Review of the Wilson Ksix One 95 18*20 CLASSIC paintjob

There are modern racquets equally stiff, check the Head Speed pro, the Babolat Roddick and Aeropro GT, Prince Exo Black...
I keep reading here that old school racquets had more feel...

mmaster

some older racquets probably had more feel but i don't think that was due to it being flexible. i don't think flexible and feel go together hand in hand. if a racquet is very flexible, it probably takes away from the "feel", although strings is a factor too.

the psc had it all, feel, control and power. its great no matter what game you play, it doesnt matter if you playing serve and volley or claycourt tennis.

I cant think of one single "new" frame that does everything as well as psc. its got a unique feel to it, very hard to explain but it simply crushes the ball. one of the first midplus frames made and still the best out there.
you can find frames just as stiff but not nearly as comfortable and rocksolid, never had any elbow or shoulder problems at all with it.

i agree with you for the most part, but after about 17 yrs since i first started with PSCs, i now wouldn't mind something a little ligther, little more flexible, and with a larger sweetspot.

how can you be so sure thats its a psc with pj? I dont see any proof just because it says classic on the inside of the throat..

I have played psc since 92 and the ones you got doesnt sound like the real psc to me, sorry to tell you.
If the store told you the got two versions of this frame and you got the flexier one, then Im pretty sure you didnt get the real psc:(

psc 18x20 is a nice and rocksolid stick, but I prefer the 16x18, by far the best frame ever made if you ask me:)
That's what they said from the store. Probably that was what they were told from Wilson...
They were told that Classic means classic racquet and classic feel which mean flexier frame...
So they have for Tour players a range that is flexier and a range that is stiffer... maybe one for the old school players and the other for the modern one...
Last year I was lucky to pick up a couple of 'Classics' with Hyper paint jobs, then just recently got some 'classics' with ncode PJs. These sticks were 2nd hand and I was told they were a pro player's sticks. (Nobody famous.) All that I cared about was getting my hand on cool pjs of my fave stick tbh at a fair price.

Before this, my most used racquets were a Pro Staff Classic 6.1 18x20 and a Hyper 6.1 18x20, so I got used to how they felt.

I've been playing with the classics in Hyper clothing for about 6 months, and as far as I'm concerned the PJs I use are equivalent to the original Pro Staff Classic 6.1. I haven't strung up the nCode 'Classics yet,' but expect them to be the same. There are descrepancies between the weights and balance so I will have some work to do in matching them closely.

FWIW, my original PS 6.1 was white buttcap, all the other sticks are all black buttcap China sticks.

I did mull over buying a couple of the K Six One Classics around Xmas when I saw them on the site, but tbh I have no need for this many racquets anyway, it's an addiction that needs curbing. Right now I have:

2x Classic with Hyper PJ 16x18
1 x Classic with Hyper PJ 18x20
3x Classic with nCode PJ 18x20 as well as my normal original versions. I just love those 6.1s!

Does anyone know what the pro stocks actually are? I got a few of the 16x18 tour stocks and I know they aren't regular k95's, other than that I don't know what is under the paint. The butt cap is the red box style like you got on ncode wilsons, grip is black synthetic and there is no hologram sticker (no its not a fake!). Without a standard one to compare it with its hard to say though.

Have you weighed them and check the unstrung balance?
I was told by the store that these are stiffer frames destined for tennis players...

Out of curiosity, how do they play?

Both all weigh dead on 11.8/335, I haven't strung them up yet sorry

I would add that if you think there is any chance you will resell them at some time, you should keep the receipt to prove they are genuine from a reputable store because people could be fussy with the differences and lack of hologram!

If they weigh 335 and the balance point is like the K Six One I think you have a K Six One 95 there that is a bit stiffer destined for athletes...

Have anyone else got their K6.1 Classic yet??

I strung one up with a Lux Adrenaline yesterday and had a hit, but this Adrenaline string was,, well, i don´t really know what to say. It felt cheap actually. Nowhere near the feel of Alu Power.

I tried 52 lbs this time, but it´s still to loose in this racket. I think a 55 lbs with Alu Power will be nice.
Good thing is though that I have felt nothing at all in my elbow when playing this racket. The original K6,1 95 was realy killing my elbow and this Classic version makes no harm at all!

I just got mine yesterday. The package was shipped with no racquet cover, no box, only black trash bag. Luckily the racquet is not damaged. The racquet looks nice, feel a bit heavy, has "Karbon Black" instead of "Karophite Black" and inaccurate spec (16x18 VS. 18x20) printed in the frame, and the paint is very matte.

Hmm, well, they are very very fast on dispatching the rackets though. I ordered a 4:th frame from them last week. I went online to their site, made the order and paid, got a confirmation mail 1 hour later and dispatch mail with tracking 3 hours later. On Friday i got a note in my mail (normal, not e-mail) that the parcel was at the post office. 2 days from UK to Sweden is very good IMO.

Only downside is that they ship it in a black plastic bag when the frame has no cover. The risk of damage is severe..

@ Hankenstein

I am going to try out some rackets when I get home. Maybe I will order some PSC 6.1.

I confirmed with "Rafa" about blogging on his site. Will get info about how soon. I am really looking forward for it.

Just received mine last night. Can't wait to string em up and hit with them. Unlike Supp's mine both say they are 18x20.

Someone should introduce them to the concept of a cardboard box... or at the very least bubble wrap.

