Does anyone know who was the last to retire in the final of a GS (before Henin)? What about the men's side?

oops. sorry.

Twice in the open era. I remember the Lendl/Edberg match. Stefan pulled an abdominal muscle. With that kick serve action of his, it must have really hurt him to have kept playing.

If I was playing Edberg, I wouldn't mind him calling the lines even if it was for a slam title and a million dollars. I have faith and confidence in that guy. He is the definition of sportsmanship.

If he quit that match against Lendl, I am 100% positive he was hurting bad.
