Review of the Wilson Ksix One 95 18*20 CLASSIC paintjob

i was wondering...
what would make a player pick the classic 6.1 over the latter editions like k95, n95, hps95, blx95?

what would make the classic superior to the 6.1 lineup that followed it?

is the classic superior in any one area?

Good news everyone! I got a slip through the letter box today saying that I was out when a package too large for the letterbox was supposed to be delivered. I haven't ordered anything else so it's pretty safe to assume that it's the racket. I'll probably end up picking it up tomorrow. I think I'm going to be busy for the rest of the week but I have high hopes for being able to string it up and play over the weekend.

EDIT: I've got the "[K]95" stretched pro-stock frame with me now. It appears to have a very similar paintjob to the standard length Classic frame - it's a matte [K]95 PJ with classic on the throat. The string pattern is marked correctly on the other side of the throat as 18x20. On the outside of the hoop, below the PWS, there is text that reads "[K]arbon black" and "More control". I love the matte finish of the paintjob but there are some places on the racket that look as though they have been paintjobbed - I'll point these out when I take photos and write a review.

I've applied a Gamma Supreme overgrip to the leather original grip already and I intend to string it with full MSV Focus Hex 1.10. I'll hopefully be able to get some hitting and some kind of review up over the weekend.

If anybody has a few of these painted 6.1 frames and wants to trade, I have a few PT57e frames for a possible trade.
Here's the catch, I would need 4 of these.

3/8s grips/

To clarify:
I've for got PT57E frames with the MG Prestige paint. 1 lightly used and 3 brand new ones.

Hey guys / gals.. I found these on the website and ordered a couple out of interests sake.

I then found this thread which is quite interesting.. I am just wondering if anyone else has a comment to make on the sweetspot size.. 'as small as the PC600' is a pretty tiny sweetspot.. especially for a 95..

is this a fair description? how would it compare to say a head prestige 98'' headsize ot PT630 for example..

Have to revise my first post a bit.. The Sweetspot is bigger then the PSC600.

Must have been that i hit some off center shots the first time i used the racket.

good to know... i moved away from the pc600 as it was just too unforgiving and small head... never went futher then the 98 of head prestige, Rad TT though so if its anything like that I think I will be fine..

So.. rackets turned up this morning.. just weighed them...

the lightest is 344 grams

the heaviest 348 grams

That is quite a difference and the are pretty heavy !! I think the difference would be a couple of g's when i take the plastic off the wrappers and stuff.

Now I am going to hit tonight and will give a proper review but just want to say this.. I have just hit a few volleys on the volley wall at the club I am at.. The feel is rock solid and I am very impressed. The sweetspot is not small in comparison to other 95's I have used (Head RAD TT, Prestige & Prince Rebel 95) Looking forward to later :)

I have the racquet 2 weeks but had only a set of natural gut so I had to wait until things get dry before I get it strung...
In a few minutes I am going to pick it up and try it on the tennis court...
just wanted to share with you that sacred moment...

Okay so I hit for 2 hours last night and 90 mins tonight..

I really like this racket.. the feel is solid and the sweetspot is sweeeeet and ample. Volleys are the most solid of any racket I have used. I Have a bit of a problem with my shoulder so am not serving flat out but the serves were accurate. The prince rebel puts more work / spin on the ball but this is more precise.

One thing I noticed is that sometimes on a full swing (good contact) the racket seems low powered. I like this. But then some times when I am just trying to bunt or push the ball back when i am stretched it seems really powerful.

Words of warning though.. I bought 3 of these rackets the heaviest is 348 & lowest is 344.. Unstrung

That means that with my 1.20 silverstring, overgrip & 2 gram dampener the total weight is 372 grams... This is a heavy racket. I normally use a Head TT which is 362 g's or more recently a 368 gram prince rebel so am use to weighty sticks ...

BUT

I was late several times on a lot of shots and whipping this round like i can my prince just is not happening.. I am sure in time i will adjust, I am 6ft 1 (around 185cm) and 95kg.. be sure you can handle this type of weight before buying..

Overall i like that racket but it will be a week or so before i decide if i am going to switch permanently..

Just FYI I have ordered some of the TEAM pro stock and will let you know what they are like when the get here tomorrow..

Hi guys,

I got 5 of these stick some days ago, and I'll use them in the next days..

The weight is the following:
1 is 342
2 of them 346
2 of them 348

Plastic still on handle, so -plastic +strings 18/20 +over +dump is gonna be heavy...might go to 365-370, hoping no more than 370

I'll give them a shot, hopfully will be able to swift to wilson.

I play normally on I.Prestige or PT57a

I think this frame is stiffer then what it feels like so the stiffness rating should not scare anyone not to test it.

I have elbow-problems with the normal K6.1 95 and no elbow problem at all with the 6.1 95 classic.

yeah.. i am not sure they have an rdc because i called and asked if they could send me the lightest ones they could find and the told me they did not have a machine to weigh them ..

Could anyone email me where to buy this racquet? the info of the store?
You can email me to the address in my profile.

I really need this flexer one than my retail Ksix-one 95.

Many thanks in advance.

So, is there a constant opinion as to what this racquet it? After reading through pages of posts, it appears we have similar weight to that of the PSC 6.1. Is that really our only clue? And the fact that is says CLASSIC on the frame....

Cheers!

This racket is an absolute club.. mine is strug with weisscannon silverstring and has a dampener and OG and it is 374.4 grams

I am trying to find a way to bring the wait down a bit (10GRAMS) or so.. the feel is brilliant and the ball definitelt stays hit but it is just a bit heavy right now..

suggestions..

They are both classics, from what I can tell, but one has a nice matt finish and a decent PJ. The other has a really rough finish, poor pj, lots of chips, generally tatty. May have been unlucky, but not fussed enough to try again.

wow talking about fast delivery:shock:
ordered some stuff from them friday and got it this morning (monday):)

still no comparrison with the classic?

Bought three of these (classics) last week (L4) and wow what a racket! I have strung them up with Big Banger Ace at 54 lbs and put a gamma supreme overgrip on them All three weigh in at 369g all in.

Hit with them for the first time last night and they are beautiful! Lovely feel and very solid. Used to use these back in the early 90s before switching to Head. I don't know why I ever changed. These are lovely - and this is coming from someone who has been using iPrestige mids for the best part of last 9 years.

Just getting used to the slightly different grip shape, but I had absolutely no arm issues last night. I may have strung them a little too loose as I was getting a lot more power than I expected, but I can fix that.

Just logged on to get a 4th but they seem to have sold out of these now!

Awesome frames. Why can't companies make them like this for the rest of us normally and not make us have to pounce on these kind of sales!

so you think its the real 6.1 classic?

Definitely. Definitely has the same solid feel as my original classics.

Also worth mentioning is that when I worked for Bow brand at Wimbledon a couple of years ago (not as a stringer even though I do string, but in a more admin/runner capacity) I was stenciling up one of Tsonga's rackets which was the exact same PJ. I noticed that it said classic on the inside of the throat and asked why it had that instead of the usual guff Wilson put on the retail ones. I was told by several of the stringers that this meant that it was pro staff classic 6.1 under the paint. Many of the wilson players had these - for example, Bjorkman (stretch), Nestor, etc.

I was familar with the Head codes (PT 57, etc) being a Head user myself at the time, and these guys said it was the same thing but in "wilson speak" as it were. Slightly less cryptic I thought at the time ;)
