Restring Sync Thread

Maybe they use the same composition of Tourna Big hitter silver 7 , just extrude it round
No. Tourna is made in Germany and Sync in South Korea, by two different OEMs, who I very much doubt are sourcing from the same contract-engineering firm. Beyond that, the finishing processes are likely very different, with BHS7T being heat-treated, giving it its brittle-ness, that Sync just simply doesn't have. Two very different feeling strings, irrespective of shape.

I think tk tennis also had early breakage in his review. No one else mentioned this though. Perhaps a frw bad batches?
I’ve had this happen once out of like 2 reels worth plus probably 20 sets. Could’ve been that I kinked the string tbh, though I’ve kinked Sync before without issue.

I've used Sync as a cross with Lynx Tour and Zero pretty extensively over the last few months and I've had no issues with Sync and I hit a fairly heavy ball

I am using Sync full-bed now (50lbs) on my Blade v9 100. Fairly comfortable but spin is average. I do like Lynx Tour though, but using the string full-bed can be quite taxing on the arm in the long run. Based on your experience:

1. How do you find the spin when you cross Lynx Tour with Sync?

2. And is it more comfortable on the arm (considering Lynx Tour's stiffness)?

1) Spin is great. No complaints. I honestly don't notice much of a spin difference between this hybrid and a full bed of Lynx tour.
2) Definitley more comfortable than a full bed of Lynx Tour. A full bed of Lynx Tour has never bothered me from a comfort standpoint but I now prefer this hybrid.

It seems like most people are using this as a cross string. How is it in a full bed?
It's great either way but it's a popular cross because it enables good movement on the mains, allowing you to opt for a shaped main string to get that extra bite.

I WANT to love Sync, but it just broke on me again in 2 hours. My 4 string jobs with Sync have now lasted:
- 5 minutes
- 5 minutes
- pretty decent 10 hours (and then the main string broke, not the Sync)
- 2 hours

This latest one was Max Power 17g x Sync 17g (50 lbs). I played one doubles match for 1:45, and then my Sync broke less than 15 minutes into my next singles session. I don't think I've really ever broken a cross-string before Sync - nearly 100% of my string breaks have been mains.
Can you upload pics of how it breaks? I wonder if that would indicate anything. If that is happening from the same reel, then we can still figure it's a defective reel. I'm pretty sure ReString would swap it out if you can show break images or share the story. Maybe they can send a replacement set for you to try just to see if your results are different and go from there.

Any o-toro tour / sync hybrid users?
I've tried o-toro tour/sync hybrid. honestly wasn't super impressed by o-toro tour as it continues to have a muted feel like most toroline strings. playability is still quite good. I'd still prefer like lynx tour/sync hybrid for similar playability but with a more crisp feel than otoro tour. Because sync itself has good durability, maintenance, and slickness, honestly putting it in the cross significantly increases the longevity of any main string. If you know you want a stiff, controlled, muted string, then go for otoro tour. If you're looking for more power or spin or crispness, then you should try out other mains.

agree its more crisp than regular otoro. I still think caviar is the most crisp from toroline's offering and they've told me that as well. would not be a bad idea to try out caviar/sync. would be a very control oriented setup.

I am currently using a full bed of o-toro tour which performs great but i want to bring out more crispness in the string bed which i hope sync will do. Do you think this would help?

Not really. Sync is part-way between crisp and muted, in a similar way that the O-Toro silo is. If you really want a more crisp feel, you'll need a crispier cross than Sync. I would look at the likes of MSV Bussard or Head Hawk White or Silver. Then drop your refence tension by about 5-10%, to account for the stiffer cross.

Might be a stupid question but how do I upload here. Do I need to go put the image on imgur or something?

How would you compare Sync to Wasabi X when used as a cross string?

Consider mentioning which gauge of Sync (1.20, 1.25) you're referring to. Wasabi X only appears to be available in 1.23.

I see more mentions of Sync than Wasabi X on the forum, but I like that one can get a half reel of WasX for 60USD shipped from Toroline with ever present 20% off codes. Curious how performance and longevity compared.

