Revived old Bose with bluetooth

ByeByePoly

G.O.A.T.
I had basically quit listening to music other than in the car ... but it seems more music and less news would be wise now.

I have an old Bose Acoustic Wave System (tower ... not radio) and bought a $25 Bluetooth adapter on Amazon and good to go playing music from my iPhone. For now, using Amazon Music app included with Prime Membership, and wife's Sirius XM app. I most likely will mainly just listen to streamed stations ... if I was looking for full albums would upgrade to Amazon Music Unlimited and look into other services like Spotify. We will see.

For anyone interested in doing the same with old speakers ... this was the BT adapter I used ... setup was simple. Bose has a $150 adapter that would probably be worth it if you had multiple Bose products (maybe speakers in multiple rooms), but this is all I needed.

No disrespect intended but a 10+ technology that is in audio electronics based is just that, old and obsolete! It like watch a 10+ year old TV 1080p and now with new standards like HDR, Dobly whatever and 3rd generation 4K screen technology, smart tv improvements.

New music has much denser audio tracks that cannot be outputed in a 10 year old electronics because the music recording quality did not exist back the in the music studios.

It is good that the bluetooth adopter provides for your devices to play on the Bose Acoustic Wave System and will give you much enjoyment now! :)

How did we ever suffer through that old tv and music ... we were like cavemen.

It call mobile devices! Everything is online, streaming worldwide!

The Bose is sounding great ... more than adequate for my purposes, but let's discuss what is obsolete in this setup, if anything. I'm no audiophile ... so anyone that is jump in and educate.

My setup:

home wifi streaming Amazon or XM to iPhone -> Bluetooth iPhone to BT adapter -> Bose

Couple of comments:

- I assume nothing beats a good set of headphones, so comparing "anything speakers" is probably beside the point of "what's best"
- my wifi streaming music to iPhone is current tech (not obsolete)
- Bluetooth iPhone to BT adapter current tech (not obsolete, adapter codec could matter)
- BT adapter to Bose ... Bose only being used as a speaker, so this is the only place you could call it obsolete ... say for example the Bose speaker is obsolete compared to one of those $30 Amazon Echo speakers ... hehehe ... not likely.

So just based on what I have read, if you are going to stream music involving Bluetooth and your goal is best sound ... the two most important items would be 1) high end BT headset 2) Bluetooth adapter with best codec (think it's called aptX). I have a BT transmitter hooked up to my TV that allows two Bluetooth headsets to be connected at same time with aptX codec (no delay).

So in my setup, it seems "obsolete" could only apply to BT adapter codec and choice of speaker.

Confusing ... but not nearly as confusing as my tv digital optical splitter with one end to sound bar and other end to BT transmitter. BTW ... codec seems to apply to both the transmission mode and receiving mode on my tv BT device (I only use it as a transmitter).

Audio quality is subjective and these things are completely a personal issue to the user. If you are happy, I am happy!

I am more sensitive to picture quality than sound. For example, 4K pic quality was way more important to me than sound. I have a soundbar, but we always use headsets if we are watching a movie or series. When I watch a series with my wife, we mute the soundbar and we both use BT headsets. I was aware HDMI arc tv->soundbar connections offer premium audio options that digital optical does not, but both of us using a BT headset at the same time without soundbar was much more important to us. There should have been a way with HDMI arc but I never figured out a way.

I've noticed tv picture quality isn't always about the specs, particularly since we don't watch everything in 4k. I've watched a lot of hours on a 2012 Sony 50" EX645 (https://www.cnet.com/reviews/sony-kdl-50ex645-review/ ) and the pictures quality is fantastic imo.

I use bluetooth to play music through my soundbar system!

Old Bose (Amar Bose) passed away. Unfortunately, so did his son. I don't think BT lets you communicate with the other world.

You made me learn about Amar ... good story. I did not remember when my dad had bought the Bose ... according to following article it was made between 1984 and 1992. LOL ... sucker is 30ish years old. He also had the clock radio one, which showed up in 1993.

According to this article ... don't sell Mr Short short. 8-B

Did you know that turning off Bluetooth from the control panel on an iPhone only turns it off until the next day? I did not ... I have not used BT on my iPhone until now. To turn Bluetooth off until next use ... either turn off BT from settings OR tell Siri to turn it off.

Why is this related to my new miraculous $25 BT adapter you ask. Turns out the little box likes to announce itself (robust o_O tone) when it connects. Phone BT wakes up next day ... little box gives a tone shoutout "good morning ... been waiting for you". Not anymore ... BT will wake up on my iPhone when I decide ... the phone and little box work for me ... not other way around.
