about 10 hrs of use, that's maybe slightly above average. I generally consider 7-8 hrs as average for poly. The upside is tension loss was pretty linear. I always consider this a positive because usually it translates to a more predictable stringbed response and better playability as the string is losing tension.

Tension Recommendations.
For testing new strings, I always go with my standard tension for my racquet being used, in this case 50lbs. Sync is pretty forgiving so you could go up for more control, which I'd consider and, especially, if I tried the thinner guage. On the other side, I'd say it could feel a little springy if you go lower and the launch angle will definitely be higher. Not sure you gain a ton going lower because the string is already plenty comfy but some people are just used to it. I'd say it works at your normal tension.

List any additional thoughts (optional):
So I don't have a ton to add. I am intrigued because as writing this it occurred to me that maybe this string is similar to Hawk Power but less dampened, better spin, and a little more tension maintenance. I guess silver strings always draw the ALU comparo and I'm guilty as charged there. But yeah, I think Hawk Power is actually a good comp but Sync outshines it in several critical aspects. I also see why this gets thrown around as good in hybrid setups, especially with Zero or Vivo. Zero/Sync is definitely intriguing but I could think of a million permutations of hybrids where Sync would be good. So dealers choice on that.

Thank you Restring for the opportunity to playtest Sync.

How is Sync comfort wise in your PA98 at that tension? I usually string 55/53 in my PA98 but Zero at that tension gave me discomfort.

I find Sync to be one of the most comfortable polys I've used in the PA98, even at 52/56. It's firm in the way that I prefer, but I can't remember it giving me any discomfort even on off-center shots (unlike other polys). But I also found that Sync needed a short "break-in period," otherwise it has a really stiff/harsh feel, especially in the PA.

Good to know! What other polys have you used in the PA and how does Sync compare? Ie poly tour pro, razor code etc

Something is bothering me with Restring sync and need experts to weight in.

I am experiencing poor stability and increased vibrations with restring zero in mains and sync in cross. 17 gauge. Tried stringing at 52/50 and 50/48. Tried on ezone 100 and later on pure strike 98 16/19.

I also see very poor top spin specially compared to hyperg / hyperg soft 16g at 52/50.
I did not have any stability issues with hyperg on the same racket ( pure strike 98)

First I thought it’s the racket but it looks like it’s the strings.
Would like some advice on what’s going on and is there a better cross string to pair with zero while keeping stability and spin

Have you tried a full bed of zero?

What’s your background experience / playing level?

I’m not an expert by any means but the issue could be mechanics related whereas the type of spin could be different i.e. loopy spin or driving spin.

It’s all relative, and you very well may be getting less stability/spin based on your mechanics string for string.

Sometimes I've found that certain strings have a particular stiffness or vibration frequency that just exacerbate the frames vibrations. Changed strings and it went away.

Not related to playing mechanics as I was able to confirm the lack of stability with other players using it. And I am not having same issues with 16G hyperg

I am a 4.0

Not yet but I’m trying to understand is this sync specific or gauge specific issue 16 vs 17
Maybe could be gauge specific like I personally don't like 17 as it feels quite trampoline feeling to me and less control.

Currently ordered restring sync to try in a full bed to see if its playability duration is pretty good as I currently use hawk touch 1.30 at 54 lb so I plan to probably to do restring sync 1.30 at 56 lbs.

I have been using a PA100 with RPM Blast for the past 7 years. Now I switched to the new Tecnifibre T-Fight 305S. Big change, but it is a really nice frame. Unfortunately RPM Blast was for me not a good match up in this racket. I have been searching for the perfect match. So far I have tried: Solinco Mach-10, Tecnifibre Razor Code Soft (White), Luxilon Element and Head Lynx Tour. From these I think I liked Lynx Tour the most, although it was somewhat stiff in the T-Fight. I prefer a full bed over hybrid, so I am currenly looking for the best setup for this racket and my playstyle.

I have now had one racket strung with a full bed of Synch and the other with a full bed of Zero to see how they perform. Both are around 330 gram with a swingweight of 325.
I read various opinions en experiences of these strings and how they perform and of course everything is subjective. I think that same string can perform different in different rackets (t-fight vs PA for example) and the same goes for play style.

I will share my findings once I have tested them.

Planning to buy a 1.25 200m reel of Sync - going to put it in all of my RF's and Pro Staffs 97's / X's during the wetter season. Gut is fraying bad.
6 euros + 10 labour per string job. The economics of it are great too.

And if you like shaped strings you may as well try Vivo as well.
Vivo has pretty good bite and snapback like Zero, but a bit more pop and more comfort.

I like Vivo a lot. Had it strung a few times in a Diadem Axis 100 which is probably more similar to the PA100. I thought it played comfortably, but I did a multi cross - not full bed. But yeah, volleys felt amazing and my slice serve has never been so gross. Like multiple aces on 2nd serves gross. May end up going back to Vivo, but I'm trying out Slap right now. IME, Vivo felt great for the first 6 hours or so. After that it stiffened up a bit and playability dropped off somewhat. Slice backhands started sailing more, volleys less punchy, etc. Since I had it as part of a hybrid with multi, I can't say for sure if that was a result of the Vivo getting played out or the multi's coating coming off and fraying, etc. It does fray up the multi starting at around 4 hours of hitting, and after 6-8 hours the string bed is full of yellow fuzz stuck to the frayed multi.

I tried Sync as mains in a similar hybrid and it was fine, but launch was a little too low for my liking, and I couldn't get as much spin on my serves. And even though its round, it still tore through the multi crosses in almost the same amount of time as the shaped strings. I also tried Sync as a cross with Slap in the mains and that has played really well. But next time I might have it strung 3-5# lower in tension than with my poly/multi setup bc it did start to bother my elbow a bit, especially when hitting those pressure-less balls at the indoor facility I play at each week. Felt pretty good with Wilson US Open balls though, especially when the balls were fresh.

Vivo is lovely string with great balance power/control and predictability for first 4-5hrs. Gets wild and looses that predicability after. Slap is so good and lasts a while, more control oriented than Vivo. I'd like to try it at a slightly lower tension.

What has been a nice main combo for you with Sync as cross? I like Sync as a cross for Pure Rush and want to try it with O-toro. Would like to know what else works?

Agreed with your assessment of how Vivo changes. It's amazing for that first bit through. I've only tried Sync as a cross with Slap. And it was really nice. Only played with it for about 2.5-3 hours so far. Tension was 50/48. Next time I'd go 2-3 lbs lower for each to try and get some more comfort. I'm hoping Slap retains its playability a little longer than Vivo, so I can save some $ on restringing.

Is anyone else still experiencing shredding issues with Sync? Used as a cross, it shreds and pops in 5-6 hours for me. Is it a batch issue or nature of the string?
