I have noticed that several other people had posted reviews of ball machines so I thought I'd join in. This past winter I started researching balls machines on the web and I called the different manufacturers with questions I had. By April I was ready to make my purchase, I ordered a SAM SP-1 for $899 (free shipping) from a dealer on ****. My reasons for ordering the SAM were twofold. First, I had to have a machine with top/back spin capabilities. Second I wanted to spend as little as possible (student budget).
I'm glad to say that the SP-1 has been a trouble free workhorse in 4 plus months of use. The only problem I have had was the charger gave me an error light one day. Five minutes on the phone with a SAM tech guy solved the problem. The SP-1 is easy to set up, easy to use. It throws harder than I need (4.5 player) and it holds a ton of balls. It also creates gobs of spin if so desired.
I can only think of two negatives. The first is the weight, it is not the lightest machine on the market. The flip side of that is the casing and hopper are very thick and seem unbreakable. My friend has a Tutor and his hopper is a joke in comparison. The second is that you need a special attachment to throw lobs. It is $30 and it does produce a 40 ft lob, I just feel it should have been included. Overall I am very happy with the machine and would highly recommend it.
