ok i give up with this racquet. i used to think Prostaff Classic 6.1 was the greatest racquet ever back in high school, about 10 yrs ago. after a decade of virtually stopping tennis, i recently started again. i got back into tennis with a hyper pro staff surge 5.1, but ended up cracking that. and then out of nostalgia, i bought 2 Prostaff Classic racquets and i cannot handle it like i used to as a teenager. they are too heavy, too stiff, and have no power! they take a toll on my arm and shoulder. i think buying them was a big mistake...
in hindsight, i think surge was just the right racquet for me. it was light enough, had the right blend of power and control. i think this is the racquet for me at this stage of my development (3.5). however, these are not made anymore and are replaced with the very expensive nCode surges.
my question is, are the new nCode surges worth the extra money? one can find the old surge for 1/2 the price of the new surges. would i be a fool to buy into the nCode hype? is the new surge THAT much better than the old surge?
also, although i have been a wilson user all my life, many people are recommending the babolat pure drive team racquets. these are also pricey, especially the new cortex ones. how do these compare to the surge and the classic? on the surge page, it lists the pure drive as a similar racquet. i kinda want to try out the babolat, but what makes these racquets distinct and special over wilsons? would i be a fool to buy into the roddick hype?
please help me choose the right racquet. im mostly a baseliner, and i use all sorts of shots. i slice a lot as well and use a 2 handed backhand. my forehand at the moment is a little inconsistent and lack the power. im not a big guy, about 5'7" and 140lbs.
also, if anyone can chime in, what is a reasonable amount of money i can expect for 2 prostaff classic racquets? in almost new condition, can i expect about the amount it would cost me to get one of them new racquets i mentioned above?
thanks in advance.