I emailed them to try to order a reel
Nice. I emailed them to see if they'd sell lower quantities but haven't heard back from them, but it's only been a couple days.

I have observed that they package Blade M-1 in their hybrid sets for use as a cross sting, which sounds sync like.

On the other hand, Blade M-1 has been out since at least 2020, judging by the following posts. So predates sync. It's possible Restring just rebrands it. But it could be a different formulation or have a prestretch added.

Following up on @TropicalFruit's post regarding Sync durability. This is only my third string job with it (as a cross only so far), in this case for Toalson Asterista Armored 1.30 mains (an 8-sided syn-gut), I got the following shredding/delamination occurring just outside of center on the 9th cross up from the bottom (on a 2017 Revo CZ 98D) after only 1 hour or so on the bed (click to enlarge):

7dVOESF.jpeg

As you can see, the string peeled a bit like string cheese. The string bed is still playing fine enough, but just a bit disconcerting, considering I was only 1 hour in, and the mains, by far the softer of the two, shouldn't really be imparting much wear. Or at least one wouldn't think so...

Anyone else see anything like this happening with Sync?

Super bizarre considering it’s in a hybrid with a synthetic gut. I’m not familiar with Toalson, is it pretty stiff relative to Sync? I’m shocked an 8-sided synthetic gut could do that to a string like sync

Yeah very weird. TAA isn't that firm and its surface hardness isn't all that much harder than a typical jacketed multi, such as Multifeel Black, etc. The "edges" are also not that pronounced, definitely not enough that I would think they'd end up shaving a poly to any real degree...

Weird. Tbf, confidential shears like that on me so I’ve seen it before, but in confidential’s case it doesn’t look like that until it breaks. Once it breaks it looks a bit like that. I don’t have enough experience using sync to comment much, but these newer strings rely so much on the coating that I wonder if when there’s a manufacturing error and the material’s missing that slickness, they become extremely soft and so susceptible to breaking. Just a theory, probably full of it, who knows

You might be onto something there. Will be interested to see how often this comes up. I have a few more sets of it left. Will report my overall findings in the new few weeks.

I've seen this happen with Zero and Sync. I think it's a quality batch thing? That or a string finds a way to sneak under the material and start lifting it away. I've strung this many times and have only seen it happen maybe a couple times over the last 2 years.

They have been unresponsive so far to website contact page and emails. I'll probably try calling them in Korea at some point, if I can remember when Korea is awake.

This unresponsiveness kinda leads me to believe a little more that this is Sync. Since Sync is out of stock everywhere, I suspect the shop might be focused on meeting the backorder demand.

Will an OEM supplier risk losing their large scale buyer to sell single reels to a country that is not really a market for them anyway?

Maybe not… but I guess that would be more evidence that it is Sync. Unless that M-1 is being sold as something else. I can’t seem to find anyone who sells KCedar brand strings.

I'm not sure if they ship to USA but the conversion is about $91 USD/Reel.

I'm getting a different error message now, but still a dead end.

If sync is identical to Blade M-1, it wouldn't surprise me that Restring people are watching this thread and made a request to K-Cedar not to send Blade M-1 to the states. And as newbig3 mentioned, Restring is probably a large enough customer to have some sway.

That said, if Sync is sold out, and Blade M-1 is unobtainable, how does Toroline Wasabi X do filling in for Sync?

I admittedly haven't read through the last few pages, but I just went to order more Sync and noticed it's completely sold out . Any word on a restock? It has been my favorite string recently.

What is a good alternative in the meantime? Just pony up for Alu?

It's been sold out for a while, there's a note on the website that they're restocking on June 15.

You should take under cosinderation to find a better stringer, or at least review grommets of your racquets, as sometimes some sharp piece out these cause a breaking strings. I do string job with using Sync as a cross - either 1,20 and 1,25 - and they have never broke same as you described. Mostly they are in use by good intermmediate amatours for weeks or even months with no issue.

