Revisiting the Head Liquidmetal Radical MP

Restrung one of my LM Radical MP with Tf xone biphase 16 gauge crosses at and Sigma poly plasma pro 17 gauge mains at 52 lbs. Works wonders, mass plow and cups the ball for imparting spin and direction like a monster.. Leaded at 3 and 9 and leather grip with an overgrip. Bliss

used to use a similar set up. Also liked pro red code full bed

I finally hit with Head LMRT today. With a set of grommet, new full bed poly string at 50 pounds, leather grip with an overgrip, these brought the static weight to 360g.

If there is one word to describe LMRT, it will be confidence. The feel is crisp, solid, without any off center discomfort that many inherited. Pro Staff 95 original by comparison harsh.

The heft of LMRT forces me to tidy up my strokes. Still, it's not a powerful stick. I credited it's playability to the racket weight distribution. The weight distribution is just right. In contrast to Japan made Bridgestone X-Blade 330g, buying on specs, Solinco Hyper G at 52 pounds, unplayable.

For now, Head LMRT is my best playing stick. How can I tell? Can't wait to go to the court with Head LMRT. Prokennex Ki5 340g, Head Prestige MP 330g and Prince Response 97 350g come at second place. My search had come to an end this February.

I had about 8 in rotation over the last 18 months and all the MIAs were solid and feel solid while 1 amongst the 3 that were made in China had a tinny somewhat harsher feel and sound to it. Nothing outrageous a 5 % deviation at most imo.

I used to use them in college and when head started warranty replacing the old ones with the black trap door caps I was please with the fact it wasn’t the cheap cardboard piece but the frames felt slightly different… it was then my quest for something else began which has now led me right back to the start

Is there any difference in the layup of the LM Radical Tour to the LM Radical MP or is it just the weight?
not sure. I have one tour of which the unstrung SW is lower than my Czech MP. My china mp’s have a slightly lower swingweight than the tour. It’s not only weight in the handle because 25 grams or so in the handle would make the MP more head light than the tour. I think the tours throat weight is also heavier.

Tried a few string set ups today testing the new lynx touch

1) LT mains / hawk rough crosses
2) Lynx Tour mains / Lynx Touch cross
3) my standard Lynx Tour mans / hawk rough cross

Can see lynx touch being a string a lot of people like. Good pocketing, decent pop. Lacks in spin but good all around. No word on durability but just not as good as set up 3 in my opinions

I tried a couple of these, both Austrian and Chinese, and I want to like them, but I dont. Feel is cheap, especially outside tiny sweetspot. Especially Chinese ones. Nothing like rich feel of early Radicals. Just my opinion...

Restrung one of my LMs last night 17 gauge signum poly plasma pro mains and 16 gauge VS gut crosses at 52 lbs... Took it to the courts today, sunny hot but windy conditions. Found really good dwell time and redirecting returns of serve and going DTL felt quite good.... Nice combo.

I find that the DTL forehands with the LM Rad MP are out of this world. If my opponent is not covering the shot... it's just a little faster racquet head speed and the ball just flies... good night!!! As the commentator from Tennis TV likes to say... that got the frozen rope treatment.

Feel that I also feel a lot more confident rolling shorter angle ground strokes which is a huge benefit to pull someone off the court

Did you already play with the LM rad tour?

Agree, for me redirecting my 2handed backhand dth and the occasional onehanded flat stab when drawn wide of the backhand is greatly rewarded by my LM rad mp.lead and silicone does it fair share tbh.

Thanks for the enquiry...

Was just about to post that when mine arrived the grommets were not in great shape at the head guard (rookie mistake from me as I wanted to grab the racquets and didn't ask for more pictures in order to not be difficult)... so I had to procure new grommets at a hefty markup (made someone in Atlanta a very happy seller I'm sure).

Now I have 6 new ribbed LM Rad MP grommet sets... so I am going to install them on one of the LM Rad Tour MPs, put a base grip and overgrips on, string it up, and then hit the courts in due course. I am on the east coast of Australia, and we have had huge flooding and rain pounding the land, so there has not been that much chance to play tennis in the last few weeks. Considering this, I may hold off stringing until it has cleared up a bit (many areas were under meters of water... I feel for all the people that were severely affected by this disaster/tragedy, our house/property is OK... but many have not been so lucky).