Mine had a consideral amount of bubble wrap and protective paper around the frames. It was also wrapped in another layer of plaster inside the black "trash" bag.

Not only there is no bubble wrap -I 0rdered from them in the past but I called them before I place my order to tell them to pick one stick at least 11pts headlight as I knew from a member here that they can weigh and measure the balance before they dispatch. I had given them my email and emailed them so that they have it written as well. I also asked them to send the racquets to my home address and not to the billing address... I had placed at least 3 orders with them in the past...
They dispatched the racquets before they read my email... so the racquet was not weighed or balance measured...
They owe me a K Factor hoodie from last years order and no word about that...
and they sent the racquet to the billing address...

Not very consistent... are they?! :)

Not to bring up another "OH NO, my racquet's scratched!" type thread, but I did find this on the inside beam after I opened it up. Mind you this pic was taken 10 minutes outside of the trash bag and its never been used...

Perhaps I am just anal but the scratch in the middle of the 23 under racquet's tension probably shouldn't be there.

Dropped off the racquets a few days ago to be strung. As soon as I handed them to the pro he had a curious look on his face. He began swing one of them around and looked at me said, "this feels much heavier than it should."

I told him what I thought was the racquet, a pj of the 6.1 classic. He had never heard of Wilson doing this and immediatly weighed them...one was 12.36oz, the other 12.35oz. Of course the label says it should be 11.7. He then went into the back a grabbed a 6.1 Classic, weighed it and saw they were pretty similar.

Long story short...at first he thought they were fakes....very good ones but fakes none the less. However since the weights are consistant AND heavier he is beginning to believe that its simply a paint job. My stringer has put in a call to his contacts at Wilson to get the real story behind it but the mystery behind it all (at least for him) seemed pretty interesting.

c'mon men, let's get the flex rating.
because the OP said these feel 10 pts flexier than k95s, and that can't be the case if these are PSCs.
if it's anywhere near 70-72, then they are really PSCs.

The tennis expert from the store told me that the Classic feel is a flexier frame than the ordinary K Six One 95 while the Pro Player Stock frame is stiffer...
I have it in my hands and the matte finish makes it look like a true beauty. I was looking for a matte K 95... tomorrow I am going to get it strung. I have Pacific Classic Gut 17g. I am gonna string it @ 57lbs. I usually string my racquets @ 53 when it comes to poly or other non-natural gut strings...

I just measured the unstrung balance. It is 30.5cm which means 12 pts headlight like a K 95 should be...
Tomorrow morning I will weigh it...

ac3111

I weighed the racquet... the scale showed 345 grams but the scales from the stores show always figures dividable with 5 and I tend to believe that if the racquet is 347 it will show 345. If it is 348 it will show 350...
345 unstrung weight is definitely not a K 95 18x20... of course have in mind that it has leather grip... if leather frip is about 100 grams heavier than synthetic grip then the weight comes down to 335-337...mmmm sounds more like a K 95 now...

After all the ul store told me it's a K95 just that the Classic one if flexier while the Pro Stock Tour Player frame is stiffer...

I wouldn't expect the people on the phone to have a clue, its a big mail order store selling sell all sorts of sports stuff. I saw a picture of a 6.0 95 painted as an ncode and it said "ORIGINAL" on the throat so I expect the classic is just that, a classic. My guess is the pro tour players are on spec k95's (basically the good ones) because I have 4 and they are all exactly the same weight/balance, unheard of for wilson :)

Yeah, dead on. Also hands down the best serving stick ever made.

The pro tour player are only available in gripsize 2 and they have a black synthetic grip if I am not wrong.
Could you weigh them and measure the balance as to have a reference point to compare with the Classic?

My order was confirmed 10 days ago now but there's still no sign of the racket. This is most disappointing. Has anyone else had this problem with this retailer?

That's very unusual, I've been ordering from that site for years, it's one of the UK's biggest sites and it's very, very successful. Never had a single problem with them before.

I got an email from them today (after I emailed customer service) and they've apologised for the delay and say that they'll dispatch it ASAP.

Why they haven't dispatched it yet, I have no idea but knowing that the item hasn't been lost in the post and that no-one from Royal Mail has decided to take it out for a sneaky hit has reassured me. I'm now excited once again for the arrival of the racket.

The balance point and the unstrung weight seems to be like the ordinary K 95... if you replace the leather grip with a synthetic one the unstrung weight becomes similar to a K 95...

i have an 18x20 psc 6.1 aka the euro ed.
so this stick is the same thing with k factor pj?

Would be great if someone could measure the stiffness of this stick..

edit: just wanted to say, the 16x18 psc6.1 is like one of my all time favs :)

No, this is the weight difference with Leather and Synthetic grip

I now removed the calfskin grip and replaced it with a Babolat Syntec grip replacement grip.

Weight strung with a 1,25 Cyber Power string and a Wilson calfskin grip: 363,9 grams

Weight strung with a 1,25 Cyber Power string and a Babolat Syntec Grip: 363,5 grams

This Wilson calfskin grip is extremely thin!!

In mine the unstrung weight with Wilson leather grip is 345. Difficult to believe that the Wilson true grip weighs the same...
But it's true that the wilson leather grip is thin because the L3 looks like L2,5...

Racquet is extremely heavy. True to Wilson PS form, its very stable. You can serve lasers with this club.