I've had Sync 1.25 in my GT98 (50#) for about 8-9 hours, PA98 (50#) for about 5-6 hours, and Blade Pro 16m (gut / Sync hybrid, 55#/52#) for a couple hours. I was underwhelmed from the overall experience, the string went through 3 phases for me.

Freshly strung (first hit 24-48 hours after stringing)

Sync started out a lot stiffer than I expected, and it had a very unpleasant metallic (not plasticky like Zero) tinny or brassy sound. It sapped the feel out of the GT98 and made the PA98 sometimes jarring on contact. It was also extremely underpowered, maybe the least power of any poly I've ever tried. This was most evident in serves, where I felt like they lacked the explosiveness I normally had. No complaints about it as a cross in a gut hybrid. It was the first time in a while using Wilson Natural Gut and this tension, but the experience was what I anticipated.

Hours 2-6 (or the next day)

The strings seemed to settle and soften up the string bed. There wasn't anything to figure out with the GT98 compared to freshly strung Sync. Some of (not all) the explosiveness on my serve and 2hbh were restored and I had no problems in match play. It was more complimentary for the PA98, a better mix for a more powerful racquet. No jarring feel. I had just got back from playing a couple matches with the Aero, which puts Sync at the 5-6 hour mark, and it's still holding up. One thing about Sync, it definitely does not lack spin.

6+ hours

In the GT98, tension fell off a cliff, but not in the typical way that strings will bag out. Very little resistance when moving them with my fingers, but they do straighten out on their own. They still have feel and predictability once I adjusted, but comparing to the PA98, right now, tension is night and day different.

-----

My original goal was to find a replacement for Hawk Touch in the GT98 and RPM Rough in the PA98. I was getting 8-12 hours out of RPM Rough before it goes dead, but I've had to cut it out after 3-4 hours the past 3 times. I've only started using Hawk Touch lately, but I love this string - great feel, comfort, pocketing, & lively. However, it also did not last that long. It could very well have something to do w/ the heat and humidity lately that is messing with my string bed.

@jlouie - IMHO, if you're looking for a replacement for Hawk Touch, I'm not sure Sync is going to be the best choice. It's noticeably softer, a bit more vague and less physically stable over time. Instead, I would look at the likes of:
- Kirschbaum Max Power White (a bit more soft/supple than regular Grey) - May offer a bit more physical and tension stability over time than Hawk Touch.
- MSV Bussard - Definitely on the more firm side, but could be great at lower tension, also an especially great cross to gut mains.

Here's the RacketPedia overview of HT, Sync, MP White and Bussard. And yes, I'm aware that lab figures do not always translate to real-life performance, but they give a pretty good general idea (click to enlarge):

I'll check these out. Tbh, I wasn't looking for a direct Hawk Touch replacement, just a round poly that wasn't too stiff but had longer playability. It was the first string I used in the GT98, and I happened to really like it so I stuck with it for a few rounds. 4G Soft is actually a favorite I used in my Speed MP. It might be the string I go back to, but I had been curious about Sync for a while now and wanted to sample others since I was finished w/ my reel.

@jlouie - Gotcha. Well, aside from stringing softer strings at mid-tension, you could also try stringing the slightly firmer/beefier stuff at lower tension, which is also a longevity boost, usually.

Thanks for this @Trip is there a similiar comparison you can pull up for restring sync, msv swift, ghost wire, and wasabi-x?
Unfortunately, RP doesn't have any Tru Pro (Tier One) string data, nor do they have Wasabi-X (they have plenty of other Toroline poly's, but not Was-X, for whatever reason). Short of that, here's both gauges of Sync and both gauges of Swift White (click to enlarge):

60654cbc1fc6489606cb54f3f5162f0c.png

Those numbers tend to corroborate with my experience, having playing Sync and Swift White in both gauges now. Sync is a little bit more slick, so snapback-based-spin is a bit better; Swift is a hair softer, more comfortable, pockets deeper and dwells longer per unit tension, also a bit more physically stable, and ever-so-slightly more powerful.

That's interesting that according to RP, Sync 1.25 has more snapback than Sync 1.20