I am definitely going a bit crazy not being able to play as much and itching to string a whole bunch of racquets (including the mighty LM Rad Tour). I will let everyone know when it has happened. The thinner gauge strings are primed and ready, as are the stringing machine and racquets. I've been doing strengthening exercises and such... just to not lose my mind.

I understand and concur... although I have a OHBH. No wonder Djokovic is able to do those stab BHs at full stretch, it's like this type of racquet is made for it.

I often change my BH grip to more towards the Continental grip when on the run and if the ball is out wide and lower-to-the-ground (more skidding/ staying low)... and then swing out Wawrinka-style to completely surprise my opponent who is expecting a shorter/slower/weaker shot... and instead receives a full-blooded scorching cross-court BH. It worked so well... I used to do it for fun just to get in the head of my opponent.

This is a great racquet with massive potential and upside. Can't wait to try my LM Rad Tour MP. I hope it doesn't get overhyped in my head before I even get a hit.

No such thing as too much hype lol

The first racquet I ever purchased was a Head Liquidmetal 4. Seeing this thread took me back to when I was shopping back then. I remember wanting the Radical but was just starting out with tennis so I didn’t think my game was good enough to play with it at the time.

So after seeing this thread, I went looking and was able to find one in great shape. I’m looking forward to playing with it and seeing how it compares to the current frames on the market. I’ve owned or demoed 20+ frames over the past few years, but now that I think about it I think the Blade CV may be the only other 18x20 I’ve ever hit with.

I totally want to go play tennis every time I see the LM Radical photos in this thread. Just such a phenomenal racquet. I played with it from release until two years ago, where I switched to the Gravity Pro. It was always amazing how much power you could transfer to the ball when everything lined up. Totally felt like turning thing up to 11:)

Question: does someone know if a) microgel radical MP grommets fit the liquidmetal radical mold (because of the ridges) and b) if those microgel grommets are significant lighter than the liquidmetal grommets? If yes and yes it could be a nice experiment to see whether one (me : ) can reduce the weight of the liquidmetal radical tour a bit..

@StanAO14 @Kal-El 34 the LM Radical Tour MP has had it's grommets changed, new Babolat Synthetic grip wrapped, been wiped down and cleaned, and is ready and waiting for the stringing. Looks great!!!

Now I just need to get the green light from my physio that I can play tennis again... and we'll be off on a new adventure. Can't wait... I've been so antsy.

It's just staring at me, whilst leaning on the wall next to the tennis bag, saying "Come on... string me up... you can do it... don't be such a %$@@&... WHAT are you WAITING FOR?"

If it's that aggressive when it hits the ball... we'll be having a grand time. ;) :giggle:

even the chinese versions that were prestrung played great. anyone that wanted a racquet under 100$ and was new to tennis i would sell them that right off the wall.

I just joined the club!

I got a good condition one off the auction site; I think it is a chinese-made one (has the plain black butt cap with grey Head logo on it).

I weighed it and it is 288 gm unstrung with a synthetic grip on it. I don't understand why it is so under-spec?

Both me and the seller confused it for grip size then. I got two in 4 1/2 and two in 4 3/8 but weirdly I barely feel any difference between them so I can live with it :)
I have no clue where they were made though.

I put on leather grips and balanced them out with some lead tape. Only had the chance to hit twice and so far I really enjoy them!

I love the ice cream, pizza, and fries lol

One of my LM Radical Tour MPs has been strung up with Volkl Cyclone 1.15mm in the Mains and a Klip Tournament XL (Syn Gut - 1.20mm) in the crosses @ 48M/48C on my drop-weight machine.

The static weight is 342g (strung) with an overgrip and a No.64 rubber band dampener. Now I just need to go and have a hit.

How much lead?

How much lead?

5 grams but too much I feel, took it all out, the swingweight was not sustainable for a full match for me so I will try without this week.
I was trying to match up the spec to my leaded up CX200LS but I must have the wrong swingweight number for that one.

I see, playing in hot fast conditions or slower?
